  • As the damage to fine dust increased, the Republic of Korea designated fine dust as a social disaster. The composition of the fine dust is composed of carbon, sulfate, nitrate, ammonium and minerals. The cause of fine dust is naturally generated by dirt, pollen, etc. In addition, there are artificial causes such as gaseous vehicle exhaust gas emitted from the use of fossil fuel. When fine dust enters the human body through breathing, it causes various respiratory diseases and skin diseases. In IARC, fine dust was designated as a carcinogen group 1. In this research, we tried to adsorb fine dust by physical adsorption using powdered activate carbon. Powdered activate carbon is a powdered activated carbon activated in a carbonized state. Porous material with high specific surface area and low density. Experimental items were tested for density, water absorption, and fine dust concentration according to the PAC addition ratio. Basic experiments were carried out to fabricate the fine dust adsorption matrix.

  • Recently, as the amount of fine dust has risen rapidly, our interest is increasing day by day. It is virtually impossible to remove fine dust. However, it is best to predict the concentration of fine dust and minimize exposure to it. In this study, we developed a mathematical model that can predict the concentration of fine dust using various information related to the weather and air quality, which is provided in real time in 'Air Korea (http://www.airkorea.or.kr/)' and 'Weather Data Open Portal (https://data.kma.go.kr/).' In the mathematical model, various domestic seasonal variables and atmospheric state variables are extracted by multiple regression analysis. The parameters that have significant influence on the fine dust concentration are extracted, and using ANN (Artificial Neural Network) and SVM (Support Vector Machine), which are machine learning techniques, we proposed a prediction model. The proposed model can verify its effectiveness by using past dust and weather big data.

  • The construction industry is known to be one of the representative industries that generate fine dust. Therefore, reducing the amount of fine dust generated in construction sites is very important for the overall fine dust management. Based on this, this study proposed the concept of fine dust measurement and removal technology combined with advanced technologies such as drones and IoT. The qualitative, quantitative and risk elimination effects that can be expected when applying the proposed technique are analyzed. We will verify the effectiveness of the proposed concept through system development and field application, and evaluate specific economic feasibility through cost analysis. The proposed concept will be validated through system development and field application and evaluated specific economics through cost analysis.

  • Fine dust, which is emerging as a global problem, attracted much attention recently in Korea. One of the reasons is that recent factory relocation and expansion in China affected the increase of domestic fine dust concentration due to the influence of the Yangtze river battalion and westerlies. Fine dust is a big problem not only in outdoor but also indoors. The room requires periodic ventilation and is also essential for improving indoor air quality. The fine dusts are designated as Group 1 carcinogens in WHO and the risk of fine dusts on the human body due to respiratory diseases is also increasing. In this study, the characteristics of the fine dust adsorption matrix are examined and the actual application direction is derived.

  • When measuring fine dust at a large-scale site such as complex construction, the change in the value of fine dust measurement is large due to the influence of the time, location, wind speed, wind direction, and humidity. This study aims to find out the results of measuring fine dust in an actual construction site and inferring the changes.

  • As of 2018, a large amount of Chinese fine dust is flowing into Korea in westerlies. However, the amount of fine dust generated in Korea can not be ignored. Even 52% of the causes of fine dust are domestic factors. Especially in Seoul, where the population is densely populated, the dust levels are high enough to be comparable to other regions. In Seoul, the dust levels are different from each other district. In order to understand the difference of fine dust generation by distinction, it is judged based on the highest traffic volume among the causes of fine dust generation in Seoul. Comparing the traffic volume and the fine dust concentration in 2017, it is possible to know the effect of traffic volume actually, how much it affects.

  • The gradual desertification in Northeastern China brought about by the industrial development and global warming, has affected the Korean peninsula as evident by the ultrafine dust geographically and seasonally. People with severe respiratory problems, senior citizens and the infants are susceptible to the ill effects of fine dust which could prove fatal to them. Hence, we need to study the root cause of fine dust emergence and the correlation verification between fine dust and its side effects. This study firstly analyzed clean and contaminated areas classified by industrial elements. We utilized air, weather and industrial data in the area. Next, we detected a change of fine dust in terms of weather and climate. We analyzed correlation of air and weather by influence from domestic and neighboring country. The result indicated that China is the culprit of the emergence of fine dust predicament. Consequently, we can prove that fine dust ($PM_{10}$) and ultrafine dust ($PM_{2.5}$) could arise from geographical, seasonal, and pollutant elements. Therefore, we propose the optimum to make countermeasures about fine dust in terms of industry, topography, population and living residence.

  • In this study, the last 10 years of news data on fine dust was collected and 80 topics are selected through LDA analysis. As a result, weather-related information made up the main words for the topic, and we can see that fine dust becomes a big issue below 10 degrees Celsius. The frequency of exposure to the media and the maximum concentration of fine dust are correlated with positive. Topics related to fine dust reduction measures and the government's comprehensive measures over the past decade, topics related to products such as air purifiers related to fine dust, topics related to policies protecting vulnerable people from fine dust, and topics on fine dust reduction through R&D were found to be major topics. Measures against fine dust as a social issue can be seen to be closely related to the government's policy.

  • Recently, the problem of air pollution is drawing attention as a social problem worldwide. Particularly, fine dust is the biggest issue among air pollutants, and it is analyzed that fine dust is generated from air pollutants such as burning fossil fuels such as petroleum or coal, or exhaust gases from automobiles. In addition, yellow dust originating from China adjacent to Korea flows into the Korean Peninsula in a western wind, causing the concentration of fine dust to deteriorate. Fine dust is a harmful substance to the human body such as asthma or respiratory disease, and awareness of the risk is also increasing to a degree designated as a primary carcinogen. In this study, as a method for improving the indoor air quality, the Properties of the matrix according to the mixing ratio of powdered activated carbon based on blast furnace slag are reviewed. The flexural strength and compressive strength were measured, and a fine dust concentration measurement experiment will be conducted later.

  • Fine dust aerated in the atomsphere penetrates our lungs and blood lines through respiratory. Recent fine dust problems in Korea leads to development of various air purifiers. The researchers used this to study systems that could replace chemical filters. In order to compare the effect of the reduction of moss and conventional chemical filter(Hepa), a 1 cubic meter cube was prepared and the amount of the concentration of fine dust reduction was compared under controlled environment. Under the high concentration of fine dust, a test was done to figure out the reduction rate of the fine dust concentration by using air purification system with moss, hepa, and no filter. The air purification system(moss, hepa, and no filter) were operated 90 times in total, 30 times each. The test explains that the reduction of the fine dust amount and the rate of fine dust concentration. The results illustrate that the reduction of the amount fine dust was 138.93 after using air purification system with moss filter. In contrast, the usage of air purification system with hepa filter reduced the amount of fine dust to 76.57. And the air purification with no filter shows that the slight reduction of fine dust amount at 0.10. In the rate of fine dust concentration, moss filter was significantly higher than that of hepa, no filter (0.2379, 0.1298 and 0.0063 each). The results have confirmed that moss is effective in reducing fine dust concentration, and it is expected that with further improvement it can be used as a means to replace or supplement existing chemical filters in air purifier.
