  • Despite the recent importance of interdisciplinary convergence research, little has been studied on the detailed experience while conducting convergence research in Korea. To deeper understand challenges and overcoming in convergence research and to suggest an administrative system for it, by analyzing researchers experience and cognition while conducting their actual convergence research, in-depth interviews with 16 full-time faculty members with expertise in convergence research and research administration in a university and analyzed the interviews by using the paradigm model of grounded theory. The results show that the core phenomenon researchers experienced is that "convergence research is not being effectively conducted," and they experience growth in research through pursuing efforts and improving research atmosphere in various aspects. Based on these findings, we made several suggestions for promoting convergence research.

  • This study applied hermeneutic grounded theory suggested by Rennie to understand general meaning of adoption decision process of 7 non-married mothers. At the end of the analysis, 191 meaning units, 46 subcategories, and 11 hermeneutic categories were constructed. The core category that threads throughout the adoption decision process was represented as "living with a scar left by the duality of motherhood; repudiating and embracing." The adoption decision process emerged as recognition of pregnancy, avoidance of reality, searching for adoption, escalation of confusion, determination and rationalization or forfeiture. Based upon our research, we suggested that the adoption decision process of non-married mother was another way of practicing motherhood, and we proposed that we need to develop a psycho-social support program to improve the lives of non-married mothers.

  • The purpose of this study is to understand the experiences and perspectives of the self-reliance program participants through a longitudinal qualitative study from 2006 to 2012. Based on Grounded theory approach, it examines how participants managed their lives up to now status. Through open-coding process, 181 meanings were identified. Paradigm model shows that the goal of the self-reliance program can be viewed as causal condition. However, contextual factors such as poverty experiences and child-support affected the self-reliance program participants to adapt and stay in the program rather than actively participate in the market. The finding shows that the meaning of self-reliance are differently understood by policy makers and self-reliance program participants.

Futhermore, these circumstances are aggravating the youth job creation. This study investigates the co-creation approach for solving the youth job creation problem. By using the grounded theory on recent newspapers for a year, the study proposes a paradigm model for the youth job creation. Based upon this result, the study creates the conceptual model for the youth job creation, which includes three factors such as process, environment, and institution. This study will contribute not only to the extension of qualitative study on the grounded theory in research, but also to the political implications for the youth job creation in practice.

  • Children's use of the Internet is growing. Each company collects children's personal information. However, it is also difficult for children to recognize the concept of personal information. In this study, based on the analysis of newspaper children's personal information leakage, we investigated the occurrence of personal information leakage in children through ground theory, one of qualitative research methods used in the social science field. The ground theory is thought to be able to derive a causal relationship by identifying the leakage of children's personal information. As a result of the study, it was collected through the consent of the legal representative, but depending on the situation, the consent process was not performed. Even with the consent, it was found that due to insufficient measure to protect personal information, various situation(criminal damage, anxiety, embarrassment, anger, etc.) occurred the legal representative. For this study, we had one to one depth interview with 10 participants who had overcome their hardships of life after stopping gambling. The data gathered from the interviews were analysed following the grounded theory process suggested by Strauss and Corbin. As a result, 131 concepts were constructed, and they were classified into 32 subcategories and 14 category. We presented "overcoming of the hardships of life through the acceptance of reality and re-determination" as a core subject which connects the whole concepts. Based on the research outcomes, we proposed some policy and practice intervention methods such as economic self-support program, social security service, and triangle support system by counselor-family-peer recovering addicts.

  • The purpose of this study was to identify factors that affect the optimal selection of rehabilitation therapy and explore a processing model of rehabilitation decision-making for parents of children with cerebral palsy. A ground theory of Strauss and Corbin(1988)was used. Thus, collecting data was classified into open coding 140 concepts, 29 sub-categories and 8 categories. As a result of analysis, we identified that the main phenomenon was 'finding optimal therapy in trial and error' and parents experienced 6 stages including 'embarrassment', 'confusion', 'maximization', 'wandering', 'strategy', and 'balance'. Furthermore, 'rehabilitation-daily life balance' was a key category for continuation of treatment. This qualitative study discribed factors influencing determination of treatment and its continuation, and suggested a processing model of parents' decision- making for rehabilitation of their children.
