  • Solid polymer electrolyte is very important in the applications to high energy density lithium batteries of high safety. In this work, solid polymer electrolytes based on PE non-woven matrix, hybrid salt, and anion receptor were successfully prepared. They could provide high ion conduction phase with maintaining mechanical strength. They also showed high electrochemical stability and lithium ion transference number. This new type of solid polymer electrolyte is expected to be a good candidate for rechargeable solid state lithium secondary batteries.

  • Solid-state dye-sensitized solar cells were fabricated using a polymer matrix in electrolyte in the purpose of the improvement of the durability in the dye-sensitized solar cell. In these dye-sensitized solar cells, the polymer electrolyte consisting of $I_2$, LiI, ionic liquid, ethylene carbonate/propylene carbonate and polymer matrix was casted onto $TiO_2$ electrode impregnated Ruthenium complex dye as a photosensitizer. Photovoltaic properties of solid-state dye-sensitized solar cells using polymer matrix (PMMA, PEG, or PAN) were investigated. Comparing photovoltaic effects of cells using hole conducting polymers (BE or 6P) instead of polymer matrix, we investigated the availability of the solid-state polymer electrolyte in dye-sensitized solar cells.

  • In order to fabricate stable conductive polymer actuators which can be operated in air, conductivity and solidity of polymer electrolyte materials have been studied. It was found that Nafion+LiCl is appropriate material to be used for conductive polymer actuator. Using the Nafion+LiCl solid polymer electrolyte, single layer PPy actuators have been fabricated and their deflection was measured. Double layer PPy actuators make up for shortcoming of single layer PPy actuator and displacement and frequency response can be improved by fabrication of double layer PPy actuator. This kind of all-solid-polymer actuator can be used for practical applications.

  • A lithium ion battery with polymer electrolyte is expected as a safe and long cycle life battery. This paper reports primarily the recent development results of a solid polymer electrolyte, which is a key factor of the secondary battery system, that has been obtained during the process of the development of a polymer type lithium battery. As a successful result of the solid polymer electrolyte. The ionic conductivity of the solid polymer electrolyte, which is composed of polyacrylonitrile and $LiClO_4\;with\; Al_2O_3$ dissolved as the supporting electrolyte, has been confirmed to be $2.3\times10^{-4} S/cm$ at room temperature.

  • The solid-state electrolyte based on polymer has great attention to develop its ionic conductivity from conventional polymer electrolyte by using wide range of ionic liquids with remarkable processability, flexibility and is applicable to various electrochemical devices including batteries, supercapacitor. Polymer electrolyte based on Ionic liquid with high conductivity, wide electrochemical stability, thermal stability is used in various electronic devices. In this work, we have investigated and developed solid-state electrolyte based on ionic liquid and polymer with enhanced ionic conductivity and electrochemical performances to conduct to various electronic devices including secondary battery. The ionic conductivity of polymer based solid state electrolyte with optimized ratio of the ionic liquid was 1.46-2 S/cm. The ionic liquid and polymer based electrolyte with enhanced ionic conductivity is promising candidates to utilize in wide range of secondary batteries.

  • We have prepared siloxane polymers grafted with trifluoromethane-sulfonylamide and oligoether side chains for solid polymer electrolytes with enhanced ionic conductivity. The grafted trifluoromethane sulfonylamide groups seem to be effective as an anion recepting site to enhance the ionic conductivity of the solid polymer electrolyte. The anion receptor grafted siloxane polymers showed one order of magnitude higher ionic conductivity than the siloxane polymers without anion receptor grafts. The fitting parameter A of the VTF plot which was related to the carrier density of the electrolyte increased with increasing the number of grafted anion receptor. The results of experiment indicate that the anion-complexing site of the anion receptor grafted polymer host effectively traps the anions. The anion receptor grafted polymer was found to be a promising material for lithium polymer batteries.

  • A polymeric ionic liquid, poly(1-methyl 3-(2-acryloyloxypropyl) imidazolium iodide) (PMAPII), was synthesized as a single-iodide-ion-conducting polymer and employed in a gel polymer electrolyte. Gel polymer electrolytes prepared from iodine, 4-tert-butylpyridine, ${\gamma}$-butyrolactone, and PMAPII were applied in quasi-solid-state dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). The addition of 16 wt.% PMAPII provided the most favorable environment, striking a compromise between the iodide ion concentration and the ionic mobility, which resulted in the highest conversion efficiency of the resulting DSSCs. The quasi-solid-state DSSC assembled with the optimized gel polymer electrolyte exhibited a relatively high conversion efficiency of 7.67% under AM 1.5 illumination at $100mA\;cm^{-2}$ and better stability than that of the DSSC with a liquid electrolyte.

  • Anion exchange polymer electrolyte pore-filling membranes consisting of the whole hydrocarbon materials were prepared by photo polymerization with various quaternary ammonium cationic monomers and characterized on the properties for applying to solid alkali fuel cell (SAFC). Hydrocarbon porous substrates such as polyethylene were used for the preparation of the pore-filling membranes. The hydroxyl ion conductivity of the polymer electrolyte membranes prepared in this research was dependent on the composition ratio of an electrolyte monomer and crosslinking agents used for polymerization. Furthermore, these pore-filling membranes have commonly excellent properties such as smaller dimensional affects when swollen in solvents, higher mechanical strength, lower fuel crossover through the membranes, and easier preparation process than those of traditional cast membranes.

  • The purpose of this study is to research and develop solid polymer electrolyte(SPE) for Li polymer battery. The temperature dependence of conductivity, impedance spectroscopy and electrochemical properties of PMMA/PVDF electrolytes as a function of a mixed ratio were reported for PMMA/PVDF based polymer electrolyte films, which were prepared by thermal gellification method of preweighed PMMA/PVDF, plasticizer and Li salt. The ion conductivity of PMMA/PVDF electrolytes was 10$\^$-3/S/cm, which may be applicable to a constituent of lithium secondary battery. 5PMMA20PVDFLiC1O$_4$PC$\sub$8/EC$\sub$8/ electrolyte remains stable up to 5V vs. Li/Li$\^$+/. Steady state current method and AC impedance were used for the determination of transference numbers in PMMA/PVDF electrolyte film. The transference number of 5PMMA20PVDFLiC1O$_4$PC$\sub$8/EC$\sub$8/ electrolyte is 0.55.

  • A cross-linked solid polymer electrolyte was prepared by copolymerizing photochemically acrylonitrile (AN), oligo(ethylene glycol ethyl ether) methacrylate, oligo(ethylene glycol) dimethacrylate in the presence of lithium perchlorate as a lithium salt, ethylene carbonate-propylene carbonate as a mixed plasticizer, and poly(ethylene oxide) as a polymer matrix. The maximum ionic conductivity of the polymer electrolyte was 2.35$\times$10$\^$-3/ S/cm. The interface resistance of the polymer electrolyte was very low compared to that of the polymer electrolyte without AN. The former electrolyte was stable up to 4.3 V and the Ah efficiency was nearly 100% during the charge-discharge cycle.
