The Program development and assessment for increasing EQ (Emotional Quotient) for Children (정서지능(EQ) 향상 교육프로그램 개발과 평가)

  • The purpose of this study was development and verification of the emotional intelligence program for children. Developed program was labeled "Increasing the Power of Mind." This program consists of four parts-sensitivity, self-esteem, motivation, and communication skills. Each parts consists of eight activities. The program was practiced at susung elementary school in Jung up. The subjects were 79 sixth-grade children. The effectiveness of the program has been evaluted by taking pre and past tests. The test results suggest that the program has been effective in improving the children's emotional intelligence on all of the following areas, such as sensitivity, self-esteem, motivation, and communication skills.

The Emotional Intelligence, Defense Mechanism and Interpersonal Caring Behavior by Enneagram Personality Types in Nursing Students (에니어그램 성격유형에 따른 간호대학생의 정서지능, 방어기제와 대인돌봄행위)

  • Purpose: This study was to identify the emotional intelligence, defense mechanism and interpersonal caring behavior by enneagram personality types in nursing students. Methods: A descriptive survey design was used and data were collected using questionnaires from a sample of 263 nursing students. The data were analyzed using by t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient analysis with SPSS 20.0. Results: In the enneagram personality types, the nursing students was highly measured the type 9(Peacemaker). Emotional intelligence was significantly associated with financial status of parents, motivation of admission and satisfaction of nursing by enneagram characters. Hoping and sharing of interpersonal caring behaviors were significantly differentiated with the power type of enneagram personality. And active listening, comforting, participating of interpersonal caring behaviors were the most popular among the 9 types of personality. There was a positive correlation between emotional intelligence and interpersonal caring behavior. Conclusion: This study suggest that nursing students should be educated the interpersonal caring behavior program considering emotional intelligence and enneagram personality types.

A Study on the Effect of the Empathy Reading Education on Empathy Ability and Emotional Intelligence (공감독서교육이 공감능력과 정서지능에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to develop an empathy reading education program and to investigate the effects of elementary school students on empathy ability and emotional intelligence. First, in order to select realistic empathy topics for the empathy reading education program, 10 specialist groups were selected and the focus group interview was conducted as well. 10 expert in the development of the empathy reading education program and 12 experts for selecting the importance of the empathy reading education textbook verified the reliability and validity through Delphi investigation and analysis. Second, in order to verify the effects, the empathy reading education program was studied and conducted on 104 grade 5 students in 'A' elementary school in U city, Gyeonggi-do. In conclusion, the empathy reading education program has a positive effect on the empathy ability and emotional intelligence of elementary school students.

The Effect of Carbohydrate Processed Snacks on Middle School Students' Emotional Intelligence (경기 일부 중학생의 당류 간식 섭취가 정서지능에 미치는 영향)

  • Adequate nutrients intake and regular eating habit are so important for the students to develop physical and mental health, and they contribute significantly for the development of intellectual capacity. The intake of simple sugar contained in the processed foods is known to have been related not only with such physical problems as obesity and diabetes but also with hyperactivity during growing period. This study analysed the effects of carbohydrate processed snacks on the middle school students' emotional intelligence and intended to demonstrate the correlation and the influence of the foods. The subjects of this study were 476 the 1st grade middle school students sampled from two public middle schools of Gyeonggi Province, Korea. Questionnaire contained 47 questions including the kinds of sugar containing processed foods, the frequency of intake, the frequency of normal diet, and the emotional test. All data obtained in this study were processed by SAS 8.2 program. 77.9% of the students had snacks more than once a day and the favored foods were in the order of bread, cookies, fruit, milk and dairy products, flour foods, ramen and ice cream. Less of the sugar contained processed snacks consumed high emotional intelligence showed(p<0.001). And low intake of carbohydrate processed snacks linked with having more regular meals and the higher levels of emotional intelligence. There was no gender difference in consuming simple sugar containing processed foods, however, out of these foods, carbonated drinks, ramen and pizza affected significantly the emotional intelligence of the male students. It was found that sugar contained processed snacks affect the eating habits like meal skipping and the emotional intelligence. It is determined that the effects of carbohydrate processed snacks on emotional intelligence can not be denied.

  • Background: The aims of this paper is to investigate the moderating effect of emotional intelligence on the relationship between emotional labor and job satisfaction of hotel employees and to find a way to increase job satisfaction of them. Methods: This study is a cross-sectional empirical study conducted for hotel employees in Korea. A total of 314 completed responses were collected and analyzed. Hierarchical regression analysis was employed to test the hypotheses. Results: Emotional dissonance decrease job satisfaction, but emotional effort improves it. "Ability to understand emotion" and "ability to understand others' emotion" are moderating factors that increase job satisfaction joining with emotional effort. Conclusions: In order for hotel employees to be satisfied with their jobs, it is necessary to develop and implement an emotional intelligence improvement education program that can improve job satisfaction by positively moderating emotional labor.

  • The age of the $4^{th}$ Industrial revolution characterized with artificial intelligence leads to increased interest in emotional aspects representing humanity as counterpart competence to the digital literacy, As the educational model to foster emotional intelligence, noticed is 'maker education based on design thinking process,' since it cultivates the spirits of empathy, intuitive thinking, collaboration, communication, sharing, and openness. In this context, this study aimed to examine relationship between the educational model and emotional intelligence. For this purpose, a case study has been conducted with 37 undergraduate students in an University general education class, and the results of data collection and analysis confirmed positive influences of the program in enhancing most components of the emotional intelligence.

Relationships between nursing competency and emotional intelligence and nurse role transition of nursing students (간호대학생의 간호역량 및 감성지능과 간호사 역할 이행의 관계)

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the relationships between nursing competency and emotional intelligence and nurse role transition of nursing students. Study participants were 134 nursing students of university in Chungnam province. Data were collected with the use of self-administered questionnaires from November 1 to December 10, 2018. Collected data were analyzed using the IBM SPSS 20.0 program. Nurse role transition of nursing students showed positive correlation with nursing competency(r=.79, p<.001) and emotional intelligence(r=.59, p<.001). Factors influencing nurse role transition of nursing students were nursing competency(${\beta}=.66$, p<001) and emotional intelligence(${\beta}=.22$, p=.001), which accounted 67.8%. These results indicate that various educational programs to increase nursing competency and emotional intelligence of nursing students are needed to increase nurse role transition. Studies on the effectiveness of provided programs are also needed to provide more effective programs.

Relationships between body type perception and emotional intelligence and sexual assertiveness of female college students (여대생의 체형인식 및 감성지능과 성적자기주장의 관계)

  • This study was conducted to identify the relationships between body type perception and emotional intelligence and sexual assertiveness of female college students. The study participants were 288 nursing students of two universities in Chungnam province. Data were collected by a self-administered questionnaire from March 1 to May 20, 2017. Collected data were analyzed using the IBM SPSS 20.0 program. The higher the emotional intelligence, the higher the sexual assertiveness(r=.25, p<.001), but sexual assertiveness according to body type perception were not significant. Factors influencing sexual assertiveness were religion, time of first relationship, body mass index, and emotional intelligence, which accounted 18.7%. Therefore, interventions for improving sexual assertiveness of female college students should include interventions for improving emotional intelligence. Studies on the relationship between body type perception and sexual assertiveness of female college students should be conducted.

The Effects of Emotional Intelligence, Nursing Work Environment on Nursing Work Performance in Clinical Nurses (임상간호사의 감성지능과 간호근무환경이 간호업무성과에 미치는 영향)

  • This study aimed to identify the effect of emotional intelligence, nursing work environment on nursing performance in clinical nurses. Data were collected through a self-report questionnaire for 222 subjects and analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, and multiple regression with SPSS WIN 22.0 program. The results showed that nursing performance had significant correlations with emotional intelligence and nursing work environment. Also, the influencing factors on nursing performance were emotional intelligence, age, nursing satisfaction, nursing work environment, and nursing unit. These factors explained 50.0% of variance. Therefore, emotional intelligence, age, nursing satisfaction, nursing work environment, and nursing unit should be considered in developing and applying an nursing interventions program to improve the nursing performance among clinical nurses.

Relationships among Bullying in Workplace, Burnout, and Emotional Intelligence of Korean Physician Assistant (PA) Nurses (전담간호사의 직장 내 괴롭힘과 소진, 감성지능간의 관계)

  • The intention of this study was to investigate relationship of PA (Physician Assistant) nurses' workplace bullying, burnout and emotional intelligence. Research respondents were 150 PA nurses who are working at 19 different hospitals from 5 cities and provinces and the collected data were analyzed with SPSS 21.0 program. This study discovered that 20.7% of PA nurses had experienced workplace bullying and 54.7% had witnessed workplace bullying. The workplace bullying scored 2.14 (on a 4-point scale), emotional intelligence scored 4.88 (on a 7-point scale), and burnout scored 3.22 (on a 7-point scale). As a result of correlation analysis, as workplace bullying was higher, the level of burnout was greater, while as the emotional intelligence was higher, the level of burnout was lower. Thus, there is a need for improvement plan for bullying in workplace to alleviate PA nurses' burnout and strategy to improve emotional intelligence and develop education and program.
