Abstract
High molecular weumber-average degree of polymerization, p.: 4, 5003 atactic poly(vinyl alcohol)(PVA) was synthesized and the solution in dimethyl sulfxide was cast into films. The prepared film was then one-step zone-drawn at high temperatures under various zone drawing conditions. Draw ratio dependence on the molecular weight, the drawing stress, and the drawing temperature was examined and compared with that of film cast firm commercial atactic PVA(Pn: 1, 500). The draw ratio increased with the increase of the above factors. The maximum draw ratio of 14 was obtained for the PVA film with Pn of 4, 500 by the zone drawing at 23$0^{\circ}C$. The zonetrawn PVA Slm had the maximum tensile strength of 0.910pa1 the maximum tensile modulus of 8.450pa, the crystal orientation index of 0.941 the birefingence of 0.0023, the crystal melting temperature of 239$^{\circ}C$. The fibrillar structure of the highly drawn PVA films was confirmed by the polarizing microscopy.
