Abstract

The Flammability and the mechanical properties of the flame-retardant-coulpounded PVC films were investigated by varying the type and the amount of fame-retardants such as Sb2O3, tricresyl phosphate(TCP), tris($\beta$-chloroethyl) phosphate [TCEP], tris(2,3-dichloropropyl) phosphate [TCPP], tris(2,3-dibromopropyl) phosphate [TBPP]. The results of flammability test indicated that the optimum amounts of flame-retardant, when compounded alone, were 5-10 Phr for Sb2O9, 10~20 Phr for TCP, 30-40 Phr for TCPP, above 20 phr for TBPP and far above 40 par for TCEP. When equal amount of the liquid flame-retardants were compounded, the flammability results turned out to be better in the order of TBPP, TCP, TCPP and TCEP. The mechanical tests generally indicated that, more than any other properties, the tear strength and elongation showed considerable changes, i.e., the former became higher and the latter smaller along with the increase of the amount of flame-retardants compounded.
