  • This study investigates the relationships between parental efficacy and parental practices among Korean immigrant parents in the US. Parental efficacy constitutes a special aspect of parental belief systems focusing on the beliefs that parents have the capabilities to manage the tasks of nurturing and socializing their children. Results showed that parental efficacy was positively related to the authoritative dimension of parental practices. However, there was no significant negative relationship between parental efficacy and the authoritarian dimension of parental practices. Interestingly, the authoritative and authoritarian dimensions of parental practices were highly correlated among Korean immigrant parents. This finding is in contrast to much of the research on Anglo American parenting that indicates that authoritarian practices are not compatible with authoritative practices. For Korean immigrant parents, authoritarian practices seem not to have detrimental connotation. Therefore, it can be assumed that Korean immigrant parents parental practices have different underlying mechanisms compared to Anglo American parents. We need to focus parenting research with a broader perspective on the sociological and historical context from which parental practices arise.

  • In spite of the previous research that had been emphasizing the importance of parents' assistance for revealing genius and achievement of their children, there was not enough information about how to drive the parents participation and support. Not considering "what and why" about the supporting of parents of gifted students, it was vaguely generalized that the education from the supporting parents was important. However, this situation will have a possibility of missing out on more important things of gifted children's parental support. Therefore, this research will deal with a variety of effective ways to clarify what the parents can do to support their gifted children and the problems that are related to those ways. Furthermore, by suggesting some of the ways that can complement the system of current parental support, it will set up fundamental ways to help the supporting parents.

Second, the results revealed the moderation effect of parents reflection levels on the relationship between maternal childhood experiences by parents and parental role satisfaction. Finally, parental reflection levels were also seen to have a mediated moderation effect of parental reflection level from maternal childhood experiences to mother's reaction to negative emotions of their preschoolers through parental role satisfaction. These results indicate the importance of parental reflection and parental role satisfaction.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the recognition of the parents of scientifically gifted children of the need for parent education. In order to attain this goal, questions were developed about their recognition for the need of a parent education program. A sample of parents (N=121) was selected. Data analysis indicated that the instruments developed in this study had proper validity and reliability measurements (Chronbach ${\alpha}=0.93$ for parent questionnaire). The results showed that parents want parent education, but they don't have the opportunities for it. Parents want information on courses, creativity development and counselling. Parents are especially anxious to obtain information on their children's courses. Finally, results revealed positive correlations between parents' needs and experiences in parent education. The results of study give some implications for developing parent education programs.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the differences in psychological adjustment among university students according to their parents' divorce status and their parents' conflict. Specifically, students who have not-divorced parents were subdivided into two groups: those who have with a high degree of conflict and with a low degree of conflict. The results were as follows. First, the degree of the marital conflict from the divorced parents is higher than the one of the marital conflict from the parents not divorced. Second, the group who has the parents with a high level of marital conflict went through the highest difficulties among 3 groups at all variables without the parent-child relationship. Therefore, this study suggests that marital conflict is more closely related to psychological adjustment of children than parental divorce itself.

  • This study attempts to investigate the parent's perception types of online game and their related factors. The data was collected through the online survey from 485 parents. As a result, the parent's perception types of online game were classified as 4 types. Each perception type shows differences in an attitude and reaction to online game and gender. Next, this study employed a multinomial logistic regression model to examine variables influencing the parent's perception types of online game. The result shows that parent's gender, controlling parental style, and problematic communication have statistically significant effects on the parent's perception types of online game. This study holds its significance in considering the game use of children in the context of parent-child relationship by exploring the parent's perception of online game and its influencing variables.

The research participants were 431 middle school students living in Gwangju. Data were collected from self-reported questionnaires and analyzed using the SPSS 23.0 program. The major findings were as follows: First, the adolescents' perception of parental role responsibilities, resilience, and self-esteem scores were higher than the median(3.00) score. Second, there was a positive correlation among perception of parental role responsibilities (emotion & sociality, education), resilience, and self-esteem. Third, self-esteem had a statistically positive moderating effect on the resilience. It signified that the relationship between perception of parental role responsibilities (emotion & sociality, education) and resilience appeared differently depending on the self-esteem, which means that self-esteem had a positive effect on the resilience.
