  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the relationship among the factors of self-awareness, other-awareness and communication ability, and how they relate to communication ability in nursing students. Methods: For data collection 237 nursing students completed self-report questionnaires. Data were analyzed using independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficients, and stepwise multiple regression. Results: Self-awareness, other- awareness and communication ability of the participants showed moderate levels of self-awareness, other-awareness, and communication ability. There were significant positive correlations between self-awareness and communication ability (r=.59, p<.001). and between other-awareness and communication ability (r=.22, p=.001). Social anxiety, private self-awareness, and internal other-awareness were significant factors, which explained about 37% of the variance in communication ability. Conclusion: These findings suggest that a systematic and effective curriculum focused on self-awareness and other-awareness should be developed for nursing students in order to promote their communication ability.

  • This study identifies correlations between the use of media devices, communication ability, and executive function difficulties for third grade students, as well as investigates the moderating effect of a child's communication ability. Data from the 10th (2017) Panel Study on Korean Children [PSKC] was employed (N=557). Descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation and hierarchical regression were used along with SPSS 25.0(IBM Co., Armonk, NY, USA). The results were as follows. First, the executive function difficulties in the third-grade showed a significant positive correlation with media device use. While also, showing a negative correlation with a child's communication ability. Media devices use and communication ability has a significant negative correlation. Second, a child's communication ability has a moderating effect in relation to the use of media devices and executive function difficulties. The difficulty of executive function showed a reciprocal increase to a child's use of media devices and indicated a discriminatory effect of a child's communication ability. In conclusion, this study shows that communication ability is important as a personal factor for children who control the negative effects of media devices. Therefore, it is necessary to provide and support an environment for the development of a child's communication ability.

Data were collected from 219 psychiatric nurses in B and G city and analyzed by t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient, and multiple regression using SPSS/WIN 22.0. The degree of communication ability in psychiatric nurses was 3.59±.43. There were significant differences in communication ability with respect to sense of humor(r=.53, p<.001), and also between communication ability and empathy ability(r=.39, p<.001), with an explanatory power of 34.4%(F=29.56, p<.001). In conclusion, these findings indicate that the higher sense of humor and empathy ability of psychiatric nurses, the higher communication ability. Accordingly, to improve the communication ability of psychiatric nurses, educational programs to improve sense of humor and empathy ability of psychiatric nurses should be developed and utilized

  • This study aimed to investigate how mothers' Korean fluency and children's experiences in child-care centers influenced the communication ability of children from multi-cultural families. The subjects were 600 children from multi-cultural families who enrolled in child-care centers in Gyeonggi province, their mothers, and 350 teachers caring for these children. The data were collected by administrating a questionnaire and analyzed with descriptive statistics and hierarchical regressions. The results of this study were as follows. The mothers' Korean fluency, number of years children had attended child-care centers, and language guidance provided by child-care centers for children from multi-cultural families all had positive effects on children's general and oral communication ability. On the other hand, the number of years that the children had attended child-care centers had no significant effect on the children's written communication ability, but the mothers' Korean fluency and language guidance provided by child-care centers for children from multi-cultural families had positive effects on children's written communication ability. Finally, the mothers' Korean fluency moderated the effects of children's child-care experiences on their communication ability. Specifically, the more fluent the mothers' Korean, the stronger the effects of children's child-care experiences on their communication ability.

Results: The communication ability was nursing major satisfaction (t=8.25, p<.001), and last year's average grade (t=7.29, p=.001). Interpersonal relationships showed significant differences in gender (t=2.51, p=.013) and nursing major satisfaction (t=10.99, p<.001). Communication ability and empathy (r=.37, p<.001), communication ability and interpersonal relation (r=.77, p<.001), empathy and interpersonal relation (r=.43, p<.001) showed a significant static correlation. In communication ability and interpersonal relation, empathy had a partial mediating effect (Z=2.97, p<.001), and explanatory power was 62%. Conclusion: To improve the communication ability and interpersonal relation of nursing students, it is necessary to develop a personalized and empathy-enhanced education program for each grade.

  • Purpose: This study aims to identify the relationship between nursing students' social anxiety and communication ability, and in particular, to determine the mediating effect of self-efficacy. Methods: A total of 187 nursing students enrolled at four universities in Korea completed surveys between August and September 2020. The measurements included the Global Interpersonal Communication Competence Scale, self-efficacy scales, and interaction anxiousness scales. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, an independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson's correlation, multiple regression following the Baron and Kenny method, and bootstrapping for mediation. Results: Communication ability was significantly negatively correlated with social anxiety (r=-.61, p<.001) and significantly positively correlated with self-efficacy (r=.77, p<.001). Furthermore, self-efficacy had a partial mediating effect on the relationship between social anxiety and communication ability. Conclusion: The findings of this study suggest that communication ability can be improved if individual characteristics such as social anxiety and self-efficacy are considered. Therefore, when developing communication ability improvement programs for nursing students in the future, it is considered important to actively consider these personal characteristics.

Second, ego resilience according to the general characteristics of preliminary broadcasters was significantly different according to gender, major satisfaction, and club activities. There were significant differences according to satisfaction and club activities. Third, the correlation between ego resilience, empathic ability, and communication ability of preliminary broadcasters has a significant static correlation, and the correlation between empathic ability and communication ability is the highest. Fourth, the factors influencing communication ability were empathic ability, ego resilience, and gender. It will be meaningful as a study that the factors influencing communication ability related to preliminary broadcasters are empathic and ego resilience. Therefore, it is necessary to prepare a plan such as opening a curriculum to improve the communication ability of preliminary broadcasters.
