Information Professionals Going Beyond the Needful User in Digital Humanities Project Collaboration

  • When information professionals deal with other disciplines in the course of digital humanities projects, they often assume that they are dealing with 'needful users' who have an 'information gap' to fill. This paper argues that the traditional view that information/knowledge is transferred from an information specialist donor to a domain specialist receiver is no longer appropriate in the digital humanities context, where the gap-and-search (or gap-and-filler) approach to information has given way to more direct, explorative engagement with information. The paper asks whether information science and the practising profession are ready for this paradigm shift and examines information science conservatism in two common collaboration scenarios, library support and digital development. It is shown that information science theory still assumes a traditional donor role in both scenarios. How information scientists deal with conservatism in practice is discussed in the example of the Prior project, in which the information science team exerted an ambiguous, hybrid approach with both conservative and non-conservative elements. Finally, two rather hypothetical answers are offered to the question of how information professionals should approach scholarly collaboration in the digital humanities context, where users have ceased to be supplicants. From a purely pragmatic perspective, information scientists need to shift their focus from information needs to research practices and the implications of these practices for digital information systems. More fundamentally, the emergence of digital humanities challenges information professionals to transform information systems designed for searching into digital objects that can be explored more freely by the digital humanities community.

보편적 학습 설계의 관점에서 초등학교 4학년 과학 디지털 교과서 분석 (Analysis of G4 Science Digital Textbook according to Universal Design for Learning)

  • Digital textbook project is one of government-driven project to improve education due to integrating technology. Digital textbook need to be universally designed to fit for each student. Recently, universal design for learning( UDL) gains great attention as one of promising approaches for the development of the digital textbook through giving various options and flexibility to all students. UDL has three main principles, first provide multiple means of representation, second provide multiple means of action and expression, third provide multiple means of engagement. The purpose of the study is to analyze fourth grade science textbook according to three UDL guidelines and suggest implications to improve an existing science textbook. The results indicated that fourth grade science digital textbook has been partly applied UDL guidelines like implementing multimedia and multi- mode contents, learning and communication tools, and motivation strategies. But options which students can choose according to their needs and styles are insufficient and tools for expression and communication need to enhance for helping each student to overcome his/her obstacles for learning and need to be more and elaborate to support learner-centered science digital textbook.

A Method to Identify How Librarians Adopt a Technology Innovation, CBAM(Concern Based Adoption Model): Focusing on School Librarians' Concern about Digital Textbooks

  • As new technologies change a society, librarians need to understand and adapt to technology innovations. However, most innovations that librarians are supposed to adopt are government-driven or top-down changes; and there have been very few studies conducted to identify any patterns or consistencies in librarians' perceptions of innovation. This paper, therefore, has two research purposes. First, it introduces the Concern Based Adoption Model (CBAM) as one method to gain a deeper understanding of how librarians see such changes. Second, this study identifies school librarians' concerns regarding digital textbooks in South Korea applying the CBAM theory. The test signifies that school librarians present a typical non-user profile, and the pattern anticipates a potential resistance to digital textbooks. Also, it discovers the less experienced and innovator librarians had higher concerns across every stage. The findings underscore a need of various interventions. The CBAM theory suggests, in terms of intense Stage 0 and 1, it is required for school librarians to have events to gain information about digital textbook implementation. Regarding targeted interventions, since the biggest gaps occurs in Stage 4, Consequence and Stage 5, Collaboration, according to school librarians' experience and adoption style, new school librarians need stronger engagement with the community, which including associations, mentors or peer support, and collaborating with public libraries; innovator school librarians require opportunities to test and present their use of digital textbooks (Hall and Hord 1987).

참여형 디지털 아카이브 활성화 방안 연구 (A Study on Participatory Digital Archives)

  • 본 연구는 현존하는 참여형 디지털 아카이브의 문제점을 파악하고, 적극적 이용자 참여와 연계를 기반으로 하는 참여형 디지털 아카이브의 활성화 방안을 제안하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위해 관련 선행연구와 문헌을 살피고, 사례연구를 통해 참여형 디지털 아카이브의 현황을 분석하였다. 각각의 사례는 일반, 참여, 정책, 서비스 영역으로 나누어 비교 분석하였다. 일반 속성으로 운영 주체, 지속 기간, 수집 주체, 기술을 살펴보았다. 기술은 오픈소스 소프트웨어 종류, Open API 제공 여부, 모바일 웹 제공 여부, 오프라인 아카이브 보유 여부로 다시 세분하여 분석하였다. 참여 방식은 이용자 참여도에 따라 적극적 참여, 허브 방식 참여, 소극적 참여로 구분하고, 각 아카이브가 제공하는 참여 기능을 비교 분석하였다. 정책 영역에서는 이용약관, 개인정보 처리방침, 저작권 정책, 수집정책의 보유 여부와 각 아카이브의 주요 수집물, 수집 범주, 분류 방식, 기술 요소를 논하였다. 서비스는 콘텐츠, 검색, 커뮤니케이션 영역으로 구분하여 살펴보았다. 결론에 갈음하여, 본 연구는 참여, 정책, 콘텐츠 서비스, 커뮤니케이션 서비스 측면에서 참여형 디지털 아카이브 활성화 방안을 제시하였다.

어드벤처 게임의 퍼즐 시스템이 플레이어의 게임 몰입과 참여도에 미치는 영향 (The Effect of Puzzle System on Player's Level of Immersion and Engagement in Adventure Games)

  • 본 연구는 비디오 게임 구조와 플레이어 의식의 순환적 시스템에 대한 밀도 있는 관찰과 분석을 위해 '어드벤처 게임(Adventure Game)'장르로 분석대상을 제한하였다. 어드벤처 게임 고유의 특징적 단위구조인 '퍼즐 시스템'을 분석하였고, 그 경험이 플레이어의 의식에 '완결 욕구'를 발생시켜 몰입과 참여도에 작용하는 메커니즘 연구에 중점을 두었다. 연구과정은 문헌연구와 직접 플레이 등을 통해 어드벤처게임과 그 구성 요소들의 본질적 특성 및 비디오 게임 플레이의 몰입 특성을 살펴보았으며, 어드벤처게임에서의 퍼즐 시스템을 정의하고, 이 시스템 내에서 퍼즐요소와 내러티브 요소가 유기적으로 작용하는 구조 및 플레이 과정을 분석하여 '퍼즐 시스템'과 '완결 욕구'에 대한 가설들을 수립하였다. 가설을 확인하기 위하여 극적인 컷 씬이 포함된 게임과 컷 씬이 제외된 게임단위를 제작하고 실험을 실시하여 차이를 조사하였으며, 게임 난이도의 수준차이와 실패지점의 위치 변화를 유도하여 게임의 해결여부, 실패지점에 따른 플레이어의 완결 욕구와 참여도 변화를 파악하였다.

  • The $21^{st}$ century is the age when the revolution of digital technology enables two-way communication and when emotional values are emphasized. Thus, it exerts influence on the fashion industry and fashion communication. Along with fashion shows, advertising and displays, many fashion brands have increased the use of fashion films. For that reason, this study examines the characteristics of fashion films made by fashion brands, based on the frame work of persuasion communication. For the research, literature reviews and internet website research were done and films of Chanel, Prada, Kenzo and Alexander Wang were analyzed. The definition and types of fashion films were redefined as terminology varied throughout previous studies prior to analyzing each case. As a result, a fashion film would be redefined as 'a digital image which a fashion brand publishes to consumers for the promotion of brand comprehension'. Also, five fashion film types, 'short film', 'campaign film', 'animation film', 'brand film' and 'show film' were redefined. The analysis provided three communication characteristics: reliability, engagement and intuition. First, reliability is attained when a fashion brand (sender) delivers brand message to consumers (receiver) consistently and unitedly. Second, engagement is attained when the type of fashion film (channel) delivers creative image features such as format, music, video technique to attract consumers' interest. Lastly, intuition is attained when a fashion brand (sender) delivers a message akin to brand identity and deepens consumers' understanding. In addition, this study tried to identify the unique usage tendency of brands that could serve as practice guidelines for other fashion brands.

가상현실에서 디지털 스토리텔링 형태가 학습자의 재미와 이해에 미치는 영향 (The Effect of Digital Storytelling Type on the Learner's Fun and Comprehension in Virtual Reality)

  • 이 연구의 목적은 세컨드라이프와 같은 3차원 가상현실에서 디지털 스토리텔링의 교육적인 가능성을 탐색해 보는데 있다. 세컨드라이프와 같은 가상현실은 현실 수준을 반영한 충실도를 통해 학습자들에게 풍부한 학습 환경을 제공할 수 있다. 이 연구를 위해 우리는 디지털 스토리텔링의 유형별로 재미와 이해도에 미치는 영향을 알아보고자 실험대상자 108명을 대상으로 세컨드라이프와 같은 가상현실에서 디지털스토리텔링 활동을 수행하였다. 실험 결과스토리텔링 형태에 있어서 이해에는 집단간 차이가 없지만, 재미에는 집단간 유의한 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 이야기 주인공과 동질감을 느낄 수 있고 이야기와 유사한 환경을 제공하는 가상현실 활동이 학습자들의 참여를 촉진하여 재미에 중요한 영향을 미친다는 결과를 얻었다.

  • Interactive media is a method of communication in which the output from the media comes from the input of the users. The interactive media lets the user go back with the media. Interactive media works with the user's participation. The media still has the same purpose but the user's input adds the interaction and brings interesting features to the system for a better enjoyment. We need a digital content using a dynamic motion and gesture of the mobile device. We made an authoring tool for content producers to easily create interactive content. We have tried to take advantage of the interaction by using a touch screen and a gravity sensor of the mobile device. This interaction may lead to allow the user to participate in the content, it can be used as a key device to assist in engagement. Furthermore, our authoring tool can be applied to various fields of publishing content.

Play or Work?: Generativity in Online Games

  • The digital multi-sided platform has led the growth of industries. Accelerating this growth, generativity allowed innovation based on boundary-less modularity. Online games are a rich source of research but most of the research is dedicated in examining only the online game itself. However, there is a growing need to understand online games in an ecosystem level for a new phase of evolution is starting based on generativity. With generativity, online game users now make new graphics and quest that can be added and shared to the already existing game environment. The ecosystem is moving towards finding an amicable multi-sided distribution platform for these user generated game contents. Preliminary data suggest the possibility of actual connection between generativity and users' game engagement. Interviews and surveys will be prepared to find out the details of the possible relationship and how the ecosystem will shape accordingly.

  • 본 논문은 스마트 시민 정당 개념 정립을 위해서 스마트 시민 정당의 정의 및 유형, 스마트 시민 정당의 기능을 살펴보고 CocKpit, PADGET, UBIPOL 등 7개의 스마트 시민 정당 플랫폼 사례를 분석하였다. 본 연구에서 분류하고 분석한 요소기술은 개방형 데이터 정보관리 기술, 소설 컴퓨팅 및 시민참여 관련 기술, 정책 분석 및 정책결정 관련 기술, 보안 및 개인정보보호 관련 기술과 협업정치를 위한 인프라 관리기술로서 스마트 시민 정당 구축을 위해서는 관련 요소기술들의 확보뿐만 아니라 각 기술 간의 연동 및 통합기술이 필요한 것으로 나타났다.
