Abstract

The constitution of genin A-a new triterpenoid isolated from the roots of Phytolacca americana L. has been shown to be 3-oxo-30-carbomethoxy-24-norolean-12-en-28-oic acid. This compound is not a genuine spogenin but an artifact produced during hydrolysis of the Phyolacca saponins.
