  • The fisheries resources by a set net in the coastal waters off Neungpo, Goeje Island from 2003 to 2004 were studied to determine species composition and catch variation. The main fishing period by a set net were from April to December in 2003 and from May to December in 2004. A total weight of 48 species caught through the survey period was 540,688.0kg. Most of them were 44 species of fishes and a few were 4 species of cephalopods. Dominant species was Trachurus japonicus accounting to 57.5% in total catch. Sub-dominant species were Trichiurus lepturus(12.9%), Engraulis japonicus(10.6%), Scomber japonicus(6.9%), Clupea pallasii(4.5%), Todarodes pacificus(2.8%) and Parapristipoma trilineaturm(1.3%). The remnant species showed a low catch, indicating the catch had less than 1% in total, respectively. T. japonicus and T. lepturus were caught throughout the survey period, but C. pallasii, Gadus macrocephalus, Oncorhynchus keta in low temperature season and Thunnus obesus in high temperature season. The fishing ground temperature was 11.7-24.0${^{\circ}C}$ in range and the catch by a set net was higher in autumn than in spring and in summer with the variation of fishing ground temperature. The annual catch by a set net was much higher in 2004 than in 2003 due to high temperature(>17${^{\circ}C}$) and the recruitment of T. japonicus from offshore seas. Therefore we concluded that the catch of Neungpo fishing ground by a set net was highly related to the variation of T. japonicus catch with fishing ground temperature.

  • For the purpose of providing the basic data on the improved fishing gear and the man power saving, which contribute to enhance fishing efficiency of set net in the coast of Jeju Island, this study executed the test of fish tank by reducing these actual nets by 1/30 and using the manufactured model nets, and observed and interpreted the behaviors of entering and escaping of the schools of mackerel Scomber japonicus, horse mackerel Trachurus japonicus and rabbit fish Siganus fuscescens. Thereby the result is as follows ; 1. After the elapsed time of 60 seconds, in case of rectangular set net, the ratio for entering by a school of fish marked 50% with mackerel, 18% with horse mackerel and 28% with rabbit fish, and in case of pound net, the ratio for entering net by a school of fish marked 70% with mackerel, 60% with horse mackerel and 30% with rabbit fish. 2. After the elapsed time of 60 seconds, in case of rectangular set net, the ratio for escaping by a school of fish marked 70% with mackerel, 40% with horse mackerel and 24% with rabbit fish, and in case of pound net, the ratio for escaping from net by a school of fish marked 0% with mackerel, 0% with horse mackerel and 3% with rabbit fish. 3. After the elapsed time of 60 seconds, in case of rectangular set net, the ratio for remaining by a school of fish marked 30% with mackerel, 60% with horse mackerel and 76% with rabbit fish, and in case of pound net, the ratio for remaining by a school of fish marked 100% with mackerel, 100% with horse mackerel and 97% with rabbit fish.

  • This paper studies coverability tree and reach-ability set of Petri net under the earliest filing rule. Conventional algorithm for coverability tree for ‘normal’ Petri net is not good for Petri net under the earliest firing rule. More over, it is shown that there exists no coverability graph for general class of earliest firing Petri net. Some subclasses are studied where coverability graph can be constructed.

  • The set-net fishing is involved in the trap fishing method that intercepts the fishes migrating along the coast and induces them to be in the bag net stretched in advance. And this fishing also corresponds to the licensed fishing in fisheries law. Though its annual total production of around 50,000 to 70,000 M/T is less than in other fishery section, its price becomes higher because the fishes are sold in the live fish condition. Until recently, the set-net fishing is one of the preferred fisheries on account of its less operation expense and stably operating condition in a long term. In the meantime, the industrialization in Korea having been prospered along coastal area and the over fishing in terms of the powered and larger size fishing boat make the fishing ground environment worse yearly. In addition, its difficulty becomes more worse with issuing fishery product free import in July 1997; accordingly, the strategy for the set-net fishing through business rationalization should be considered. From the discussion of the sort of set-net, general present situation and operating actual state of set-net fishing, the improved methods for business rationalization in the present paper is proposed as follows: 1. to increase the fisheries resource through prevention of the marine contamination and purification of coastal area environment. 2. to save the labour cost through the improved the fishing gear. 3. to improve the fish quality through development of the process technology. 4. to increase the income of fishers through improvement of the distribution channels.

  • According to the catch condition of Scomberomorus niphonius in autumn season affected greatly, the catch price for the set net fishery. Catch production and the selling price were relatively even except 2009 showing a great big blooming jellyfish of Nemopliema nomurai in 2008~2011. The fishing cost of the set net fishery in Yeosu has increased gradually by the decrease of catch production and unexpected environmental change like as jelly fish blooming. The increase of fishing cost diminished net income and caused a negative impact in profitability. The lowest Fisheries ratio of gross profit to gross costs the set net fishery were appeared 60.2% in 2010, respectively. Bycatch was highest in 2008 and lowest in 2009. In general, the bycatch was occurred from May to July every year and when Scomber japonicus was most dominant in the catch price by bycatch had a advantage in the profit side. However, the catch increase of immature small fishes by the bycatch, which will bring about the decrease of fisheries resources. Finally, the present state in set net fisheries will act as a defect on the long-term management of fisheries resources.

  • Fish catch by a set net in Hamdeuk fishing ground off Jeju Island were studied to determine seasonal variation of species composition and catch from 1998 to 2000. A total 72,022.9 kg was caught during the survey period, including Scomber japonicus and Trachurus japonicus of $76.4\%$ in the total. The other dominant species were Siganus fuscescens, Loligo chinesis, Seriola dumerili, Sepioteuthis lessoniana, Sardinops melanostictus, and Seriola lalandi accounting to $20.0\%$ of the total. The fishing period conducted by a set net in Hamdeuk fishing ground were from May to November. The catch by a set net were higher in summer than in spring and autumn and closely related with the seasonal variation of sea water temperature. The catch was higher in 1998 than In 1999 and 2000, which was related to the sea water temperature in fishing ground.

  • The fish behavior survey in the main-net of a large scale-net was carried out in relation to the catching function of the set-net. at Kishihata set-net in Japan during the period from January 29th to February 22th 1992. The results obtained are summarized as follows; 1. The greatest number of schools observation in the main-net occurred between 17 : 00hrs and 18 : 00hrs. after which the schools suddenly disappeared. This result show that the schools did not stay in the main-net. but immediately moved through into the bag-net or left the main-net. 2. The course of movement of the small schools of sardine in the main-net was in a straight line to the slope-net. However. upon arrived at the slope-net the school turned around. away from the slope-net and went directly towards the playground. 3. The majority of small schools of sardine in the main-net were estimated to move with the mode velocity 25cm/sec. however the maximum velocity were recorded 80cm/sec.

  • The moving behaviour of Yellowtail Seriola quinqueradiata schools in the main-net of a large scale set-net was investigated in relation to the catching function of the funnel-net by a scanning sonar. The investigation was took place in the Kishihata set-net fishing ground located in Nanao city Ishigawa prefecture, Japan from Nov. 9 to Nov. 13, 1992. The obtained results are summarized as follows; 1. Fish schools showed the greatest number at the playground in the morning and at the bag-net in the afternoon. The fish schools remained long time in the main-net. 2. The rate of fish school through the funnel-net was smaller than that of fish school which is though the playground and bag-net. Because the Yellowtail school changed the shape of school in passing the funnel-net. 3. The rate of entering the bag-net was 24%, among the fish school heading to the outer funnel-net. But, the rate of escaping to the playground was 27%, among the fish school heading to the inner funnel-net. It seems that the structure of the outer funnel-net was not enough to lead the fish to the bag-net. However, the structure of the inner funnel-net was very effective at preventing escape. 4. It is appropriate to haul the net in the morning in considering the number of accumulated fish in the bag-net during the survey.

  • A model experiment of purse seine by the circulating water tank was carried out on the changes of net shape and the tension of purseline under operation in two layer current. In the circular tank, the two layer current was made by cutting off the current of upper layer and producing the bottom current by the equipment shown in Fig. 1. The model experiment of purse sein was made on a reduced scale 1 :400, and the experiment was carried out according to the Tauti's model law. When the bottom current of O. 5 knot flows to lower part of three-eighths of net, following results are derived. The depth of sinkerline reached only about 80% of that of no current set. The horizontal shift of sinker line caused by the bottom current is maximized in tight set. The enclosed area by the floatIine immediately after the completion of set net is 61. 5% in tight set, 50. 0 % in loose set and 54. 1 % in lateral set of those in the case of no current. In the first half period of pursing, the tension of the purseline is enhenced by the bottom current and the pattern of increasing is irregular in the tension curves.
