Abstract

For the purpose of manufacturing water repellents of acrylic copolymer, quaternized stearylmetacrylate-2-diethylaminoethylmethacrylate (SDMAC) as a mother resin and quaternized 1-behenoylaminoethy1-2-docosyl imidazoline (BADIC) to increase the softening effect and the water repellency were treated by blending waxes and their emulsifier in various proportions to give water repellent PPSBC. After treatment of PPSBC with or without resin to nylon fabrics water repellency, durability to repeated washing, tear strength and crease recovery were found to show better results. Durable softening water repellents PPSBC increased the stability to acid, alkali and other chemicals and decreased the influence to the color fastness to crocking of dyed textiles. The water repellency mechanism of nylon fabrics treated with PPSBC was discussed in detail and the structure of the nylon fabrics was observed with a optical microscope.
