Abstract

The effect of the mechanical properties and dimensional stability of wool fabric on the seam pucker has been studied. Experimentally measured seam pucker values were compared with the Kawabata seam pucker prediction equation with the mechanical properties of fabric as variables. The experimental values showed reasonably high relationships with the predicted values of the Kawabata equation. The most significant factor in predicting the seam pucker was the bending rigidity of the fabric. Fabrics with the high bending rigidity had the tendency of less puckerd seam. The severe seam puckers occurred with the fabrics with high hygral expansion. Fabrics with high hygral expansion can be sewn under high humidity environment in order to reduce the seam pucker arising from the hygral expansion.
