  • The variable demand on the energy market, as well as the limited energy storage capabilities, requires a great flexibility in operating hydraulic turbines. But, present in Korea, the absence of testing laboratories and technical criteria for the performance test of small hydropower degrades the efficiency of the domestic hydropower machines, A performance guarantees for hydro turbines shall be contain, as a minimum, guarantees covering power, discharge and specific hydraulic energy, efficiency, maximum momentary overspeed and maximum momentary pressure and/or maximum steady-state runaway speed, as well as guarantees related to cavitation. Performance test are conducted by the test standard. Test codes based on extensive research data are written under the leadership of an IEC. Performance evaluation is carry out several test(performance test, cavitation test and runaway test). The paper presents the international turbine test laboratory and performance test standard.

  • This paper described improvement and operation of a 'Tail-Fan' anti-torque performance test system KARI (Korea Aerospace Research Institute) developed a 'Tail-Fan' anti-torque system of a helicopter and a performance test-rig to test the performance of the Tail-Fan. The test-rig was improved for full rotating test in 4300rpm(100%). Machinery and hydraulic parts ware changed to reduce vibration and to increase safety. To find the operation rotating speed for the performance test, vibration test were carried out rising accelerometers on tail gear box. The performance test conditions of the Tail-Fan to avoid a resonance were found from vibration test results. The Tail-Fan operation tests were performed safely frier to carry out performance test.

  • This paper described operation and vibration characteristics of a 'tail-fan' anti-torque performance test system. KARI (Korea Aerospace Research Institute) developed a 'tail-fan' anti-torque system of a helicopter and a performance test-rig to test the performance of the tail-fan. The performance test-rig consists of driving, supporting and rotating parts. In the process of the performance test, firstly, operation test of the test-rig were carried out to verify design specifications. Secondly, natural frequencies of fan blade and test-rig were measured respectively. Lastly, to find the operation rotating speed for the performance test, vibration test were carried out using accelerometers on tail gear box. The performance test conditions of the tail-fan to avoid a resonance were found from the fan-plot and vibration test results. The tail-fan performance tests were well done safely.

  • In this paper, we proposed the test equipment that can perform separate performance tests to mass-produce the Automatic Test Equipment. Until now, the performance test of the ATE has been performed after it has been assembled perfectly. It is possible to perform the performance test only when the external device manufacturing and setting of measurement resources and the internal wiring work have been completed. So we have been studying test equipment that separately tested the switching devices that played a key role in the performance of the ATE. To build the test equipment, we reviewed the circuit card assemblies that make up the switching devices. We designed a test equipment that satisfies the performance test and apply the completed test equipment to the actual production process to analyze whether it was effective in improving the time and workability of the performance test. The test equipment has the advantage that it can be used universally in the mass production process of ATE with the same type of switching device.

  • A performance test facility for turbopump inducer cavitation was developed and the inducer cavitation performance tests were performed. Major components of the performance test facility are driving unit, test section, piping, water tank, and data acquisition and control system. The maximum of testing capability of this facility are as follows: flow rate - 30kg/s; pressure - 13 bar; rotational speed 10,000rpm. This cavitation test facility is characterized by the booster pump installed at the outlet of the pump that extends the flow rate range, and by the pressure control system that makes the line pressure down to vapor pressure. The vacuum pump is used for removing the dissolved air in the water as well as the line pressure. Performance tests were carried out and preliminary data of test model inducer were obtained. The cavitation performance test and cavitation bubble flow visualization were also made. This facility is originally designed for turbopump inducer performance test and cavitation test. However it can be applied to the pump impeller performance test in the future with little modification.

  • The steam turbine efficiency is an important factor in power plant. Accurate evaluation of steam turbine performance is essential. However, it is not easy to evaluate the steam turbine performance due to its high temperature and high pressure circumstance. Therefore most steam turbine performance tests were conducted by air similarity test. This paper described a test program for air similarity test of steam turbine at Korea Aerospace Research Institute. A test facility has been designed and built to evaluate aerodynamic performance of turbines. The test facility consists of air supply system, single stage test section, power absorption system, instrumentation and auxiliary system. For evaluation of steam turbine performance, the test of single stage axial turbine air similarity performance was conducted and uncertainty analysis was performed.

  • Performance test is carried out in accordance with "performance test standard for Electrical Multiple Unit", noticed by Ministry of Construction & Transportation in 2000. The object of this standard is to ensure that vehicle is tested after completion and before entry into service. Performance test is classified by type test to be carried out for the first car and its components in order to verify their performance and by routine test to be carried out on the whole quantity in order to prove the performance of individual items. Scope of the test is divided by components, completed car, preliminary adjustment test and running test on main line. The paper introduces a testing procedure and an execution method of the performance test.

  • The performance of the railway bogie is classified into the stability and the steering performance. Testing for the bogie stability is conducted on the roller rig. But testing for the bogie steering performance on test facility is very difficult, so the testing for the vehicle curving performance is conducted on the real curve track. And it is desirable to test on the full scale test rig, but it caused many problems relating to test costs, test time. To overcome these problems, the small scale test rig is actively used in the field of bogie stability. Thus, in this paper, we have studied the scale track to test the bogie steering performance. For this, we designed the 1/5 scale test track equivalent to radius 200 curve and confirmed the validity of the testing for the bogie steering performance on the scale curve track through the testing using 1/5 scale bogie.

KARI(Korea Aerospace Research Institute) developed 'Tail-Fan' system as a kind of helicopter anti-torque system(ATS) and designed ATS performance test-rig for Tail-Fan system performance test. Test-rig consists of driving parts, supporting parts and rotating parts. For Tail-Fan system performance tests, firstly, test-rig operation tests were carried out for verification of design specifications. Secondly, natural frequencies of fan blade and test-rig were measured respectively. Lastly, to find the operation rotating speed for performance tests, vibration tests using accelerometers on tail gear box(TGB) were carried out. Through the fanplot and vibration test results, Tail-Fan performance test conditions to avoid a resonance were found and performance tests were well done safely.
