Abstract

Anti-static finish of polyester fiber has been carried out by means of using hydrophilic polymers and grafting methods. Most of them, however, were neither durable to laundering not good in anti-static capability. The purpose of this work was to develope new anti-static finishing method by chelating grafted polyester with La(III) which was known to form the stable complex with carboxyl group and coordinate water. For this purpose, PET film which was grafted with monomer mixture of acrylic acid and methacrylic acid was chelated with La(III), and the chelated film was evaluated by testing the frictional static electricity, thermal analysis and resistance to laundering. The results showed that good resistance to laundering and anti-static capability were obtained by this newly developed anti-static finish.
