Gelechiidae Collected from Is. Ulleung-do in the East Sea, Reporting a Newly Recorded Species from Korea and an Unknown Species (울릉도에서 채집된 뿔나방과의 보고 및 2 미기록종)

  • In a faunal survey of the Gelechiidae (Lepidoptera: Gelechioidea) from Is. Ulleung-do in the East Sea of Republic of Korea, one species of Gelechiidae, Bagdadia gnomia Ponomaranko, is reported for the first time from Korea and an unknown species of the genus Bryotropa was discovered. In addition, eight species of Gelechiidae including a little known species, Dichomeris anisacuminata Li & Zheng, were first recorded from Is. Ulleung-do. Images of adults and genitalia for the newly recorded species and a little known species are provided.

Diversity of Insect Fauna in Junam Wetland of Korea (주남 습지대의 곤충다양성)

  • A sampling survey was conducted at three reservoirs of Junam wetland ($6.02km^2$) in Korea to identify the wetland insect fauna along with their dominance, diversity, richness and evenness. Methods of monitoring were visual inspection and sweeping in 2010, Malaise trapping in 2011, light trapping and pitfall trapping in 2012. In total, 9,269 individuals (36.3% coleopterans, 21.3% lepidopterans and 13.9% odonates) were collected, belonging to 574 species, 141 families and 14 orders. For the number of species, lepidopterans shared the highest (31.2%), followed by coleopterans (28.0%) and hemipterans (12.9%). Dominant species were Enochrus simulans (Coleoptera) (7.9% of total individuals) followed by Hydaticus grammicus (Coleoptera) (4.3%), Galerucella nipponensis (Coleoptera) (4.1%), Elophila interruptalis (Lepidoptera) (3.1%) and Apis mellifera (Hymenoptera) (2.2%). Total counts of coleopterans, lepidopterans and odonates in the three reservoirs were quite high, but the counts were not significantly different among the reservoirs. Insect diversity index (H') and richness index (RI) of the Junam wetland were 5.04 and 59.10, respectively.

  • 최근 기후변화로 인해 집중호우, 태풍, 폭설 등 악기상 발생이 빈번해지고 있으며, 특히 태풍은 단일 기상현상 가운데 가장 강력하며, 태풍으로 인하여 집중호우 폭풍 및 해일 등 부차적 악기상이 함께 발생하여 인명 및 경제 사회적인 피해 또한 막대하지만, 태풍으로 인한 강수량 측정은 다른 현상에 비해 정확한 측정이 어렵다. 이것은 태풍이 발생에서 소멸까지 일생의 대부분을 해상에서 보내, 육상 관측으로는 정확한 강수량 측정이 어렵기 때문이다. 그러나 위성자료를 활용하면 해상에서의 태풍 구름에 의한 강수분포를 추정할 수 있으며, 특히 구름을 투과하여 아래 내부구조 파악이 가능한 마이크로파 영역의 적외복사에너지를 이용하면 좀더 정확한 강수량 자료를 얻을 수 있을 것이다. 그러나 관측영역 확대를 위해서는 가능한 마이크로파위성자료를 합성처리하여 활용하는 것이 효과를 얻을 수 있을 것이다. 본 연구에서는 현재 기상청에서 수신하고 있는 Aqua/AMSR-E, SSM/I, TMI, QuilSCAT 등에서 산출되는 강수량을 상호 검증기법을 이용하여 합성처리 하였다. 위성자료마다 정확도와 해상도가 다른 것에 대해서는 높은 정확도에 가중치를 주고, 고해상도 자료에 맞추어 픽셀 크기를 맞추었다. 사용한 자료는 2005년$\sim$2007년 간 발생한 태풍 중에서 우리나라에 영향을 준 나비, 나리, 에위니아 등 3개 사례이며, 검증은 자동관측자료(AWS : Automatic Weather Station)자료와 일본 AWS자료(AMEDAS : Automatic Measurement Data Aquisition System) 및 미해군 연구소 발표자료를 이용하여, 시계열오차 분석 및 산포도를 분석하였다.

A Faunistic Study of Moths (Insecta, Lepidoptera) on Is. Aphae-do, Sinan-gun, Jeollanam-do, Korea (전남 신안군 압해도의 나방상)

  • We surveyed the moth fauna on Is. Aphae-do, Sinan-gun, Jeollanam-do from March to September 2006 to investigate moth diversity and basic faunal data for ecosystem change on the Island. Three hundred thirty-nine moth species, which comprised 16 families and 241 genera, were recognized. The most dominant species was a pyralid moth, Endotricha olivacealis (116 indivs.). Common species included Chiasmia hebesata, Agnidra scabiosa, and Sophta ruficeps. Two hundred-one species (59.2%) were collected only once during investigation period. The family Noctuidae with 129 species was dominant in the area followed by Geometridae (81 species) and Pyralidae (38 species). Based on number of collected individuals, Geometridae was highest and followed by Noctuidae, Pyralidae and Sphingidae.

  • In this paper, an efficient butterfly structure for Radix-4 FFT algorithm using DA(Distributed Arithmetic) is proposed. It is shown that DA can be efficiently used in twiddle factor calculation of the Radix-4 FFT algorithm. The Verilog-HDL coding results for the proposed DA butterfly structure show 61.02% cell area reduction comparison with those of the conventional multiplier butterfly structure. Furthermore, the 64-point Radix-4 pipeline structure using the proposed butterfly and delay commutators is compared with other conventional structures. Implementation coding results show 46.1% cell area reduction.

Three species of Gelechiidae (Lepidoptera: Gelechioidea) new to Korea (뿔나방과의 3미기록종 보고)

  • During the course of the faunal study of Gelechiidae in Jeju, Korea, totally 12 species were recognized in this study. Of them, three species of Gelchiidae from Jeju Island; Anarsia euphorodes Meyrick, A. protensa Park, and Toronodoxa leptopalta Meyrick, are reported for the first time from Korea. An additional nine species which are known for the first time from Jeju Island are listed with new collecting data.

  • Three species of Noctuidae, Eupsilia boursini Sugi, Valeria tricristata Draudt and Othosia satoi Sugi are reported for the first time from Korea. Diagnosis for the species, photographs of adults, and illustrations of the male or female genitalia, are provided.

  • An yponomeutid species, Saridoscelis kodamai Moriuti, is recorded from Korea and mainland China for the first time. Saridoscelinae are first recorded in the Korean fauna. Photos of external and genital features are provided for S. kodamai. Occurrence of S. kodamai in Korea is discussed in relation with the flight time and the distribution of their host plants.

  • Saridoscelis sphenias Meyrick is reported for the first time from Korea. It represents the second species of Saridoscelinae in the country. The external appearance and male genitalia of S. sphenias are described and illustrated. Records of this species in Korea bring a concern as a pest species to domestic blueberry cultivations.

He II RAMAN SCATTERED LINE BY NEUTRAL HYDROGEN IN THE BIPOLAR PLANETARY NEBULA M2-9 (나비형 행성상 성운 M2-9에서 He II의 중성 수소에 의한 라만 산란선)

  • In the spectrum of the young bipolar planetary nebula M2-9 obtained from the 1.5m telescope at the Cerro Tololo Inter-American Observatory, we detected the He II feature at 6545 $\AA$ that are proposed to be formed via Raman scattering by atomic hydrogen. However, in the same spectrum, the He II emission lines at 6527 $\AA$ and 6560 $\AA$ are absent, which implies that the He II emission region is hidden from our line of sight and that the H I scattering region is pretty much extended not to be obscured entirely. We performed photoionization computations to estimate the physical size of the He II emission line region to be $10^{16}cm$, from which the location and dimension of the obscuring circumstellar region are inferred and the temperature of the central star must exceed $10^5K$. The angular size of the circumstellar region responsible for the obscuration of the He II emission region is ~1" with the assumption of the distance 01 kpc to M2-9, which is consistent with the recent image of M2-9 obtained with the Hubble Space Telescope.
