  • This study tries to measure the change in the state dependence of the three labor supply choices (part-time, full-time, and the state of unemployed) in Korean married women's labor market by estimating the dynamic multinomial logit model based on MSL (maximum simulated likelihood) method. A component representing individual's unobserved characteristics has been introduced, because it is crucial to control for unobserved heterogeneity in assessing the state dependence. Estimation results show that the state dependences of the three alternatives have strengthened recently. Therefore, part-time job has become more likely to be functioning as an extra option to participate in labor market rather than a bridge(stepping stone) or shelter between unemployment and full-time job.

  • Objective Alcohol causes damage to the brain and is associated with various functional impairments. However, much of the brain damage can be reversed by abstaining for enough time. This study aims to investigate the patterns and degrees of brain function in abstinent patients with alcohol dependence by using resting- state functional connectivity. Methods 26 male patients with alcohol dependence (alcohol group) and 28 age-matched male healthy volunteers (control group) were recruited from a mental hospital and the community, respectively. Using 3T MRI scan data, the resting-state functional connectivity of the task-negative and task-positive networks was determined and compared between the groups. Results There were no significant group differences in the resting-state functional connectivity in the default mode or in the salience and sensorimotor networks. Compared with the control group, the alcohol group showed significantly lower functional connectivity in the executive control network, especially in the cingulo-opercular network and, in some regions of interest, the dorsal attention network. Conclusion This finding suggests that some brain networks do not normalize their functions after abstinence from drinking, and these results may be helpful in future research to investigate the mechanisms for craving alcohol and alcohol relapse prevention.

  • This study intends to the estimate the determinants and state dependence of long-term care services in Korea. For this purpose, we analyzed the transition patterns among three states of long-term care service utilization over time by using the Korea Welfare Panel Study data with the random effect multinomial logit model. It is found that the result showed a strong state dependence in long-term care service utilization. Especially, long-term care insurance for the elderly showed a strong state dependence among others. Among the individual demographic characteristics, the higher the age, the higher the probability of using long-term care insurance for the elderly, while the lower the probability when married. The characteristics of the residential region showed that the residents of the urban-rural integrated region had a significantly higher probability of using long-term care insurance than the reference region. The results of this study suggest that the long-term care service users have a strong state dependence, which means that it is important to take into account the increase in the utilization period of existing users in future demand forecasting.

  • The effect of the out-of-plane retardation (Rth) of a substrate film on the viewing-angle dependence of transmittance (TR) in a display device was investigated. When the polarization state of input light deviates from the transmission axis of the polarizer, Rth of the substrate film induces inhomogeneous viewing-angle dependence of TR. The inhomogeneity of TR gets worse for greater values of of Rth. The inhomogeneous TR profile can be eliminated by inserting compensation films, which convert the input polarization state to the linear polarization state parallel to the transmission axis of the polarizer.

  • There are many opportunistic events that accidentally happen in Rin Taro's animations. However, audiences usually enjoy them in which dramatic catastrophic scenes inflict destruction on a city. Every acquaintance that a hero meets helps him to complete his wish in . Rin's animations describe the hero as a person that every acquaintance is eager to help. This means that the fulfillment of hero's wish depends on sympathy of the other persons toward the hero. Thus, the hero is psychologically dependent on the others. However, Rin Taro gradually became to describe destructive aspects of psychological dependence. A female character in 'X' has a symbiotic relationship with a computer that has a human-like jealousy. At last, it kills her from its jealousy. Rin Taro had shifted from helpful psychological dependence to destructive one in his animations. Therefore, Rin Taro described Japanese mental state as psychological dependence in his animations in accordance with the present state in Japan.

  • The article is devoted to the study of the density dependence of the horns tissue on the species and the age of the representatives of the deer family. In scientific literature this problem was covered partially. Basic physical parameters (mass, volume, and density) of horns from red deer (Cervus elaphus), fallow deer (Dama dama), European (Capreolus capreolus) and Siberian roe deer (Capreolus pygargus) were estimated. The present study was designed to analyze the results for making identification of species and age of the animal possible.

  • Objectives: The aim of this study is to seek an effective way to support smoking cessation by analyzing any change to the pattern of nicotine dependence according to the change in time. Methods: The study was conducted with 800 male smokers who had participated in smoking cessation programs at public health centers from July 16, 2005 to July 15, 2008. Latent growth curve modeling approach was used for data analysis. Results: From the developmental trajectory of individual nicotine dependence, while nicotine dependence of smokers with high nicotine dependence in the first year was slightly decreased in the third year, smokers with low nicotine dependence in the year showed dramatically lower nicotine dependence in the third year. Compared with those who did not successfully quit smoking, the initial value of nicotine dependence of those who successfully quit smoking in the first and the second year was low. Over the years, nicotine dependence was decreased. Conclusion: From this study it was demonstrated that nicotine dependence was reduced through the practice of smoking cessation and reduced nicotine dependence was a factor which affects successful smoking cessation. These results indicate that multiple attempts to quit smoking finally reduces nicotine dependence. Reduced nicotine dependence is likely to increase the possibility of successful smoking cessation.

  • RFID systems generate huge amount of data quickly. The data are associated with the locations and the timestamps and the containment relationships. It is requires to assure efficient queries and updates for product tracking and monitoring. We propose a clustering technique for fast query processing. Our study presents the state charts of temporal event flow and proposes the dependence trees with data association and uses them to cluster the linked events. Our experimental evaluation show the power of proposing clustering technique based on dependence tree.

  • Predicting human mobility has always been an important task in Location-based Social Network. Previous efforts fail to capture spatial dependence effectively, mainly reflected in weakening the location topology information. In this paper, we propose a neural network-based method which can capture spatial-temporal dependence to predict the next location of a person. Specifically, we involve a graph convolutional network (GCN) based on a seq2seq framework to capture the location topology information and temporal dependence, respectively. The encoder of the seq2seq framework first generates the hidden state and cell state of the historical trajectories. The GCN is then used to generate graph embeddings of the location topology graph. Finally, we predict future trajectories by aggregated temporal dependence and graph embeddings in the decoder. For evaluation, we leverage two real-world datasets, Foursquare and Gowalla. The experimental results demonstrate that our model has a better performance than the compared models.

  • The new cationic meso-substituted N-quarternized 4-pyridylporphyrins and their metal derivatives were synthesized as novel chemotherapeutics. The level of DNA damage induced by porphyrins TOBut4PyP, TOBut4PyP, TOEt4PyPMn and TOBut4PyPMn and its dependence on the chemical structure of compounds were analyzed by the Comet-assay. On the base of data obtained, the investigated porphyrins may be arranged by their genotoxic activity in the following order: TOEt4PyP>TOEt4PyPMn>TOBut4PyP>TOBut4PyPMn. Thus, i) the genotoxicity of the Mn-derivatives of TOEt4PyP and TOBut4PyP is higher than the original porphyrins and ii) the genotoxicity of TOEt4PyP and TOEt4PyPMn is increased after substitution of a butyl radical for ethyl one. The applied Comet-assay permits to reveal the dependence of DNA damage induction on the chemical structure of porphyrins.
