The Development of Multi-Cavity Cylindrical Gear (멀티 캐비티 실린더 기어 개발)

  • The cylindrical gear in power window motor assembly is important to doors of automobile. This study is performed for the purpose of getting a manufacturing technique instead of large quantities import and six-cavity mold production. This multi-cavity cylindrical gear is produced under five procedures. The first, mold design of mass-production, the second, making a CAE model for mass-production, the third, manufacturing of sample mold, the fourth, trying-out and measuring of 3 dimensional design, the fifth, acquisition of data analysis and mold modification. Among them, analysis of mass-production using CAE, designing and manufacturing of multi-cavity are successfully performed. In the results, it is concluded that the mold for one gate and eight-cavity based on hot-runner is suitable for making a cylindrical gear.

Flow Analysis of Filling Imbalance according to Runner Shapes in Injection Mold (사출금형의 러너시스템 형상에 따른 충전불균형 유동해석 모델)

  • Almost all injection molds have multi-cavity runner system for mass production, which are designed with geometrically balanced runner system in order to accomplish filling balance between cavity to cavity during processing; However, even though geometrically balanced runner is used, filling imbalances have been observed. In these day, the CAE has been used widely in injection molding. However, CAE with fusion mesh can't indicate such as jetting, flow mark and filling imbalance in multi cavity mold. In this study, we investigated the filling imbalance according to runner shapes by CAE analysis. As a result in CAE, in case of binary branch runner system, filling imbalance was indicated between cavity to cavity, but the flow pattern of each cavity uniformed in unary branch runner system.

A Study on CAD/CAE Integration for Design Optimization of Mold Cooling Problem (CAD와 유한요소해석을 연계한 금형 냉각문제의 설계최적화에 대한 연구)

  • In mechanical design, optimization procedures have mostly been implemented solely by CAE codes combined by optimization routine, in which the model is built, analyzed and optimized. In the complex geometries, however, CAD is indispensable tool for the efficient and accurate modeling. This paper presents a method to carry out optimization, in which CAD and CAE are used for modeling and analysis respectively and integrated in an optimization routine. Application Programming Interface (API) function is exploited to automate CAD modeling, which enables direct access to CAD. The advantage of this method is that the user can create very complex object in Parametric and automated way, which is impossible in CAE codes. Unigraphics and ANSYS are adopted as CAD and CAE tools. In ANSYS, automated analysis is done using codes made by a script language, APDL(ANSYS Parametric Design Language). Optimization is conducted by VisualDOC and IDESIGN respectively. As an illustrative example, a mold design problem is studied, which is to minimize temperature deviation over a diagonal line of the surface of the mold in contact with hot glass.

Load Balancing Algorithm for Parallel Computing of Design Problem involving Multi-Disciplinary Analysis (다분야통합해석에 기반한 설계문제의 병렬처리를 위한 부하분산알고리즘)

  • An engineering design problem involving Multi-Disciplinary Analysis(MDA) generally requires a large amounts of computing time for the entire design process, and therefore it is essential to introduce a Multiple Processor System (MPS) for reducing the computing time. However, when applying conventional parallel processing techniques, all of the CAE S/W requited for the MDA should be installed on all the servers making up MPS because of characteristic of MDA and it would be a great expense in CAE S/W licenses. To solve this problem, we propose a Weight-based Multiqueue Load Balancing algorithm for a heterogeneous MPS where performance of servers and CAE S/W installed on each server are different of each other. To validate the performance, a Computational experiments comparing the First Come First Serve algorithm and our proposed algorithm was accomplished.

Improving the Whitening Phenomenon Technology for Preform PET Injection Molding by Using a Ceramic Insulation Gate (세라믹 단열 게이트를 이용한 블로우성형용 PET 프리폼의 백화현상 저감 기술)

  • The purpose of this study is to improve the whitening phenomenon around the PET preform gate for blow molding. CAE analysis of plastic injection molding has been applied to design of preform shape and select the injection molding conditions. A ceramic insulation gate with lower thermal conductivity than metal is applied to improve the whitening phenomenon created around the gate in the injection molding process. According to the results of CAE analysis, the warpage deformation at the square corner was estimated to be about 0.34 mm at the bottom. From the results of the temperature history analysis, it was confirmed that the resin near the gate cooled more rapidly than the cavity. Ceramic insulated gates were fabricated to reduce the cooling rate and experiments were conducted to confirm the effectiveness of the whitening phenomenon improvement. As a result of the ceramic insulation gate experiment, it was confirmed that the whitening phenomenon was significantly reduced around the gate.

CAE Analysis on Strength and Fatigue of Rear Door of Passenger Car (승용차량 리어도어의 강도 및 피로에 대한 CAE해석)

  • This paper studies the strength, fatigue sensitivity, safety factor and lifetimes by means of structural and fatigue analyses of different models of rear doors upon the opening of doors and windows leading to severe fatigue fractures of the window motor components of rear doors. The simulation models were a standard model and other models. The other models, which are denoted here as models I and II, were modified versions of the standard model, with a rib of 3mm and a thickness of 2mm as compared to the standard model. The door was modelled with CATIA V5 and analyzed with the ANSYS program. The material of the rear door was cold rolled steel (DDQ). From the study results, the standard model and model I were confirmed to be less safe upon the opening of the door as compared to the opening of a window in terms of fatigue, but model II was found to be safe for both door and window openings.

  • Recently an automobile industry is concerned about an automobile wiring harness system. It means that development of component modules is on the increase. An importance of the connector in one part of the modules will be enhanced. A connector is made of P.B.T. (Poly Butylene Terephthalate). PBT is resistant to the high temperature. This paper deals with thermal strain of connector. According as temperature increase, effects of the temperature and thermal strains give an analysis of the deformation using ABAQUS. This apparent thermal strain results actually from the variation of temperature. Being based on this analysis, axiomatic design applies to design parameters of the connector. As compared with CAE analysis, a performance improvement makes certain of the truth of the matter.
