Abstract

The method to separate the acrylic acid(AA)/methacrylic acid(MA) copolymers which were grafted on PET was investigated. The PET-g-AA/MA was aminolized with monomethyl amine at 4$0^{\circ}C$ for 10 days to break the backbone of PET, followed by filtration, and the addition of concentrated HCl to the filtrate, by which the grafted copolymers were precipitated. After the grafted copolymers had been separated from the PET-g-AA/MA obtained from the various grafting feed ratio of AA and MA, the compositions of the copolymers were determined by the method of the analysis of FT-IR spectra. The results show that the grafted copolymers contain more AA unit than the feed composition of grafting. On the other hand, the copolymers copolymerized in solution have more MA unit than the fee.
