Abstract

Poly(arylene etherketone) copolymers, modified by introducing kinks into the linking units of aromatic rings of poly(etheretherketone) were prepared and their properties were investigated. The copolymers were synthesized via nucleophilic substitution reaction of 4,4'-difluorobenzophenone with hydroquinone(HQ) and resorcinol as a second biol component. From the d spacing data, the benzophenone-resorcinol and benzophenone-HQ units in the copolymer were presumed to exist isomorphically for almost all the species. It was found from the values of activation energies and frequency factors in the thermal decompositions of copolymers that the thermal stabilities and rates of thermal decompositions were not related with the copolymer coposition. Avrami exponents, n, in the isothermal crystallization for the copolymers were about 3 for the first crystallization and 1.7∼2.5 for the second crystallization, and the crystallization mechanisms were estimated to be changed during the growth of the crystals.
