  • This paper examines the New York Times' reaction to the 2010 Brazil-Turkey-Iran (BTI) nuclear deal, the very last diplomatic effort before the imposition of international sanctions track over the following years. The New York Times' (NYT) coverage of the deal is examined using the Critical Discourse Analytic (CDA) approach formulated by Teun van Dijk. The results show a strong bias against the BTI deal throughout the NYT's news coverage. The overarching theme in cover-age of the deal is the imputation of malignant intentions on the part of both Iran ("to kill time to further its nuclear weapons program") and Brazil and Turkey ("to advance their own business dealings with Iran and gaining international recognition"). Also, non-relevant information is used to imply a threat of Iranian development of nuclear weapons. Moreover, the NYT leaves almost totally "unsaid" that president Obama had asked Brazilian and Turkish leaders to go to Tehran and get this deal. Therefore, the NYT basically echoed, and legitimized, discursive practices of the U.S. government on the deal.

To do this, we applied the industry-related analysis, which is mainly used to analyze the economic ripple effects, to the fishing village new deal 300 project. The industry association analysis classifies the detailed project of the preliminary plan for the selection of the business into the software business such as the hardware business and the capacity enhancement in the construction field and analyzes the economic ripple effect through the inter-industry association. As a result, it is expected that the fishing village new deal 300 project will have a positive economic impact. When the total investment of 3 trillion won is invested in the project, it is estimated that the production inducement effect and the value added effect are 5,545.3 billion won and 2,102.7 billion won, respectively. In addition, 62,005 get job inducements, where 10,952 employment inducements were associated with job creation. The analysis of the above impacts seems to have secured the logical justification for the implementation of the fishing village new deal 300 project.

  • The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the performance of New Deal under the New Labour government in Britain and examines the nature of New Deal with respect to workfare. The time difference of five years after the New Deal was put into effect shows that New Deal has contributed not only to include the socially excluded groups such as the young unemployed, the long-term unemployed, single parents, and the disabled into the labour market, but also to decrease the amount of income-based benefits providing for working generation. It can be said that the nature of New Deal under the New Labour is near to human capital development model rather than labour force attachment model. New Deal provides the opportunity of policy learning for the countries which pursue the reform of social security system to moving welfare beneficiaries being able to work into jobs. Policy learning can be summed up as follows. First, imposing mutual responsibility and obligations on unemployed person should be accompanied by implementing active labour market programmes of education and job training. Second, the delivery system which administrates workfare programmes should be decentralized in a local society. The cooperation between local government and enterprisers will be critical in implementing various employment programmes and moving unemployed person into jobs. Third, the case management for individual participating in workfare programme is necessary. The personal adviser should continue to provide employment services for the unemployed until he or she get a job and enter the state of self-reliance. Finally, the workfare programme should be firmly backed by the political leadership in order to overcome the oppositions of beneficiary groups under the existing social security system.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the status and limitations of the activation plan as a result of the change in urban regeneration paradigm. In particular, the change in housing life was considered following the guidelines of the New Deal project. Specifically, the three types - General Neighborhood, Housing Support, and DongneSaligi - were analyzed from the perspective of organization, space and program. In addition, the master plan and unit project, the organization and progress, and the budget plan were reviewed. As a result, the New Deal project for urban regeneration is importance on economic regeneration, which, unlike the integrated and continuous guide proposed by the government, could limit the individual progress of transitional organizations, 2-dimensional planing and various programs. Thus, first, in order to supplement the organization's verticality and inefficiency in progress, the annual business assessment should be discouraged and the permit and progress of the project should be determined at the local government level. Second, integrated and multidimensional planning is necessary to produce synergy effects in the physical environment. Finally, the link between program unit projects and the economic effects can be considered.
