  • Recently as a people recognize a safety more about a high and large buildings the importance of a fire-damper which supplies fresh air into the building in case of fire increases greatly. Therefore, in this paper a fire-damper using a micro-controller is designed and fabricated. In the design of fire-damper a pressure sensor is modeled as a capacitor and the p-spice is used as a circuit simulator PIC16F72 is used as a micro-controller to drive a pressure sensor and to display a pressure value from the pressure sensor and to drive a motor to open and close a damper. A photo-coupler is used to protect a motor from a overcurrent.

  • The pressurized smoke control system is important for fire safety in building because it is directly concerned with egress time of people. Even though the damper plays an essential role in the pressurized smoke control system, the phenomena of backflow smoke occurs for a certain the damper position. The research for a position of damper effects on distribution of air flow at the fire door is not performed. In this study, numerical simulation using FDS 5.5 was carried out to analyze the effect of the position of damper on flow distribution at the fire door. To simulate real situation, effects of opening and closing of fire door was considered. As a result, when HRR was between 200 kW and 400 kW, in the case which the damper was on the opposite wall of the fire door, the back flow to the vestibules was large compared to the two other cases of damper position. But when HRR was above 400 kW, Effect on damper position was not occurred.

  • In this paper, fire resistance test was carried out to obtain class H-120 thermal insulation of fire dampers according to a hydrocarbon fire conditions. Specimens were fabricated three different types according to the change of the insulation system applied to damper blade and coaming which were measured surface temperature by performing the fire resistance test. As a test result, specimen-1, 2 of an uninsulated damper blade were exceeded thermal insulation acceptance criteria at 21 minutes, 46 minutes respectively, but specimen-3 of an insulated damper blade was satisfied thermal insulation acceptance criteria during 120 minutes. The test results showed that the insulation of the damper blade was an important factor in the fireproof performance of fire dampers concerning the coaming length minimum 500 mm on the unexposed side as specified test standard.

  • In this study, numerical simulations were performed on the air egress velocity of pressurization systems in an ancillary room when a fire occurred in an apartment house. The relationship between the air supply flow rate of a damper and air egress velocity at a fire door is predicted to be linear. Additionally, a minimum flow rate of the damper, which meets national fire safety standards for air egress velocity, i.e., 0.7 m/s can be estimated. Air egress velocity at the fire door is analyzed according to the supply air direction and installation height of the damper. When the damper has an upward supply air direction and is installed at a high level, the egress velocity at the top section of the fire door is larger, whereas the soot concentration at the ancillary room is lower than when the supply direction of the damper is downward. Therefore, it is found that increasing the air egress velocity at the top section of the fire door helps to efficiently prevent the inflow of smoke.

  • This study developed a ventilation damper that can control flow rate according to pressure differential variation of the smoke control room in order to improve problems related to existing smoke management systems and maximizing performance of smoke management systems. The development damper was tested for verification of utility and performance. The supply flow of the developed ventilation damper was increased by about 1 to 5%. The results prove the effectiveness of the flow control ventilation damper by providing stable flow over the designed flow of the fan in the smoke control room. In addition, the study acquired the original technology for a flow control ventilation damper.
