The beginning of Web Services was aware of efficient technology for application integration, thus it was used to integrating the distributed enterprise applications or the applications between business partners. But, recently the usage of Web Services is spreaded out not only internet applications but also wireless network applications. The main reasons are that Web Services is the international standard of W3C, and Web Services is based on XML that has the neutralized characteristics. 초기의 웹서비스는 인터넷에 존재하는 응용들을 보다 효율적으로 통합할 수 있는 기술로 인식되어, 지리적으로 분산되어 있는 기업 시스템을 통합하기 위한 목적이나 서로 다른 기업 간의 시스템연동을 위한 목적으로 활용되기 시작하였다. 그러나, 최근에는 웹서비스의 적용이 크게 확산되면서 인터넷의 응용을 넘어 이동통신망 응용까지 확산되고 있는 추세이다. 이는 웹서비스가 아스키 기반의 XML 표준을 기반으로 하고 있어 플랫폼, 프로그래밍 언어, 통신망에 독립적인 특징을 갖으며, 또한 웹의 국제 표준화 기구인 W3C를 중심으로 개발된 표준 기술이기 때문이다. 현재 MS, IBM 등주요 IT 기업들은 이와 같은 웹서비스의 장점을 이용하여 유비쿼터스 환경에 존재하는 다양한 종류의 디바이스를 연동하기 위한 기술에 집중하고 있다. 본 논문에서는 유비쿼터스 환경에서 웹서비스를 적용하기 위해 고려해야 할 기술적 이슈들에 대해서 설명한다.
