A Study on the Impact of Artificial Intelligence Industry on Macroeconomy: Evidence from United States of America

  • Purpose - The artificial intelligence industry plays an increasingly significant role in stimulating the development of United States of America's economy. On account of this background, this paper attempts to explore the impact of artificial intelligence industry on United States of America's macroeconomy. Research design, data, and methodology - This paper mainly focuses on the impact of artificial intelligence industry on GDP, employment, real income, import, export and foreign direct investment. Furthermore, the Phillips-Perron test and Canonical cointegrating regression will be employed to examine the impact of artificial intelligence industry on United States of America's macroeconomy with a sample form 2010-Q1 to 2017-Q4. Results - Via the empirical analysis, the results reveal that the artificial intelligence industry has a positive effect on United States of America's GDP, employment, real income, export and foreign direct investment. Conversely, the artificial intelligence industry has a negative effect on United States of America's import. Conclusions - In summary, the impact of artificial intelligence industry on United States of America's macroeconomy is positive and significant in statistics. Therefore, the government of United States of America should put more input into artificial intelligence industry.

A Comparative Study on the Curriculum of Biology in High School of Korea and the United States (한국과 미국의 고등학교 생물과 교육과청에 대한 비교 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to make a comparative analysis of the educational bojective, organization, contents, teaching and evaluation of the biological curriculum in high school of Korea and the United States. The results are summarized as follows: 1. In case of the educational objectives, both Korea and the United States emphasize the importance of the process of inquiry, experimentation and observation. Particularily, great emphasis is placed upon the human centered curriculum by reinforcing the relationships between the nature and human being. 2. In regard to the educational organization, eleven credit units(Science I: 5 credits, Biology: 6 credits) is allocated in Korea, and ten credit unit, in the United States. Both of Korea and United Stats designate the biology as elective course. But the science I course is designated as required in Korea 3. This study have been analyzed the educational contents of the two countries within the framwork of the basic concepts and essential informations contained in the curriculum. Results of the analysis as follow: The educational contents have less quantity and lower level in Korea than in the United States. And interrelations among the other curricula are not well considered in the curriculum of Korea/ On the other hands, interrelations among the oter curricula are fully considered and the purpose for emphasizing the importance of the process of inquiry course is well considered in the United States. The themes are stressed on "Structure and Function" (34.5%), "Genetic continuty" (21.3%), "Diversity and Unit" (14.2%) and "Regulation and Homeostasis" (10.3%) in Korea, and in the United States "Structure and Function" (27.3%), "Diversity and Unity" (25.6%), "Genetic continuty" (17.9%) and "Organism and Environment" (9.3%). 4. Regarding the educational guidance, both of Korea and the United States emphasis the interrelation of the basic concepts and principles within the total framwork. Also observation and experimentation, safety education, interest of students, life dignity, pretection of nature, social biology are reguired being paid special attentions. 5. In case of evaluation, both of Korea and the United States are the same in all of methods of evaluation. But the United States is grest stressed on reading and writing.

The Color Comparison Expressed in Fashion Items of New Senior Generation between Korea and America (한국과 미국의 뉴시니어 패션 아이템에 나타난 색채 비교)

  • This study is aimed to examine color expressed in fashion items and color of new senior generation in America and Korea. For this study, the three brands were selected by country after examining new senior fashion brand in the United States and Korea. The results of this study are as follows. First, In the case of Korea, t-shirt, cardigan, jacket, coat, and pants were investigated in order. In the case of the United States, blouse, sleeveless t-shirt, skirt, and one piece dress were investigated in order. In other words, Korea is characterized the practical and comfort features, the United States is characterized the practical and feminine modernity. Second, in the case of color, Korea is characterized Bk, YR, R, PB, G and the United States is characterized W, Y, YG, B, BG. In the case of tone, Korea is characterized dark greyish tone, light greyish tone, strong tone, vivid tone, deep tone, and light tone. In the United States, greyish tone, dull tone, soft tone, pale tone, bright tone, and dark tone were used. In the case of color by tone, both Korea and the United States are characterized R, RP, and PB in gorgeous tone. In the case of light tone, both Korea and the United States are characterized Y. In the case of plain tone, Korea is characterized Y and the United States is characterized B and G. In the case of dark tone, Korea is characterized R, Y, G, B and the United States is characterized P, R, and B. The results of the study is expected to be provide as forecasting dates of design planning for the new senior generation.

Cross-Cultural Study on the Infant Rearing Practices in Young Mother-Grandmother Generations of Korea, Hong-Kong, and the United States (한국의 출생의례와 아기행사 풍속의 문화간, 세대간 비교 연구: 홍콩 및 미국의 할머니 세대와 어머니 세대를 중심으로)

  • This study investigated differences or similarities of infant rearing practices in Korea, Hong Kong and the United States and in young mothers and grandmothers generations. The silbjects were young mothers(YM) with babies from 2 to 2.5 years and their mothers or mothers-in-law(GM) in Korea(YM=118, GM=118), Hong Kong(YM= 126, GM=78) and the United States(YM= 105, GM= 105). The subjects answered questionnaires on infant rearing practices that were constructed by child study specialists in Korea, Hong Kong and the United States. Statistical analyses were by frequencies, percentages, and $\chi$$^2$ The results of this study were as follows. 1. Kum-Jut was used to announce giving birth to relatives and neighbors only in Korea. Mothers in Korea were more helped in their recovery by their mother or mother-in-law than their husband, but the opposite was the case in Hong Kong and the United States. Most Korean mothers ate special foods after giving birth, but mothers in Hong Kong and the United Slates didn't. Mothers in Korea were more likely to avoid contact with strangers for a given period of time than mothers in Hong Kong and the United States. The babies in Korea were more often named by grandparents than by parents, but most of the babies in Hong Kong and the United States were named by parents. The greater part of babies in Korea didn't have childhood names or nick names, but most babies in Hong Kong and the United States did. 2. Mothers in Korea were more likely to give a banquet, exercise Dol Jab le, share foods with neighbors, and take souvenir pictures on the baby's first birthday than mothers did in Hong Kong and the United States. Most mothers in Korea tended to think that their baby's fiyst birthday was more meaningful than the other birihdays, but most mothers in Hong Kong and the United States didn't. 3. Some differences between young mothers and grandmothers generations in infant rearing practices were found in each culture.

A Study on the Climacteric Symptoms and Emotion of Korean Women Living in the United States and Korea (미국과 한국에 거주하는 일부 한국 갱년기 여성의 갱년기 증상과 갱년기 감정에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to compare the climacteric symptoms and emotion of Korean women living in the United States and Korea. The 195 subjects consisted of 81 women who have lived for more than 10 years in the United States and 114 women who live in Korea. All the subjects were from 40 to 60 years of age. Data were collected by convenience sampling using a questionaire in the west and mid-west regions of the United States and in Kyungbuk province in Korea. The results of this study are as follows : 1. Both subjects in the United States and Korea showed the highest negative emotions according to the following ; in the 50-54 years of age group, divorced, less than high school graduation, lower income level and Protestant in religion. So we concluded that the cultural differences between the United States and Korea did not exert an important influence on the women's emotional tendency, but personal characteristics and background did. 2. Emotional tendency of Korean women from 40 to 60 years of age living in United States and Korea was slight negative (Korean-American ; $3.97{\pm}.94$, Korean ; $3.90{\pm}.71$) 3. The emotions of women living in the United States showed a significant difference according to the state of health(F=3.7726, p<.05).The emotions of women living in Korea showed a significant difference according to marrital status(F=6.4733, p<.05). 4. There were negative correlations between the number of climacteric symptoms and emotions.

The Level of Knowledge Required to Fulfill the Task of Fashion Design -A Cross-cultural Study between South Korea and the United States - (패션디자이너 직무수행을 위해 필요한 지식수준에 관한 연구 - 한국과 미국을 중심으로 -)

  • Employees overseas have a need to prepare according to the different environments and industrial structures between countries. Therefore, to investigate qualities for fashion designers to possess when they work abroad, especially in the United States, this study compared the level of knowledge required to fulfill the work of fashion design in both South Korea and the United States. Responses from workers who are engaged to fashion design from the representative online career information systems of two countries, 'Worknet' in South Korea and '$O^*Net$' in the United States, were used as data. Looking at the result derived from the analysis of this study, first by comparing various statistical indicators, results showed the difference between knowledge level required to fashion designer in South Korea and in the United States. Even with the same type of job, because environments and industrial structures of each country are dissimilar, a different level of knowledge will be required in order to perform their tasks. Second, fashion designers in both South Korea and the United States required a high level of knowledge in the 'fine arts', 'administration and management', 'production and processing', and 'design' to perform their duties as a fashion designer. As a result, both countries have similarities that fashion designers need to possess a high level of the knowledge in areas such as 'production of products' as well as 'sales of products'. Furthermore, human relationship field of knowledge such as 'counseling', 'psychology', and 'communication' appeared to be more necessary to fashion designers in South Korea than those in the United States. On the other hand, higher degree of knowledge of 'machines and tools', ' fine arts', and 'transportation' appeared to be more necessary to fashion designers in the United States than those in South Korea.

Comparison of Trends in Blood Pressure and the Prevalence of Obesity Among Korean and American Adolescents: A 12-Years Cross-sectional Study

  • Objectives: This study was conducted to explore recent trends in the prevalence of pediatric elevated blood pressure and hypertension (HTN) in Korea and the United States, applying the new HTN reference values for adolescents. Methods: This study analyzed 17 339 (8755 Korean and 8584 American) adolescents aged 10 to 17 who participated in the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey and the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, respectively, between 2005 and 2016. HTN was defined using percentile-based reference values for non-overweight adolescents from 7 nations, and obesity was defined by body mass index (BMI) based on country-specific growth charts. All analyses were stratified by sex and year-over-year changes were evaluated by calculating the p for trend. Results: Systolic blood pressure showed a statistically meaningful upward trend in Korean boys and girls, while diastolic blood pressure did not show any significant changes. Both systolic and diastolic blood pressure levels declined among United States boys and girls. The prevalence of elevated blood pressure and HTN remained similar in Korean adolescents, but declined in both sexes among United States adolescents. BMI increased in both sexes among Korean adolescents, although the overweight and obesity rates stayed the same. No significant trends were found in any obesity indices among United States adolescents. The prevalence of elevated blood pressure and HTN by obesity level was higher among Korean adolescents than among their United States peers in both sexes, and the gap became higher at more severe levels of obesity. Conclusions: Despite the strong correlation between obesity and HTN, recent trends in the prevalence of HTN and obesity among Korean and United States adolescents were strikingly different. Follow-up studies are necessary to determine why the prevalence of HTN was more than twice as high among Korean adolescents than among their United States counterparts.

A STUDY ON THE GROWTH OF PRIVATE SECURITY IN THE UNITED STATES (미국(美國) 민간경비의 성장요인 분석)

  • The purpose of this study is to explore the underlying causes of the development of private security in the United States. These include the increasing crime rates and fear of crime, the poor performance of public policing, the decentralization of political authority, the increase of mass private property, economic growth and increase of personal income, commodification of security, insurance companies' demand for tighter security and fear of litigation, and historical events such as World War I & II. Based on the findings of this study, it is suggested that no single factor would account for the growth of private security in the United States. In other words, the rapid growth of private security in the United States should be attributed to the interrelated influences of the factors given above. Finally, it might be the contribution of this study that the future development of private security in Korea would be guided by understanding the case of the United States because of the similarities of the developmental process in private security industry of two countries.

  • Korean Government has provided special support to Korean export industry during past 40 years. However, due to the agreement on UR and appearance of WTO, the Government can't provide most of the subsidies which were allowed before WTO era. Hence, export insurance system became more useful tool since it's one of the few allowed subsidies under WTO. This study tries to find the impacts of export insurance systems on the exports in Korea, the United States, and Japan. Firstly, this study surveyed the export insurance systems of Korea, the United States, and Japan. Then, using a regression analysis it analysed the effects of export insurance systems upon the exports in Korea, the United States, and Japan respectively. The period of data is from 1980 to 1999. The results of the regression analysis for export insurance showed significant and positive effects of both Korean and Japanese but the United States showed insignificant and positive upon the exports.

Entrepreneurship Education in the United States:Strengths and Opportunities for Growth

  • This paper explores the role of entrepreneurship education in a modern economy and how the government, academic, and nonprofit sectors in the United States have responded to this growing field. There are several sectors that play important roles in the entrepreneurship education landscape in the United States. Over the past decade, there has been increasing participation of Federal and state governments. This recent trend suggests the field may be increasing in maturity and legitimacy, showing promise for expanding the reach of entrepreneurship education programs. Programs sponsored by nonprofit organizations and private foundations complement government initiatives and display an effective means of leveraging knowledge and resources across the relevant sectors. Thus, new initiatives, whether initiated by government or academia, should learn from the successes of this sector as well as be carefully considered within the context of existent programs and services. Nonetheless, the potentially dynamic environment of the entrepreneurship education field in the United States offers a specific opportunity to leverage the experience in mentorship activities at the post-secondary education to address a possible gap in these activities at the secondary education level.
