Study on the Relationship between the Pay TV Subscriber's Genre Preference and VOD Purchase : Focusing on the Movie VOD of IPTV Service (<유료 방송 가입자의 장르 선호도와 VOD 구매의 관계에 관한 연구:IPTV 영화 VOD 이용을 중심으로>)

  • This paper investigates the relationship between the Pay TV subscriber's genre preference and VOD purchase by analyzing actual purchase data of movie VOD of IPTV subscribers for 8 months. The result shows as follows. First, in case of purchasing movie contents below 4000 won, user's genre preference was higher than that of using contents over 4,000 won. This means the subscribers tend to follow their genre preference when the mass-typed recommendation is limited. Second, those who purchase foreign contents show higher genre preference than those who purchase domestic movies. Third, subscribers who purchase more frequently and much more tend to use more diverse genres. Heavy users or those who have higher willingness to pay would consume more diverse contents. It implies that VOD use would increase by supplying the personal recommendation service based on the subscriber's genre preference.

Determinants of the Users' Intention to Retain the Monthly Movie Subscription VOD in the Pay-TV:A Dual Model of Dedication-Based and Constraint-Based Mechanisms (유료방송 영화 VOD 월정액 서비스 이용자의 가입유지의도에 영향을 미치는 요인에 관한 연구: 자의기반과 구속기반 메커니즘의 이원적 모형을 중심으로)

  • This study investigates the factors influencing to users' intention to retain monthly movie subscription VOD service in the Pay-TV. A dual model of a dedication-based mechanism and constraint-based mechanism used as the analytical framework for the service subscription retention. This study surveyed the total of 366 respondents who aged 15 years or older among the subscribers who use monthly movie subscription VOD service in Pay-TV from May 8 to May 14, 2018 through online surveys. And the study used SPSS 25 and AMOS 21 for data analysis. The results of the analysis are as follows. First, the price, the contents diversity and the ease of use were found to affect the user satisfaction. From three components, the price is the most effective and the ease of use is the next. Second, user satisfaction were found to affect the intention to retain a subscription in the dedication-based mechanism. Third, procedural switching cost were found to affect the intention to retain a subscription in the constraint-base mechanism.

Performance Analysis of Service Model in Parallel VOD system (병렬 VOD 시스템에서 서비스 모델의 성능분석)

  • Media service model is divided into 3 models that are Client Pull, Server Push, and IPP(Interleaving Pull & Push) model. In most single VOD(Video On Demand) environment, Client Pull model was sufficient to play the movie Because most media contents has a low bitrate and resolution. But according to an increment of the demand of the high definition media, Client Pull model is not sufficient. Parallel VOD environment is made of several of VOD servers and provides the parallel media stream simultaneously for one client. We compared and analyzed the performance of service models with respect to network delay and data size in buffer in the single and parallel VOD environment and we found that IPP service model keeps the least network delay and stable client buffer state in the parallel VOD environment.

The Distribution Structure of the Internet Movie and Spatial Clustering of the Internet Movie Industry (인터넷 영화의 유통구조와 인터넷 영화산업의 공간적 집적화)

  • The purpose of this study were to examine the spatial distribution and locational characteristics of the Internet movie industry, to seize the value chains of the Internet movie industry and distribution structure of the internet movies, and to analyze the vertical-horizontal linkages of the Internet movie firms and their spatial clustering. Recently, the Internet movie industry has developed rapidly due to the development of techniques related to movie contents, the broadband Internet and a wide expansion of the high speed communication network and the increase of demands on movie contents. It has been found that 74$\%$ of the Internet movie industry was concentrated in Seoul. Especially this industry was quite agglomerated in several dongs of Gangnam-gu such as Yoeksam, Nonhyeon, Daechi and Samseung. The proximity of the same or similar business firms was the primary locational factors that influenced on the Internet movie industry, followed by other factors such as convenience of transportation, the reputation of the place, and proximity of technically supporting firms. The Internet movie industry had the valve chain composed of 'contents suppliers $\rightarrow$ contents distributors $\rightarrow$ service providers', However, there were also a complex network of the VOD copyright owner, VOD syndicator, and service providers in each category of the value chain. This research clearly revealed that the localized clustering has been formed with the movie contents providers, technically supporting firms, client firms, and cooperative-affiliated business firms related to the Internet movie industry, Additionally, a very intimate network has been established within the clustering, inducing the enlargement of the market and decrease of costs, the co-sharing of tacit knowledge, and the synergy effect.

  • D-CATV VOD service provides various contents such as drama and movie with high quality regardless of time and place. As the usage time of the VOD service increases, the viewing time of real-time terrestrial broadcasting is shortened. As the demand for VOD service is high and the number of digital users is increasing, the VOD market is rapidly growing. Therefore this study investigates the age and gender analysis of digital cable TV users and analyzed the usage patterns and audience cases of users. VOD service has been shown to be used by many users for the first time through remote control and free coupons. Non-users of VOD service did not use it because of charge and did not feel the necessity, but some non-users did not recognize the free VOD service.

  • In this paper, based on the relative logical storage cost of each movie by the difference of service request probability, we propose and implement the SDU(Separate Data Use) method and the EDU(Existing Data Use) method to provide FF(Fast Forward) and FR(Fast Reverse) function in efficiently through analysing MPEG bit stream and frame characteristics. By selecting and applying the FF/FR function providing method based on the service request probability of movie, the proposed method can reduce the cost of FF/FR functions for total serviced movies.

  • This study deals with the effects of the extension of terrestrial TV VOD holdback on the viewing behavior focusing on IPTV & digital cable TV. And this study presents the implication by analyzing a time series trend of the digital media service. Thus researcher has analyzed the VOD performance trend of IPTV & digital cable TV, based on the real data of media player's internal fact sheet. First, researcher confirmed that the repetition of the peak value goes to January and August seasonally. Also, it was confirmed that the viewing rate of terrestrial broadcasting companies is affected by the hit drama program. And researcher confirmed that the terrestrial VOD, movie and kids VOD, and terrestrial VOD purchases is falling down by analyzing a time series relationship. Terrestrial broadcasting companies did an extension of the holdback for the purpose of trying to increase the viewership of the broadcast, but it was confirmed that it was reduced both purchasing desire VOD viewing and viewing of the broadcast audience rather. Thus the researcher expect the customer familiar policy of media players in the future.

  • Video-on-demand is an interactive service that provides programs (movie, home shopping, etc.) to users connected to a network. This service will require high bandwidth network and video servers with a large amount of storage capacity. From the viewpoint of system analysis, there are optimization problems to be solved. In this paper, we present a dynamic programming method for allocating the storage for programs being served in a multi-level video-on-demand network. In the optimization of the network resource, we consider the three kinds of costs: installation cost for video servers, program storage cost, and transmission (or communication) cost. The factors related to the costs are investigated. An example is shown to illustrate the proposed method.
