  • Recently, Korea Air Force has been facing a lot of problems in its pilot training system such as training time shortage due to the expensive gas price, noise pollution and difficulties in finding airspace for training. To tackle these problems, a new training system (called L-V training system) using both aircraft and its simulator has been suggested. In the system, a data link is established between aircraft and simulator to exchange their flight information. Using the flight information of simulator, aircraft can perform various air missions with or against imaginary aircraft (i.e., simulator). For this system, it is crucially important that fair fighting condition has to be guaranteed between aircraft and simulator. In this paper, we suggested an approach to impose a maneuvering restriction to simulator in order to provide fair fighting condition between aircraft and simulator.

  • We implemented the Aural Cueing System(ACS) system of the reconfigurable tactical trainer(RTT) for th rotor aircraft. RTT provides a collective training system to meet aviation training requirements and supports organizational training for aviations units in combined arms collective training and mission rehearsal. ACS handles the volume, pitch and repetition of the digitally stored sounds based on commands it receives from an UDP/IP. In this paper, we explained and implemented the conceptual and detail design the ACS system for the rotor aircraft such as AH-1H(Iroquios), UH-60(Blackhwak), AH-1(Cobra) etc. The conceptual design composed of the sound cueing data analysis, sound modelling which is inner, outer, weapon and warn environment of rotor aircraft, sound synthesis and replay.

  • The government conducted an aviation expert training project in 2013. But unfortunately, only pilots and international experts were targeted and aircraft maintenance engineers that are the most important to safety were not trainee to the training courses. More importantly, the more the absolute number of aircrafts increases, the more demand for aircraft maintenance engineers are going up as well. Through the evaluation indicators for the Government-Sponsored Program Fostering Aviation Personnel(aircraft maintenance engineers). it figured out factors associated with the Government-Sponsored Program Fostering Aircraft Maintenance Engineers and it suggested a baseline data necessary to inspect and manage professional training institutions. Thanks to the development of the evaluation indicators, it is highly expected that difference among institutions will be narrowed, elevated level of management of the institutions will help foster and yield satisfactory aircraft maintenance engineers.

  • An aircraft simulator for ergonomics testing and pilot training was developed from the joint work Agency for Defense Development(ADD) and Daewoo Heavy Industry, LTD, in Korea at first time. It is basically to satisfy the requirements established by FAA-AC-120-40C ( 1995-JAN-26). The aircraft simulator will be used mainly for ergonomics testing and pilot training for basic trainer on ADD and Korea Air Force in near futrue. This simulator reproduces faithfully the cockpit and flight characteristics of the KTX-1 aircraft. It is one of the latest full flight simulators that have the CGI(computer graphic image) visual system and six degree of freedom motions system. Development efforts focused on user-oriented design approach for ergonomics testing and flight training of pilots. Main characteristics of each subsystem are described such as cockpit, instruments, control loading system, motion system, visual system, aural system, instructor operation station and aircraft simulation softwear.

A Study on the Configuration Modeling and Aerodynamic Analysis of Small Airplanes for Flight Training (교육용 소형 항공기의 형상 모델링과 공력 분석에 관한 연구)

  • This paper presents comparative results of configuration modeling and aerodynamic analysis to single-engine airplanes such as C-172, SR-20, and DA40NG. The software OpenVSP was used as an airplane configuration modeling tool. OpenVSP can provide the fastest method to get three-dimensional aircraft configuration from given basic data and drawings of aircraft. Parametric design input in OpenVSP, from given aircraft geometric parameters, was applied to small airplanes mentioned. New aircraft models in this study were reversely designed to coincide with the publicly obtained dimensions of the original aircraft. The basic aerodynamic analysis of newly designed modeling aircraft was performed by the vortex lattice method. Results are shown that the similarity of aerodynamic data obtained except for the lack of DA40NG. In conclusion, the modeling process applied to this work is valuable to obtain conceptual design insight in the reverse design from the small airplanes currently in use for flight training.

  • It has been focused on that the major reasons of aircraft accidents resulted not from human error but from the failure of teamwork or communication in 1980's. Such opinions were suggested in the workshop, so called, "Resource Management on the Flight Deck" by NASA in 1979. The researchers agreed the fact the source of human error was originated from the failure in teamwork, communication or even in leadership of captain. Due to the rapid development of aircraft technologies, the reasons for aircraft accident could be easily found out. According to the analysis results of the technology, most of reasons for the accident might directly be connected not to human error or stick-Rudder skill but to situational awareness, communication, leadership or decision making in the aircraft. This paper has tried to research empirically the satisfaction of flight crews who have gone thorugh CRM training in the commercial airline. Based on the quantitative scale by J. Ford et al. (2014), this paper has proved which characteristics of CRM training has a positive impact on the overall satisfaction of CRM training. It was proven that the teamwork and decision making programs among CRM training have a major effect to the satisfaction level of flight crews.

  • This study has been conducted for current situation of and countermeasures for aircraft noise. Aircraft noise is difficult to control, because of its wide-range effects, and it needs a great deal of funding for noise prevention like removal airport or land purchasing. And, in effort of determine whether aircraft noise can have health effects such as hearing loss, hypertension and psychological stress. This study, which uses of noise data around flight training airports in Korea, tries to understand and confirm related laws and regulations, and present civil application and situation of countermeasures. And, by measuring data of flight training airport, the situation of training aircraft noise problem have tried to confirm. To overcome these limitations and establish appropriate measures against noise, we made noise map with INM version 7.0, FAA aircraft noise prediction program, and evaluated aircraft noise. In particular, the FAA's Integrated Noise Model(INM) is widely used by the civilian aviation community for evaluating aircraft noise impacts in the vicinity of airports. We analyzed noise impact by applying several scenarios. As these analysis, we suggest flight route without overlapping with residential area and without affecting flight safety.

Aircraft Recognition from Remote Sensing Images Based on Machine Vision

  • Due to the poor evaluation indexes such as detection accuracy and recall rate when Yolov3 network detects aircraft in remote sensing images, in this paper, we propose a remote sensing image aircraft detection method based on machine vision. In order to improve the target detection effect, the Inception module was introduced into the Yolov3 network structure, and then the data set was cluster analyzed using the k-means algorithm. In order to obtain the best aircraft detection model, on the basis of our proposed method, we adjusted the network parameters in the pre-training model and improved the resolution of the input image. Finally, our method adopted multi-scale training model. In this paper, we used remote sensing aircraft dataset of RSOD-Dataset to do experiments, and finally proved that our method improved some evaluation indicators. The experiment of this paper proves that our method also has good detection and recognition ability in other ground objects.
