  • The purpose of this study was to analyzes the Job of Dental Hygienists in Dental (Clinics) Hospitals the Capital region. This study analyzes the degree of job importance and education-training need about and task, task according to work place and work age. The results are as follows : (1) Job importance of dental hygienists were order 'photographing in Dental Radiology', 'Management of Dental clinic', 'Oral prophylaxis', in case education-training need was order 'dental health insurance', 'Oral prophylaxis', 'Management of Dental clinic'. duty more than 5.0 of job importance and education-training need was as 'dental health education', 'Oral prophylaxis', 'preventive dental treatment', 'dental assistance (cooperation)', 'photographing in Dental Radiology', 'dental health insurance', 'Management of Dental clinic', Duty of practice centering in Dental (Clinics) Hospitals except 'Public oral health'. (2) Job importance and education-training need of task increased most of job importance in proportion to education-training need. (3) No significantly between dental hospital hygienist and dental clinic hygienist difference of job importance and education-training need according to work place. but 'Management of Dental clinic' and 'dental health insurance' of dental hospital hygienist lower than dental clinic hygienist. (4) The results job importance compare less 3 years to more 3 years of dental hygienists were perceive significantly 'dental health education', 'Public oral health', 'dental health insurance', 'Management of Dental clinic' the other hand, education-training need was perceive significantly 'preventive dental treatment'.

Parents' recognition and attitudes toward national health insurance coverage of sealant by dental hygienist (치아홈메우기의 건강보험 급여화와 치과위생사 시술에 대한 학부모의 인식 및 태도)

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate parents' recognition and attitudes toward national health insurance coverage of sealant by the dental hygienists. Methods: A self-reported questionnaire was filled out by 329 elementary school children parents in G metropolitan city and N city from July 11 to 27, 2015. The questionnaire consisted of general characteristics of the subjects, recognition and attitudes toward national health insurance coverage of sealant and sealant by the dental hygienist, and recognition toward national health insurance. The data were analyzed by a descriptive analyses, multiple regression and logistic regression analysis using SPSS 12.0 program. Results: Recognition of national health insurance coverage was 2.52 times higher in high school and 4.97 times higher in recognition toward purpose of sealant. Factor affecting recognition of national health insurance was subscription of private health insurance, recognition of sealant treatment by dental hygienist (DH) and recognition of national health insurance coverage of sealant. Attitude toward sealant treatment by DH was positive in experience of sealant, recognition of sealant treatment by DH and experience of sealant treatment by DH. Factor affecting satisfaction on the sealant by DH was recognition of sealant treatment by DH and recognition of purpose of sealant. Conclusions: To increase national health insurance coverage of sealant, it is necessary to expand positive public relations of sealant by the dental hygienist.

Perception, Attitude, Performance on the Hand Washing by Dental Hygienist (치과위생사의 손씻기 인지도와 태도 및 수행도)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine perception, attitude, performance on the hand washing by dental hygienist. A self-reported questionnaire was surveyed by 165 dental hygienist in G area. The data were analyzed for frequency analysis, average, standard deviation, independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, pearson's correlation coefficient by using SPSS 21.0 program. The perception on the hand washing, age and work place, career, Number of hand washing, Frequency of hand washing education were higher significantly. The attitude, performance on the hand washing by dental hygienist, age, career, work place were higher significantly. There were positive correlations among the perception, attitude, performance of dental hygienists on the hand washing by dental hygienist. The result of this study indicates a necessity for developing education programs consistently to improve perception, attitude, performance of hand washing by dental hygienist.

A subjective symptom on indoor air quality in dental hygienist (치과위생사의 실내공기질에 의한 자각증상 특성)

  • This research is based on self-filling survey which 220 dental hygienists who work in seoul participated on July 2006 through August 2006. This survey was analyzed the experience item and occurred time of the symptoms and the time of acute and vanish of the symptoms that dental office's working environment effects on physical subjective symptom. We suggest a plan to minimizing physical subjective symptom for health manage of dental hygienist. We found out the fact that dental hygienists were unsatisfied with hospital air condition and this polluted air condition cause them physical subjective symptom in work place. As follows analyzed results ventilation time is below the 3-times a day, this may be have some trouble in indoor air quality. The experience the symptoms level is higher then non-experience level in "Fatigue and sleepiness", "Dorsalgia, omarthralgia, cervicodynia", "Hypersensitivity", "Dry eye, itch, smarting", "Headaches" and a subjective symptom is occurred at after 11:00(am) more then 60%, 50% of the dental hygienist. This experience the symptom' pain is vanished after the work and reduced when go out the office and building, respectively. The ratio of the experience the symptoms and starting time the symptoms is anywhere from 12 noon to 4 pm (73.2%) in a day. The time of acute pain the symptoms is anywhere from 12 noon to 4 pm (78.7%) refer to the individual characteristics and work environment.

Factors affecting perception of dental hygienists (치과위생사에 관한 인식에 영향을 미치는 요인)

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the perception of dental hygienists and look for ways to inform the dental hygienist correctly by investigating factors influencing the perception of dentalhygienists. Methods: The final analysis population for this study was composed of 302 adults aged 20 years or older who were living in Seoul or Gyeonggi-do. Statistical analysis of the collected data was conducted using the SPSS WIN 22.0 statistical program. Results: When factors influencing perceptions of dental hygienists were investigated, educational background beyond high school (p<0.05), educational background beyond college (p<0.001), occupation (student, p<0.05), title (dental hygienist, p<0.01), and whether dental hygienists offered comfort during treatment (yes, p<0.001) were found to exert statistically significant influence. In other words, participants with educational background beyond high school and college, student, participants who call the title dental hygienists, and participants who felt comforted by dental hygienists during treatment had better perceptions of dental hygienists. Conclusions: Based upon the results as mentioned above, It will be needed more training to enhance the skills of a dental hygienist patient response. Also participants who felt comforted by dental hygienists during treatment had better perceptions of dental hygienists. This indicates a need to devise ways to better foster the ability of dental hygienists.

A study on the role of dental Hygienist for revitalization of Dental Health class in Community Health Center (지역 보건소 구강보건실 활성화를 위한 치과위생사 역할 정립에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of study was to offer devices to activate the dental health class of community health center and to evaluate the present programs and to propose adequate guidelines for future public dental health program of dental health care in health center. For this study, the mail quastionnaire survey was carried out from the 116 dental hygienists who are working in community health center. Present condition and direction of public dental health service are as follows: dentist's office was 90% by area and work department. Dental health department was equipped in 91.7% of 'public health center', but 'health branch office' was 57.9%. Dental hygienist education condition of Public health center was the most frequency in 'At large city'. 'Have no entirely' of dental health education number of times was 35.8% in 3 years. That is 44.5% in supplement insturction. Most Dental hygienist's business was most 'teeth-sealant' and 'Old man false teeth prosthetic dentistry business'. Therefor, The Obstacle factors of dental health service activity were 'manpower tribe(average 3.92)', and next 'lack of understanding and support insufficiency of law(average 3.47)'. Curriculum for educational practice should be also designed for brightening the dental health service business. The most important thing for dental health service is 'expanding and improving the facilities Legal system' and next 'Opportunity enlargement and activation that can take dental hygienist's residency'.

Opinions of Korean dental hygienists on the advanced dental hygienist system in Korea (치과위생사의 한국형 전문치과위생사제도 도입에 대한 견해)

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate the opinions of Korean dental hygienists on the Korean advanced dental hygienist system in Korea. Methods: The survey was conducted on 328 dental hygienists working at dental clinics and hospitals in Seoul, Gyeonggi-do, Incheon, and Chungcheong-do. Collected data were analyzed with the frequency analysis, independent-samples t-test, and one-way analysis of variance after their reliability and validity were verified through the reliability, exploratory factor, and confirmatory factor analyses. Results: Respondents preferred sectoral advanced dental hygienists to integrated advanced dental hygienists, but 47.0% of respondents did not respond to this questionnaire item. To become an advanced dental hygienist, 'more than 5 years but less than 8 years' of clinical experience was appropriate according to 45.7% of the respondents and 'more than 30 h but less than 40 h' of training period was appropriate according to 25.9% of the respondents. Respondents thought that the duration of the training period for advanced dental hygienists would be directly proportional to expectations from the effect of advanced dental hygienists (p=0.023). Further, respondents who were usually interested in advanced dental hygienists showed higher expectations from the role (p<0.001) and effect (p<0.001) of advanced dental hygienists than those who were not interested. Conclusions: This study suggests various implications of the introduction of the advanced dental hygienist system in Korea.

  • Background: The number and curriculum of dental hygienists in Korea have dramatically increased. Controversies have since resulted from insufficient job descriptions of the work performed by a dental hygienist. A dentist's perception was examined to legally reflect the actual work of dental hygienists. Methods: Four hundred and nineteen dentists were surveyed about the duties of a dental hygienist. Their views on the career and availability of each job were examined. The duties of the dental hygienist include 13 items in dental treatment preparation, 14 items of radiography, 21 items of preventive dentistry, 6 items of periodontal treatment, 12 items of oral medicine, 12 items of conservative dentistry, 8 items of prosthetics, 10 items of orthodontics, 7 items of oral and maxillofacial surgery, 6 items of implantation, 6 items of impression taking and model fabrication, 5 items of anesthesia and injection, 11 items of management and administrative, and 3 items of self-development. Results: Most of the duties were doable by a dental hygienist. Many dentists reported that managing implants, oral hygiene of special patients, some duties in oral medicine, teeth brightening, making temporary crowns, making individual trays, selecting shades, ligaturing, and precision impressions need ≥3 years of experience. Duties perceived by dentists not to be performed by dental hygienists were reading radiographs (55.4%), suture and stitch out (48.0%), intramuscular injection (36.0%), root planning (27.2%), cementation and removal of prostheses (23.2%), and examining pulp vitality (22.0%). Conclusion: Current laws are to be revised to include, the care provided by dental hygienists and under a physician's supervision. Flexibility is also needed to cope with rapidly changing dental technology.

Factors affecting clinical dental hygienist emotional intelligence on burnout (임상치과위생사의 감성지능이 소진에 영향을 미치는 요인)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the factors affecting the exhaustion of emotional intelligence of clinical dental hygienist and to improve the quality of customer service and effective management of clinical dental hygienist. The results of the study were as follows: 394 clinical dental hygienists working in Jeollabukdo from February 6 to May 31, 2017. Clinical dental hygienist's emotional intelligence showed a significant negative correlation with burnout(r=-.623, p<.001). Self emotion appraisal, others' emotion appraisal, and use of emotion were found to be related factors to exhaustion of clinical dental hygienist..Based on the results of this study, it would be necessary to develop programs to improve the emotional intelligence of clinical dental hygienists, to reduce burnout and to improve the work efficiency of clinical dental hygienists.
