  • In this study, the flow effect of warming and cooling in the air supply of a pit for air conditioning were evaluated in BS art museum. We simulated the flow temperature for a pit winter and summer seasons using computational fluid dynamics. Consequential, energy saving, energy saving costs and initial payback periods were calculated and the following conclusions were drawn. The warming effect of the winter increased by $18.1^{\circ}C$ and $0.2^{\circ}C/m$ and the cooling effect of the summer decreased by $6.1^{\circ}C$ and dropped to $0.07^{\circ}C/m$. Energy saving appeared to be 19.1 kW in the summer and 54.3 kW in winter. Energy saving costs ranged from 2,567,119 won/year to 5,134,238 won/year and at minimum, initial payback period for initial investment was 3.9 years. As a result, the air supply system using an existing pit without any burden on initial investment costs is believed to contribute to energy saving through warming and cooling of unutilized energy effects.

  • Recently design standard for energy-saving in apartment buildings has been consolidated gradually on the basis of evaluation and certification standards of energy efficiency of buildings, the energy-saving policy of building at home and abroad. Performance criteria for thennal insulation as well as fenestration has been progressively enhanced, and performance criteria for ventilation and airtightness of the building have also been re-developed. Therefore, heating and cooling load characteristics of the apartment building can be changed. For the design of the upcoming heating and cooling equipment in apartment buildings, it is necessary to evaluate the heating and cooling load characteristics according to the design strategies for energy saving in apartment buildings. As a result, in this study, it is intended to use as a resource for analyzing the impact that the adoption of energy-saving design variables for each of the apartment buildings, to predict the heating and cooling load characteristics in the apartment building.

  • A energy saving device "Crown duct" has been developed and its efficiency gain has been verified experimentally in the towing tank of SSPA. The preswirl stator is well known as one of energy saving devices, which recovering the rotational energy of propeller slipstream. Crown duct has two functions of recovers the rotational energy by three blades on top of duct and of flow concentration by semi-duct. The model tests showed 4.4% efficiency gain with Crown Duct at full load condition and 6.9% at ballast condition compared with the bare hull ones for the middle class tanker.

  • It is difficult to apply a design standard uniformly to university buildings because various education courses are conducted. However, a design guideline for saving energy is necessary in order to prepare for low-energy days. A library in any university is one of the buildings that a lot of people use and most of the energy is spent. Therefore, the investigation on the energy savings of library facilities is very important and urgent. This study finally presents the design guideline of those facilities for low-energy. In this paper, the trend of space layout, utilization schedule and performance of materials are investigated, and the impact on energy savings and effective energy saving strategies are analyzed and illustrated by energy simulation. As a result of energy analysis from the case of 'H' university, it is confirmed that the utilization schedule effects mostly to energy consumption and the layout and orientation of the rooms in the library are the major parameters. Among the investigated saving strategies, green roofs are found as the most effective part for heating energy savings, and outdoor air cooling is known as the most effective method for cooling energy savings.

  • The present society have been polluted the earth environment by the rapid industrial growth. So, the meaning of sustainable development is doing more important. Therefore the technology skills of sustainable architecture techniques have been studied many-side of energy as like energy saving and substitutive energy. But, See the studies until now, there have been just one system either energy saving or substitutive energy. So, the paper studies about energy saving system with substitutive energy system(the double-skin facade system with PV modules) and presents the performance of system through the analysis of reduction of the energy load, the solar radiation on the slope angle of PV module, the blind effect in system.

  • Since 1970s, energy-saving design criteria of buildings has been improved through numerous revisions. The purpose of this research is to show how energy saving design criteria affects heating energy consumption of apartments using district heating. Heating energy consumption has been measured in 4 apartments located in Gyeonggi province, Korea from Nov. 1,2007 through Oct. 31, 2008. Collected data was regressed to linear correlations. Heating energy consumptions were calculated for past, present and future energy-saving design criteria, which are outdoor temperature, ventilation and insulation. The results show that present design criteria has reduced heating energy consumption by 15%, and the future criteria will reduce the energy consumption by 42% compared to the criteria before 2001.

  • In conventional air-handling units, when the circulated air from the air-conditioned space pass through the cooling coil, the air is over-cooled to eliminate the moisture as well as to decrease the temperature. The purpose of this study is to estimate the thermal performance and energy saving of the cooling/reheating system using heat exchanger which can save both cooling energy and reheating energy by exchanging heat between the cooled air and reheated air. The energy balance equations to estimate the state of the air for each components were provided and the heat transfer rates and the energy saving rates for the system were calculated from the equations. The results showed that the energy saving was up to 40% under present conditions, and saving rates were significantly affected by the air velocity, inlet conditions and the effectiveness of heat exchanger.

  • VR and AR are widely used in many applications to provide more immersive visualization and natural interaction for learning and experiencing virtual but realistic tasks. Energy saving is considered as one of the most important issues throughout the world in order to overcome global warming and energy crisis. In particular, the awareness of home energy saving is regarded as a first step to deal with this issue. In this paper, we suggest a new learning environment using virtual and augmented reality (VR/AR) for home energy saving experience. In particular, it presents a comparative study of the user experience in home energy awareness using immersive virtual reality and mobile augmented reality. The first person user experience using immersive VR wearing head mounted display (HMD) and the third person user experience using mobile AR are implemented and systematically compared with each other in terms of the learning effect of energy saving and qualitative usability. Implementation results will be given to show the advantage and effectiveness of the proposed approach.
