Abstract

Three types of nonwoven fabrics(Tyvek, Sontara and Kimlon) were used as test specimens. By pad-cure method, each of the specimen was treated with organic silicon quaternary ammonium salts for antimicrobial finish, and dual functional fnish was carried out using organic silicon quaternary ammonium salts, followed by the treatment of fluorocarbon compound. The results obtained fiom this study were as follows. 1) The antimicrobial and dual functional finished specimens showed excellent antimicrobial activity. 2) The dual functional finished Sontara and Kimlon showed much less amount of pesticide penetration compared with untreated ones. Tyvek showed little amount of prsticine genetraction regardless of Snish. 3) After laundering, the amount of pesticide residue in the dual finished Sontara was less than that in Tyvek and in Kimlon. 4) The antimicrobial and dual finish improved water and oil repellency as well as water resistance of Sontara and Kimlon. Water vapour and air permeabilities of specimens were decreased by dual functional Snish. 5) Tyvek showed durability in performance properties after repeated launderings. Dual functional fuished Kimlon showed better durability in water penetration than dual functional finished Sontara after repeated laundering.
