  • 3D display of spacecraft motion by using telemetry data received from satellite in real-time is described. Telemetry data are converted to the appropriate form for 3-D display by the real-time preprocessor. Stored playback telemetry data also can be processed for the display. 3D display of spacecraft motion by using real telemetry data provides intuitive comprehension of spacecraft dynamics.

  • In this paper we prescribe a replication server scheme with an algorithm DRF (Differential Refresh File) to refresh multiple materialized views and replicas in distributed environments. Before sending relevant tuples in server sites to client sites, an effective tuple reduction scheme is developed as a preprocessor to reduce the transmission cost. Because it utilizes differential files with out touching base relations, the DRF scheme can help to minimize the number of locks, which enhances the system's performance.

  • An OptiNeural system is developed for optical pattern classification. It is a novel hybrid system which consists of an optical processor and a multilayer neural network. It takes advantages of two dimensional processing capability of an optical processor and nonlinear mapping capability of a neural network. The optical processor with a binary phase only filter is used as a preprocessor for feature extraction and the neural network is used as a decision system through mapping. OptiNeural system is trained for optical pattern classification by use of a simulated annealing algorithm. Its classification performance for grey tone texture patterns is excellent, while a conventional optical system shows poor classification performance.

  • In this letter, we propose a compact CORDIC processor for implementation of carrier frequency synchronization block in an OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) system. The compact CORDIC processor is proposed by using inherenct properties of an OFDM system for estimation and compensation of carrier frequency offset, and is composed of a compact CORDIC preprocessor and a compact CORDIC processor. The compact CORDIC preprocessor plays a role of normalizing input signal efficiently, and the compact CORDIC processor is proposed to perform the vectoring mode and rotational mode jointly in CORDIC operation for carrier frequency synchronization. It is shown by FPGA implementation that the proposed compact CORDIC processor can achieve better performance with a significantly reduced hardware complexity than the conventional CORDIC approach.

  • This paper presents adaptive execution techniques that determine whether parallelized loops are executed in parallel or sequentially in order to maximize performance. The adaptation and performance estimation algorithms are implemented in a compiler preprocessor. The preprocessor inserts code that automatically determines at compile-time or at run-time the way the parallelized loops are executed. Using a set of standard numerical applications written in Fortran77 and running them with our techniques on a distributed shared memory multiprocessor machine (SGI Origin2000), we obtain the performance of our techniques, on average, 26%, 20%, 16%, and 10% faster than the original parallel program on 32, 16, 8, and 4 processors, respectively. One of the applications runs even more than twice faster than its original parallel version on 32 processors.

  • Gear design carried in former type determined a few variables like module, pressure angle, helix angle. After investigating repeatedly results obtained through stress analysis and making a determination an optimal shape, but its design process was not only complex but also difficult to get a precise profile curve from operating by hand. In this study, rotating shape of gear profile curves were generated automatically with standard spur gear, equivalent helical gear, shifted gear & pinion by using developed program which is Auto_LISP language supported in Auto-CAD. Output tooth profile by using CAE program is applied as Preprocessor for stress analysis in each contact points. This program which can be determined rapidly an optimal shape of gear will be successfully supported for Small & Medium companies designing and manufacturing gears by using Auto-CAD.

  • This paper proposes a novel face recognition algorithm to recognize human face robustly under various conditions, such as changes of pose, illumination, and expression, etc. at indoor environments. A conventional automatic face recognition system consists of the detection and the recognition part. Generally, the detection part is dominant over the other part in the estimating whole recognition rate. So, in this paper, we suggest the view-specific eigenface method as preprocessor to estimate various poses of the face in the input image. Then, we apply the Enhanced FLD Models (EFM) to the result of it, twice. Because, the EFM recognizes human face, and reduces the error of standardization effectively. To deal with view-varying problem, we build one basis vector set for each view individually. Finally, the dimensionalities of ...

  • In this paper, we present two types of digital image stabilization (DIS) schemes for mobile video communications. In the first scheme, the DIS system, which is used as a preprocessor of the video encoder, compensates the camera’s undesirable shakes before encoding. This method can reduce the bit rate of encoded video sequence by attenuating the prediction error to be encoded. In the second proposed scheme, the DIS system is coupled with the video decoder. The second scheme uses the K-means clustering algorithm to estimate the camera motion using motion vectors decoded from the received video stream. Simulation results show that the first scheme improves coding efficiency, while the second scheme is computationally efficient since it does not require motion estimation.
