A Study on the Preparation of Low Foaming Scouring Agents for PET Fiber

Abstract

Low foaming scouring agents(PPFW) for PET fiber were prepared by blending of sulfonic acidamine condensate of polyowethylene(10) nonylphenyl ether(PSAC), polyoxyethylene(4) octadecylbenzylammonium chloride(POAC) and Sedlan FF-200(FF-200). As the results of several tests, PSAC/POAC/FF-200/water (5g/10g/25g/60g) mixture(PPFW-5) showed good cleaning power, penetrating ability and stability to alkali, and gave less problem in water pollution. Scouring effect of PPFW-5 was investigated by the change of percentage of exhaustion before and after scouring at various dyeing temperatures. The percentage of exhaustion of the unscoured PET fabric was 4.0% at 7$0^{\circ}C$, while that scoured with PPFW-5 was 1.0% at the same temperature, which proved PPFW-5 to be a good scouring agent. Furthermore, the foaming power of PPFW-5 measured by Ross and Miles method was 8mm foam height immediately after foaming, and that measured by Ross and Clark method was less than 300mm foam height at 3$0^{\circ}C$, and 21mm at 8$0^{\circ}C$ As a result, PPFW-5 proved a good low foaming scouring agent for PET fiber.
