Abstract

Relatively high molecular weigh polyhydroxyether(PHE) polymers have been prepared by the interfacial poly-merization of bisphenol A and epichlorohydrin in an aqueous-organic biphasic system. Interfacial synthesis was forind to be an effective method to prepare higher molecular weight Polymer under mild reaction conditions. It has been revealed that the solvating power of the solvent in organic phase is an important factor affecting the molecular weight of PHE in interfacial synthesis. PHE's thus prepared had different values of molecular weight depending on the solubility of the organic phase; the higher the solubility, the higher the molecular weight.
