A Study on the Reaction of Silk Fibroin with Ethyleneglycoldiglycidyl Ether

Abstract

The addition reaction of ethyleneglycoldiglycidyl ether(EDGE) with silk fibroin was studied in water-ethyl alcohol mixed solution at 55∼75$^{\circ}C$. The weight gains was decreased with increasing alcohol volume fraction in mixed solution and increased with reaction temperature. Reaction rate equation was agreed with first order reaction for EDGE, and the rate constant and overall activation energy have been determined.
