Abstract
The increase of the spindle speed for higher productivity has been limited by the spinning tension and by the fiction between the traveller and the ring. Rotating ring is one of the ways to be able to solve the Problem. In this study, we measured the motions of the rotating ring in order to obtain the possibility to increase the spindle speed. The results of this study, using a experimental model of rotating ring, revealed: 1) The rotating ring showed the precessional motion when the ring rotated; 2) The speed of rotating ring increased gradually from the initial standstill and fluctuations of ring occurred when the rotational speed of the ring became the half of that of the traveller, i.e., rotating ring speed 3,900 r.p.m. in the case of the traveller speed 7,800 r.p.m.; 3) The irregular vibration of rotating ring commenced at 110 of the traveller rotational speed. The amplitude of vibration was about 2mm at that time.
