On the Damage Tolerant properties of Stitched Woven laminate Composites

Abstract

The woven laminate composites were stitched with different stitch spacing to investigate the changes in mechanical properties. The stitching of the woven laminate composite resulted in improved impact properties and its improvement has been increased with stitch density. The unstitched woven laminate composite tends to decrease in impact energy absorption capability drastically with the repeated impact. However, the stitched composite showed an increase in impact energy absorption capability with the repeated impact. The stitching also restricted the propagation of the unlimited delimitation of the woven laminate composite under impact so that the damage was well controlled within a restricted area.
