  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between self concept and the climacteric symptoms in middle-aged women. Method: From a convenience sample of 123 women between 40 and 59 years of age living in P-city data were collected using a structured questioanaire. It included a self concept scale and climacteric symptom scale. With spss/pc(+), data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA and Pearson's correlation coefficients. Result: 1 The mean score for self concept was $108.73{\pm}16.24$. 2. The variables that influenced the self concept of middle-aged women most were 'health state' and 'marriage satisfaction'. They were statistically significant at the .01 level. 3. The mean score for climacteric symptoms was 3.13. Of psychophysical, physical and psychological symptoms the scores for psychophysical symptoms were the highest. 4. There were significant negative correlations between self concept and climacteric symptoms (r=-.333, p=.000). Conclusion: This study suggests that positive self concept can reduce climacteric symptoms in middle-aged women.

  • Purpose : This quasi-experimental study was to examine the effects of aromatherapy massage on depression, self-esteem, and climacteric symptoms in the middle aged women. Method : Sixty-two middle aged women participated. Aromatherapy massage was conducted two times a week for 20 minutes for 6 weeks by the massage therapist. Face to face interviews with depression, climacteric symptoms, and self-esteem assessment were done at the pretest and posttest. Result : 1) Score of depression decreased significantly after the use of aromatherapy massage. 2) Score of self-esteem did not change significantly after the use of aromatherapy massage. 3) Score of climacteric symptoms decreased significantly after the use of aromatherapy massage. Conclusion: Aromatherapy massage was effective to reduce depression and climacteric symptom in middle aged women.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate relationship between the climacteric symptoms and the dietary patterns. The study was conducted with 285 middle-aged women(150 premenopause and 135 postmenopause) and the informations were obtained by questionnaires. The menophania of the premenopause and of the postmenopause women began to 15.6 and 16.6 years old, respectively. And it seemed that the middle-aged women had neutral attitude about menopause-related altitude. There was a positive correlation between the nutrition knowledge and the food habit, but these knowledge and habits had a little correlation with the climacteric symptoms.

  • This study aimed to examine the multiple factors to affect the health conservation in the middle aged women. The subjects were 143 middle aged women from 40 to 59 years old and the data collection period was from June 1 to 25, 2016. The data was analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and stepwise multiple regression. We found a significantly positive association between health conservation and health promotion behaviors among middle-aged women. However, menopausal symptoms and wisdom were not significantly associated with health conservation. Stepwise multiple regression analysis was performed to analyze the most correlation variables were health enhancement behaviors with 12.5% and existence of spouse with 3.2%. This study provides more ensured fundamental data for the health conservation and enhancement in the middle aged women.

  • This study is to identify the relationship between andropause symptoms, resilience, and retirement anxiety in the context of convergence. It is also to identify the factors that affect retirement anxiety by checking these relationships. For data collection, the study surveyed 87 middel-aged men who were residing in S City from July 20 to October 25, 2019. This study found that middle-aged men's anxiety about retirement has a significant influence on andropause syndrome and resilience. In addition, those with andropause syndrome had lower resilience and higher retirement anxiety than those without symptoms. Therefore, it is necessary to consider ways to efficiently overcome retirement anxiety in middle-aged men, reduce andropause symptoms, and enhance resilience.

  • This research was designed to investigate the effects of Estromon including FGF271 (Female Growth Factor 271) which was developed as a phytoestrogen for post- and pre-menopausal syndrome (PMS). The oral administration of two capsules of Estromon twice a day for 3 months significantly improved PMS (Post-/Premenopausal Syndrome) about 5 times more than placebo group (OR=5.04, 95% C.1. 1.40-18.14). In the group of 24 patients having taken Estromon, the concentration of alkaline phosphatase asn the bone marker decreased by -9.3${\pm}$9.5 IU/L after 3 months with a statistic significance. Since the concentration of osteocalcin as the other bone marker also decreased in more patients in Estromon group than in placebo group, the bone density might be expected to be improved in long-term treatment. Serum human growth hormone level increased in 17 out of 24 patients. Triglycerides decreased by -8.0${\pm}$40 (mg%) after 1 month and by -4.4${\pm}$36 (mg%) after 3 months in Estomon group while triglycerides increased in both cases in placebo group (p.0.01). Therefore, PMS patients might benefit from Estromon as a phytoestrogen supplement without any serious side effects.

  • The present study aimed to evaluate the effect of Dendropanax morbifera (DM) extract on postmenopausal syndrome and to develop DM extract as an alternative for hormonal therapy. The following seven groups of rats; normal control (sham), ovariectomized (OVX) control, Punica granatum (PG)-treated group (770 mg/kg), estradiol treated group (0.5 mg/kg), and three DM-treated groups (200, 500, 1000 mg/kg) were compared. Indicated compounds were administrated once a day for eight weeks. To evaluate the estrogenic effect of DM extract, western blot analysis was performed on the liver tissue to confirm the expression of estrogen receptor ($ER-{\alpha}$, $ER-{\beta}$). Our analysis showed that after DM administration, collagen cross-linked C-telopeptide (CTX) value decreased while $ER-{\alpha}$ protein expression increased in a dose-dependent manner through the MAPK/ERK pathway in OVX rats. These results suggest that Dendropanax morbifera exerts estrogenic effect by inducing estrogen receptor expression and activating MAPK/ERK pathway.

  • In this study, the expression level of estrogen receptor in an ovariectomized rat model was effectively enhanced by MS-10, Cirsium japonicum and Thymus vulgaris extract complex, in a reversible manner. MS-10 plays a positive role in enhancing estrogen activity at low concentrations, leading to improved women's health. In order to determine whether or not MS-10 improves menopausal symptoms clinically, a randomized, double-blinded, and placebo-controlled clinical study was carried out on 62 middle-aged women treated with 500 mg of MS-10 or placebo daily for 12 weeks. Clinical menopausal symptoms were evaluated by Kupperman's index (KI) detecting various menopausal symptoms, including hot flushes, parenthesis, insomnia, nervousness, melancholia, dizziness, fatigue, rheumatic pain, palpitations, formication, and headaches. Total KI score decreased significantly by about 18% upon ingestion of MS-10. Colpoxerosis, a main symptom of menopause, was significantly reduced by about 21% upon ingestion of MS-10 in contrast to placebo. In addition, reduction of insulin-like growth factor-1 with age was improved by over 10% upon ingestion of MS-10, whereas there were no significant difference with placebo. No side effects appeared after treatment with MS-10. Thus, MS-10 can be suggested as a plausible natural substance for improving women's health.
