Abstract

Experimental results are presented for kinetic study on shrinkproofing of wool with sodium bichloroisocyanurate. By viewing the data, it is seen, for otherwise the same conditions, that the rate constant k(50$^{\circ}$C)>k(30$^{\circ}$C)>k(10$^{\circ}$C). And also shows, for otherwise the same condition, that k(pH 3.2)>k(pH 4.4)>k(pH 6.2), as expected. Apparent activation energies of reaction were 11.9~12.9 kcal/mole. The degrees of shrink resistance are improved by increasing concentration of sodium dichloroisoryanurate and decreasing pH value, on the contrary wool is more damaged. A role of sodium sulfate in the treating bath was investigated. The reaction was limited to outer part of wool and decreasing felting shrinkage by adding salt. By measuring directional frictional effect, it is confirmed that felting phenomenon is based on directional frictional effect as elucidated in felting theory.(Received April 10, 1971)
