  • Recently, researches into ways of improving large vocabulary continuous speech recognition and speech synthesis are being carried out intensively as the field of speech information technology is progressing rapidly. In the field of speech recognition, developments of stochastic methods such as HMM require large amount of speech data for training, and also in the field of speech synthesis, recent practices show that synthesis of better quality can be produced by selecting and connecting only the variable size of speech data from the large amount of speech data. In this paper we design and discuss linguistic contents for speech copora for speech recognition and synthesis to be shared in common.

  • In this paper, a self-organizing fuzzy controller(SOFC) for the industrial robot manipulator with a actuator located at the base is studied A fuzzy login composed of linguistic conditional statements is employed by defining the relations of input-output variable of the controller, In the synthesis of a FLC, one of the most difficult problems is the determination of linguistic control rules from the human operators. To overcome this difficult SOFC is proposed for a hierarchical control structure consisting of basic level and high level that modify control rules. The proposed SOFC scheme is simple in structure, fast in computations and suitable for implementation of real-time control. Performance of the SOFC is illustrated by simulation and experimental results for robot with low joints.

  • Using a sole input variable simplifies the design process for the fuzzy logic controller(FLC). This is called single-input fuzzy logic controller(SFLC). However it is still deficient in the capability of adapting to the varying operating conditions. We here design a single-input adaptive fuzzy logic controller(AFLC) using a switching function of the sliding mode control. The AFLC can directly incorporate linguistic fuzzy control rules into the controller. Hence some parameters of the membership functions characterizing the linguistic terms of the fuzzy rules can be adjusted by an adaptive law. In the proposed AFLC center values of fuzzy sets are directly adjusted by a fuzzy logic system. We prove that 1) its closed-loop system is globally stable in the sense that all signals involved are bounded and 2)its tracking error converges to zero asymptotically. We perform computer simulation using a nonlinear plant.

  • In this paper, the author proposed FLVSC(Fuzzy Logic Variable Structure Controller), of which control rules are extracted from the concepts of VSC(Variable Structure Control). FLC(Fuzzy Logic Controller) based on linguistic rules has the advantages of not needing of some exact mathematical model for plant to be controlled. The proposed method has the characteristics which are viewed in conventional VSC, e.g. insensitivity to a class of disturbances, parameter variations and uncertainties in sliding mode. In addition, the method has the properties of FLC - noise rejection capability etc. The computer simulations have been carried out for a DC servo motor to show the usefulness of the proposed method and the effects of disturbances and parameter variations are considered.

  • This paper suggests a new fuzzy PID controller with variable parameters which improves the shortage of the fuzzy PID controller with fixed parameters suggested in [9]. The derivation procedure follows the general design procedure of the fuzzy logic controller, while the resultant control law is the form of the conventional PID controller. Therefore, the suggested controller has two advantages. One is that it has only four fuzzy linguistic rules and analytical form of control laws so that the real-time control system can be implemented based on low-price microprocessors. The other is that the PID control action can always be achieved with time-varying PID controller gains only by adjusting the input and output scalers at each sampling time.

  • This study is a preliminary investigation of the nature of discourse marker acquisition in Korean American speakers of English. Discourse markers are of interest because they are not an aspect of language taught through formal instruction either to native or non-native speakers. Therefore, discourse marker use serves as indirect evidence of face-to-face interaction with native speakers and an indicator of integration. In this light, the present study examines the presence of discourse markers in Korean Americans. The markers chosen for analysis were you know, like, and I mean. The data consist of spontaneous speech elicited from interviews. Sociolinguistic variables such as age, sex, and generation (i.e., $1^{st}$, 1.5, $2^{nd}$) were examined. Results show that there appears to be interaction between the variables and discourse marker use. While all speakers showed variable acquisition of markers, younger, female, and 1.5 generation speakers were found to use discourse markers more than other speakers. Although discourse marker use is optional and thus not a linguistic feature that must be necessarily acquired, it is clear that use is pervasive and acquired differentially by English speakers irrespective of whether they are native or not.

  • In this paper, it is presented a new technique to the design and real-time implementation of fuzzy control system based-on digital signal processors in order to improve the precision and robustness for system of industrial robot. Fuzzy control has emerged as one of the most active and fruitful areas for research in the applications of fuzzy set theory, especially in the real of industrial processes. In this thesis, a self-organizing fuzzy controller for the industrial robot manipulator with a actuator located at the base is studied. • One of the methods to simplify the design process for a fuzzy logic controller (FLC) is to reduce the number of variables representing the rule antecedent. This in turn decreases the number of control rules, membership functions, and scaling factors. For this purpose, we designed a single-input FLC that uses a sole fuzzy input variable. However, it is still deficient in the capability of adapting some varying operating conditions although it provides a simple method for the design of FLC's. We here design two simple-structured adaptive fuzzy logic controllers (SAFLC's) using the concept of the single-input FLC. Linguistic fuzzy control rules are directly incorporated into the controller by a fuzzy basis function. Thus some parameters of the membership functions characterizing the linguistic terms of the fuzzy control rules can be adjusted by an adaptive law. In our controllers, center values of fuzzy sets are directly adjusted by an adaptive law. Two SAFLC's are designed. One of them uses a Hurwitz error dynamics and the other a switching function of the sliding mode control (SMC). We also prove that 1) their closed-loop systems are globally stable in the sense that all signals involved are bounded and 2) their tracking errors converge to zero asymptotically. We perform computer simulations using a nonlinear plant.

  • This paper presents a methodology to be able to select an appropriate RP system that suits the end use of a part. Evaluation factors used in process selection include major attributes such as accuracy, roughness, strength, elongation, part cost and build time that greatly affect the performance of RP systems. Crisp values such as accuracy and surface roughness are obtained with a new test part developed. The test part is designed with conjoint analysis to reflect users' preference. The part cost and build time that have approximate ranges due to cost and many variable parameters are presented by linguistic values that can be described with triangular fuzzy numbers. Based on the evaluation values obtained, an appropriate RP process for a specific part application is selected by using the modified TOPSIS(Technique of Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution) method. It uses crisp data as well as linguistic variables, and each weight on the alternatives is assigned by using pair-wise comparison matrix. The ranking order helps the decision making of the selection of RP systems.
