Abstract

최근 몇년전 부터 폐기물 처리와 관련하여 소각로에 대한 관심과 연구가 부쩍 늘어나고 있다. 이는 인구의 증가, 산업의 발전, 경제활동의 팽창 및 다양화 등에 의하여 폐기물의 질적 변화가 적정처리에도 영향을 미쳐 큰 문제로 대두되고 있고, 또한 폐기물의 단순 매립처리가 사후 관리에 여러가지의 어려움과 매립지 선정 자체에도 어려움이 따르고 있기 때문이기도 하다. 그러나 소각기술이 아직도 보완되어야 할 부분들이 많기 때문에 현재 가동중인 소각시설에도 많은 어려운 문제점이 발생하고 이들의 문제해결이 시급한 것이 현재의 현실이다. 심한 경우에는 폐기물 처리목적으로 많은 투자를 하여도 폐기물의 특성에 따른 적정 처리시설을 선정하지 않아 소각로 가동 시운전 단계에서도 중지하여야 하는 경우도 발생하고 있다. 반면 적은 투자로도 만족할 만한 처리효과를 내며 가동하는 경우도 있어 당초 계획단계 부터 신중을 기해야할 것이다. 소각로는 외부로 보기에는 거의 비슷하나 상세히 검토하면 소각로에 대한 선택적 기술이 필요하며 특히 소각로를 사용하는 목적이 무엇인지에 따라서 소각로의 선택이 달라질 수도 있다. 이러한 문제에 초점을 두어 현재의 소각기술을 분석하고 선정과정을 검토해 나가기로 한다.
