  • It is said that ceramic arts which reflects the sprit of the age and culture is one of the representative cultural assets in Korea. Ceramic arts has the longest tradition and it has been used in our everyday life from a historical perspective. Unfortunately, most textbooks we use nowadays just show some art works for appreciation. It is impossible to teach unique techniques of ceramic arts with those textbooks. Traditional culture is not considered as a main part of educational contents but surrounding elements. Therefore it is hard for students to learn about our traditional culture deeply and it is also difficult to know the importance of the ceramic arts in secondary schools. Through the education of ceramic arts students can understand our traditional culture and they can also experience the formative arts by using plane and dimensional techniques. Teachers have to focus on historical background, types, functions, and sense of beauty of ceramic arts when they teach students in school. Students can use the knowledge in their daily lives. The education of ceramic arts encourage students to create new culture for ceramic arts.

  • Modern ceramics is exploring the expansion of the area with various expression techniques. The silhouette technique among various expressive decoration techniques is a representative expression technique of object form expression. This emphasizes the outline of the form and expresses it and omits the inner form. It gives simplicity and intensity, and awakens aesthetic sensibility and imagination. Therefore, the researcher designed the material related to the core image of the story by designing it as a silhouette technique by using the "Acorn Story" as a subject and then making the transfer paper by using the vector graphic. The transferred paper was expressed on a ceramic plate by transferring technique. Therefore, I hope that this research, beyond the merely decorative function of ceramic expression, will become a ceramic design that will awaken imagination and aesthetic sensibility in digital information age.

  • Modern figurative work is designed to have more creativity and characteristic traits by pure thought of the formative ceramic arts. In compliance with the demand which is various the design development could be satisfied an individuality and a taste is become accomplished. In this view, this study looks over expressive aspect of Cubism to present partition as a independent formative ceramic arts is able to contribute emotionally to our whole lives. In this procedure, this work is produced to express a three-dimensional effect and a spatial effect, approaching a figurative side. • Taking a look at art history around the world reveals the presence of ceramics in a wide range of areas. There have been many changes and developments over the years, but especially notable is the fact that in the course of history, the craft of ceramics has become an aesthetic art form rather than serving the original purpose of providing daily object of necessity. The Art Nouveau movement had peat influence in the development of ceramics before and after 19$^{th}$ century, and its inherent style continues to be copied and produced to modem day. The Art Nouveau style can today be seen particularly in contemporary tableware designs reflecting its graceful motifs that are now richly presenting themselves on table settings. This study looks at the possibilites of Art Nouveau in ceramics, namely by combining both traditional formativ qualities and contemporary visual inspirations to seek new expressions of beauty. In order to document records and analyze formative developments of Art Nouveau, representative pieces have been chronologically presented to cover the period from 1895 to the present.

  • In recent years, printing paper with a function of information delivery and aesthetic value has attracted a great attention with increasing market demand for coated paper that is capable of high quality printing. The coated paper for inkjet printing with high-quality of photorealistic grades requires the coating layer with a good wettability and porous surface structure in order to improve the printability of ink. In this study, the coated paper was prepared using polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and surface treated nano silica sol with silane coupling agent. It was confirmed that the coating layer with surface treated nano silica sol showed a uniform pore distribution and flat surface roughness. Glossiness of the prepared printing paper was similar to that of commercial high quality photo paper. Especially, the coated paper with surface treated nano silica sol showed improved printability with excellent roundness of the printed dot of ink. These results indicates that the coating layer with excellent wettability and uniform pore distribution can be formed by using the nano-silica particles with improved dispersibility through the surface treatment of the silane coupling agent.

  • All artists set the arrangement of relative probability subjectively by giving the contrast of color and chroma to give higher probability of some colors in their works and then perform the mechanical assignment. Also the analysis of plastic structure in all areas of design has been made by subjective and qualitative method based on the emotion, intuition and experience of interpreter of design structures and that of color structures was done by the same method. Therefore this study compares and suggests the style characteristics of modern and postmodern design with the object quantitative analysis of color structure by selecting and applying Ilya Chashinik's ceramic dishes as the analysis product of modern design and Jim Melchert's ceramic wall painting as that of postmodern design of 'analysis model of color structure' researched and developed for the quantitative information analysis based on information and communication theory and it is also meaningful in introducing and presenting the analytic procedure and methods centering around quantitative analysis model of color structure analysis.

  • They are used as a symbol representing some meaning of an object. Geometric patterns in the formative arts have been recasted by artists and used to express modern images. Simple shapes of geometric patterns create beauty with their outward appearance and decorated patterns. The simpleness of decorated patterns go with restrained, rational, and modern concepts. The patterns decorated with geometric patterns use geometric figures such as octagon, triangle, quadrangle, etc. and they give satisfaction to modern people. They are also regular and simple, so they can create impactive visual effects and three-dimensional space can be created with these dynamic patterns. Therefore, attractiveness of shape which gives enjoyment is also found in tableware design using geometric patterns. Using geometric patterns in tableware design is not based on a chance factor, so it is possible to objectify and reproduce the patterns. These repetitive designs can influence a lot of designers working on tableware and help improve the tableware designs. It is also considered that those designs are able to create new opportunities to produce a high value product in the ceramics industry.
