Dyeability of Poly(ethylene Terephthalate) Pretreated with Organic Solvent

The dyeabilities of poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) films pretreated with water and some organic solvents were investigated and discussed in terms of solubility parameter. The interactions between PET and organic solvents appeared to be more closely related with their component solubility parameter than the total solubility parameter. The dyeability of PET film pretreated with organic solvent was higher than that of the water-treated PET film. It was also suggested that retained solvent formed dye-rich layer on the surface of film to result in higher dyeability of solvent-retained PET film.
