Abstract

Pet film which had been graft polymerized with acrylic acid(AA)/methacrylic acid(MA) was chelated with cerium(III). Cerium content in chelates of PET-g-AA/MA chelated under different conditions such as pH, concentration of Ce(III), chelating time and temperature was investigated to find out the main factors affecting the chelation. The thermal stability, the fastness to washing, and the frictional static electricity of Ce(III)-chelated PET-g-AA/MA were also studied. Ce content of the chelated PET-g-AA/MM was increased as increasing chelating temperature, Ce(III) concentration, and chelating time. But the pH of the chelating solution did not affect the chelation. Ce(III)-chelated PET-g-AA/MA film was decomposed at about 350$^{\circ}C$ and the binding between Ce(III) and carboxylic group was sufficiently stable to alkaline hydrolysis. The frictional static electricity of PET-g-AA/MA, chelated with small amount of cerium, was decreased distinctly.
