  • The purpose of this research is to systemize the fashion digital storytelling by analyzing the communication method and its elements, and extracting the characteristics and processes of digital storytelling. Based on the previous study on the characteristics and types of storytelling the following things have been researched: 1) the process of digital storytelling in the communication process, 2) the concept and the feature of the academia of digital storytelling 3) storytelling in the document research. On the groundwork of the document research, we were able to sort out the various types, and formed a system of the features in the fashion digital storytelling cases, mainly in the four collections (Milan, Paris, London, New York) from 2000's to recent years of 2010. The types of fashion digital storytelling are episode type, narrative type, and creative type. The characteristics of each of the types are as follows. Firstly, the episode type communicates through the digital media based on the information or fact of the fashion designer brand. Secondly, narrative type communicates with the consumers using previous literature or an existing idea of the original cultural form that is rearranged in digital story expressed by the digital media. Lastly, creative type makes the designer's and consumer's susceptibility and creativity communicate through the newly made story, which expresses the unique originality of the designer. It seems that the cases and studies of using the fashion digital storytelling will increase because of its short history and lack of the case study. Fashion designer brands will show their brand image using the digital storytelling because they are able to better express originality, creativity and imagination of the fashion designer, which were factors that could not be conveyed through fashion alone.

Through digital storytelling activities, students can enhance competencies such as creativity, communication, critical thinking and collaboration, which are required for the digital generation in the future. The purpose of this research was to develop a digital storytelling model that guides students' activities related to the planning of a story and the creation of a digital material. The model classified 4 stages of activities(i.e. 'Preparing Activity', 'Planning and Composing a Story', 'Producing Storytelling Material' and 'Making a Presentation and Evaluating Storytelling Material'), and provided instructional guidances for each stage. Also various forms were presented for story planning, story table, evaluation among students and individual reflection journal.

  • A game story that used to be free needs a work of concrete and artificial organizing and arranging these days. This is because a game story is frequently made into a new genre such as a movie or an animation. As shown in many previous studies, most of the movies made from successful digital games failed to receive satisfying box office results. To overcome this, narratively completed storytelling should be presented from the development phase of a game. The methods are as follows: It is necessary to maximize the synergy effect through the interaction between storytelling experts, game developers, animators, and movie producers in developing a game. This will help to create a game with more sophisticated and complete narrative structure than now. It is necessary to secure the diversification of game genres. Currently in Korea, online games are unusually leading the game industry. PC games or console games are more advantageous than online games for putting a finished narrative structure into a game.

  • Due to the development of new digital technologies in recent years, consumers play different roles with compared to the past. Though they used to consume various existing contents, nowadays they have opportunities to use in user-friendly environment which can make them create and share their own contents. Under this circumstance, the digital storytelling has become a big issue in large area, and the web-based contents have been produced with diverse contests. In fact, the digital storytelling means a kind of storytelling method which is made by digital technologies and has been created under various circumstances. However, many researches concern that the digital storytelling is just applied for moving from analog to digital in terms of a tool, but in the reality it is far from the web 2.0 with collective intelligence. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a web-based collaborative digital storytelling platform that analysis user's action processes and components applying collective intelligence.

  • We proposed "Table Mediator" which is a tabletop system for digital storytelling that uses web-retrieved information for the students' educational field trip. Students can perform their storytelling for their virtual pre-field trip to build up a sequential path as a story with web-retrieved documents, satellite images, geographical information, and group discussion. The proposed system was designed to lessen the limitation of individual interaction such as restricted viewpoint and biased inclination by group digital storytelling. Local interactions also have the limitation such as insufficient information and knowledge and the system supplied the rich live information such as subjective critiques or recently discovered history, or new updates for building a story that makes users arrange their own idea as a consistent story to lessen the limitation of the local interactions. The system can be used for various applications such as travel, education and other collaborative works with group interaction.

  • The advancement of IT technology and the distribution of PC makes a change on the web contents expressions and user's experiments. The advanced web environment makes virtual web museum. We anticipate that demand of virtual web museum is likely to increase. However, most of studies on web museum are case studies about visual expression or graphic interface of virtual space. This paper will be considered about the functions of digital storytelling on web museum and try to develop an self-evaluation model which can evaluate the value of digital storytelling on web museum. The ultimate goal of this study is to verify the validity of the model to evaluate new storytelling of web museum and to classify the digital storytelling based on the evaluated results, with a view to presenting the direction of development by type. The results of this study may provide a reference of applying digital storytelling into web museum and also it can be a checklist for developing the user experience for navigating a web museum.
