  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of adolescents' mobile phone dependency on depression and aggression and to identify mediating effects of parenting attitudes and peer relationships. This study used data from the 4th and 5th waves of 2010 KCYPS (Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey). Structural Equation Model(SEM) was conducted to examine the mediating effects of parenting attitudes and peer relationships. The results showed that adolescents' mobile phone dependency had positive effects on depression and aggression. In addition, the relationship between adolescents' mobile phone dependency and depression was partially mediated by parenting attitudes and peer relationships. The relationship between adolescents' mobile phone dependency and aggression was also partially mediated by parenting attitudes and peer relationships. Based on these findings, further suggestions are provided to reduce adolescents' depression and aggression by decreasing mobile phone dependency and improving parenting attitudes and peer relationships.

  • The purpose of this study was to raise validity of the result through using national data, to analyze the effect of children's smartphone addiction on aggression and moderating effect of parenting styles on the relationship between children's smartphone addiction and aggression. The data were obtained from 4th waves of KCYPS(Korean Children Youth Panel Study), and 1,686 4th graders in elementary schools who have smartphone were analysed. To achieve the purpose, this study executed frequency analysis, descriptive statistic, and hierarchical multiple regression analysis through SPSS 21.0. The results of this study are as follows: First, the higher children's smartphone addiction level, the higher children's aggression goes. Second, parents' supervision, affection, neglect have moderating effects on the relationship between children's smartphone addiction and aggression which means parenting styles could reduce children's aggression despite serious smartphone addiction. Based on these results, this study suggests that the combination of preventive discipline of smartphone addiction and parental education program is needed to reduce children's aggression which is main factor of bullying. In addition, this study suggests the establishment of special arrangement such as 'shut down' for smartphone addiction prevention.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the trajectory of early adolescent aggression and to assess the effects of perceived family factors on it. This study investigated the changes in aggression over time and the effects of three family factors, parental attachment, parental monitoring, and family conflict, on the changes using multilevel modeling. The data from Korea Youth Panel Survey(KYPS) of fourth graders who were followed over five years were analyzed. The results indicated that there was a significant average increase followed by a slight decrease in aggression over time; that is, the data followed a quadratic trend. Parental attachment, parental monitoring, and family conflict had significant time-independent effects on aggression, while only family conflict had a significant time-dependent effect on aggression. These results imply that family factors need to be emphasized in planning prevention and intervention programs to reduce aggression during adolescence.
