  • Community music therapy (CoMT) has been recently developed and expands the opportunities for music therapy. The concept of CoMT is introduced in this article, and its three attributes of community, music, and health are reviewed. This study specified each attribute of CoMT: a community (a group of people, a field where members of a group interact with each other), music (a substance of interaction, collective music-making), and health (motivation and goal of interaction, relational and social well-being). The application and interactions of the three attributes of CoMT are introduced as in the concept of community music, music and health, and community health. How CoMT can be applied to the field of music therapy is also detailed and based on the concept of CoMT and its relationship with the attributes, the CoMT was reconstructed as CoMuHeal in this study. Future studies are needed to propose how music therapy approaches can be developed to provide music for well-being and better health in the community and how CoMT can be applied in collaboration with other professional fields.

  • Melody is defined as adding spatial dimension to the rhythm which is temporal concept. Being able to understand melodic pattern and to reproduce the pattern also requires cognitive skills. Since 1980, there has been much research on the relationship between academic skills and music cognitive skills, and how to transfer the skills learned in music work to the academic learning. The study purported to examine various research outcomes dealing with the correlational and causal relationships between musical and academic skills. The two dominating theories explaining the connection between two skills ares are "neural theory" and "near transfer theory." The theories focus mainly on the transference of spatial and temporal reasoning which are reinforced in the musical learning. The study reviewed the existing meta-analysis studies, which provided evidence for positive correlation between academic and musical skills, and significance of musical learning in academic skills. The study further examined specific skills area that musical learning is correlated, such as mathematics and reading. The research stated that among many mathematical concepts, proportional topics have the strongest correlation with musical skills. Also with reading, temporal processing also has strong relationship with auditory skills and motor skills, and further affect language and literacy ability. The study suggest that skills learned in the musical work can be transferred to other areas of learning and structured music activities may be every efficient for children for facilitating academic concepts.

  • The purpose of this study is to inquire into the theoretical background of music therapy interventions for the improvement of mathematical concepts among young children with special needs. The researcher provides a basis of theoretical background about musical activities as an effective tool for young children to understand and promote their mathematical concepts, and the necessity of practical application in the field of mathematics education is suggested. Music, as a multi-sensory modality, has an ability to hold and maintain one's attention, and can be used as a memory aid and a powerful and effective motivator and reinforcer for young children. Therefore, musical activities can be used to facilitate mathematical concepts in the field of education for young children. Possible musical activities for promoting mathematical development are suggested, and the necessity for developing various musical activities is discussed.

  • The purpose of this study is to explore the meaning(significance) of improving early childhood music teaching classes while analyzing microteaching in small group mentoring process. Improvement on teaching was carried out in the form of fellow teacher mentoring made up of small groups of 4 members through microteaching analysis, and the research findings are as follows. First, it was discovered that a clear understanding of musical concepts and theories must take precedence for desirable teaching of early childhood music. Second, it could be confirmed whether musical concepts are well integrated with actual early childhood music teaching activities through small group mentoring. Third, in the process of small group mentoring using microteaching analysis, sympathy was found to be highly important in the improvement on early childhood music teaching by research participants.

  • This study analyzed the effect of singing music activities using media on audiation. The study selected 39 children from two 5-year-old child care center classes, they were divided into experiment group and control group. The collected data was analyzed by an analysis of covariance(ANCOVA), and conducted t-test on the data collected through pre and after examination using SPSS Win 12.0. The results reveal that the singing music activities using media was verified to have positive effect on audiation of children. In conclusion, using media with musical concept for children music education is need for building children's musical ability.

  • This study is conducted for the purpose of conceptualizing a choral communication model. first, the musical communication models analyzed to know how it can apply in the choral music. As a result, we take the music communication is the interaction between composers, performers and audience. But the choral music have properties not found in the general music. The choral music is the need for internal communication process before performing music. First, the conductor is to interpret the music. Next, choral members are shared the interpretation of music. This internal communication be conducted properly, musical communication with the audience will be successful. The trial model provided for in this study will be a guideline for successful communication in the choral music, theoretically or practically.

  • Mathematics(group theory, in particular) makes it partially possible to present and create music and patterns. This means that patterns can be presented by music through mathematics. In this work, we first produce musical piece for each type of frieze patterns. Based on the musical pieces, we compose a music presenting the combined pattern of all frieze types. We finally produce a video for hearing design through music. Through a QR-code, anyone can access the product of this work. The results of this research might be examples for integration of mathematics and arts and for utilizing smart circumstances.

  • This study examined musical concepts of early childhood teachers with the 'Sing-a-New-Song' activity and problems teachers face in the application of musical concepts. Participants were 10 kindergarten teachers; data were collected through lesson plans, videos of classes, and interviews with teachers. Results showed that (1) selection of songs focused on words of a song rather than musical concepts; ignoring development of the musical level of the children. (2) Goal-setting ignored musical concepts. (3) Class management confused musical concepts with other concepts. (4) No evaluation of musical concepts was undertaken. Problems included teachers' lack of knowledge of musical development in young children, insufficient understanding and limited application of musical concepts, and low expectations regarding music as a subject of instruction.
