The purpose of this study is to clarify the historical circumstances under which the Korean Pavilion was established at the 1900 Paris Exposition Universelle, and the construction process and design features of the pavilion building. At that time, even though Korea faced difficulty due to lack of experience in the world exposition and funds, Korea attempted to positively participate in the international cultural event by establishing the Korean Pavilion under an official contract with assistance of the French Government. Moreover, the Pavilion shows significant architectural features which had not been shown until then in terms of the structure and design of the pavilion building. In this connection, in this thesis, among others, the historical circumstances under which the "Korean Pavilion" was established at the 1900 Paris Exposition Universelle, and the construction process as well as the process and features of the draft design prepared at an early stage by Baron Delort de Gleon on the part of France among the above parties to the project for construction of the Korean Pavilion, which have never been addressed in the field of architecture or interior due to lack of existing data, will be clearly studied based on relevant literatures. According to analysis of the study, it reveals that the representation method for the Korean tradition of Korean Pavilion designed by Baron Delort de Gleon was based on the Chinoiserie, the style widely seen in Europe. In addition, Delort de Glean's commerce-oriented concept is integrated into the design of the Korean Pavilion as well.
The purpose of this study is to propose evaluation factors for elementary school facility in terms of educational adequacy. The focal point of this study is to clarify the proper measure of educational facility evaluation in the light of specific characteristics of facility. In order to improve the level of educational adequacy, more information is needed regarding school facility design and various factors which affect to the design. This is important works because such information is essential in implementing facility design to meet the needs of the new educational policy. To get the goal, first, it is attempted to analyse the meaning of design information which deeply affect on the school facility design. The design information is classified into three main aspects, such as human aspect, social aspect and physical aspect. The design information regarding the physical space verses human psychology and behavior belongs to category of human aspect. Pedagogic ideology which varies depend upon the time and regions is classified into the category of social aspect. The Physical aspect means efficient equipment performance of space to support educational activities effectively. Secondly, as for the educational adequacy evaluation concern, it is attempted to select more items which usually has been neglected by the existing evaluation criteria which mainly emphasized functional performances only. With the premise of the above, in this paper, it is attempted to propose proper evaluation factors in terms of educational adequacy for school facilities. As the research methods, researching of literature on this subject, field trip, interview, site analysis, and survey is used.
After the concept of apartments was introduced in 1960s in Korea, on account of the development of architectural technology and science, high-rise residences in Korea are getting higher, and these residences have been becoming high-rise commercial/residential buildings since 1990. Nowadays, as the construction of high-rise commercial residential building complex is booming, the difference between these complex and high-rise apartments is getting smaller, and these two kind of high-rise residences are becoming new residential style in Korea. And these high-rise residences are considered the symbol of wealth owing to the marketing strategy emphasizing high quality, refined interior, a fair view, and the protection of privacy. However, high-rise residences bring about many problems related to health and psychology caused by the consumption of a large amount of energy, pollutant emission, the deterioration of the quality of indoor air, and vibration. For this reason, in this study, we tried to emphasize the necessity of environment-friendly access to provide healthy living environment and to reduce the negative effect of housing life in high-rise residences, and find the method to improve environment-friendly quality and health of residents in interior space. Therefore, this study aims to detect the problems and the items to be improved of interior spaces of high-rise residences by quantitative, qualitative analysis of the evaluation elements and the floor planning elements deduced from environment-friendly architectural certification in Korea and the other countries, and suggest the guideline to improve the environment-friendly quality of these interior spaces.
The objective of this research is not only making the planning guides regarding a small-scale residential remodeling but also examining closely the social roles of the interior design for the poor and the underprivileged class by analyzing the residential remodeling cases. The scope of research includes 40 remodeling houses free of charge which are broadcasted in the TV program 'Love House'. Taking in consideration the characteristics of users like parentless or single-parent families and families with disabled persons, this study uses the spatial approach, user's convenience approach and psychological problem solving approach, in terms of the methodology. In result of the analysis of their interior design, first of all, it is essential solving the problem of limited house space by comparison with the family number. Second, the universal design concept for the family with disabled persons(72.5%), old persons or children is strengthened guaranteeing privacy in small and old interior space. Third, the interior design is focused in increasing communication among family members, because mental and physical obstacle would obstruct accessibility among them. This research shows the importance of the interior design which makes wide social roles contributing to create "welfare society".
Commercial space, the types of which have been increasingly various and changing rapidly, has been generating new marketing concepts for space. Especially as the environmentally friendly lifestyle spreads around, the component of natural landscape such as plant, stone, or water has been used as an important part in space design, freshly imprinting the brand image beyond the idea of simple interior property. By combining commercial space design with 'the component of the natural landscape', we can improve the brand image, create the newness in the space, lead customers to stay longer in the space, and reinforce the decorative effect. The parts of the commercial space to which we can apply the element of natural landscape are facades, walls, floors, and show windows. Various examples of real application are found according to the areas of business and goods displayed. This thesis attempts to maximize the effect of commercial space by examining and analyzing various instances of space and provide the ways of applying the space that contains an aesthetic value. For the research, 60 articles, theses, reports that have the keyword related to interior landscape and marketing strategy in commercial space were used as references. From the references, 70 cases were selected and analyzed to find landscape application patterns. Also, 4 store cases that landscape application have been the key to their success were selected for the survey. In doing this, I presented the readers with the packaging technique which improves brand image, the effect of stage direction which helps sensitive communication with users, the application as interior structure and the effect of an object that is useful to aesthetic effect in the commercial space. Finally, I endeavored to provide possible problems to be produced when applying the natural element in the commercial space and matters to be attended to in the management.
Lately, in public libraries, there are various service programs for child user by corresponding to importance of reading based education and also a variety of changes by accommodating family based cultural life style. Therefore there is a need for space planning based study on unit-data room. This study gives guide-line of space planning through categorizing of space plot and furniture lay-out in child data room. The researcher, as a first step, searched web sites of 29 data rooms of 26 libraries and summarized space plots and features of data rooms through in-person visits. Then the author made a categorization standard and did a general analysis of featured data rooms through multiple categorization steps. There are Basic Type, General Type, Book-Shelf Centered Type, Book-shelf Scattered type and Multi-Functional Type out of this categorization steps. In sum, six categorizing bases, dividing infant room from child room, space zonning, position of entrance, compactness of reading space, position of book-shelf and orientation of book-shelf will be important design standards for child data-room of future libraries and an effective guide-lines for other unit data-rooms.
This study aims to find out the characteristics and the type classification of contemporary public libraries in terms of browsing circuit. In so doing, it is to analyze 21 recently built libraries by using the browsing circuit, the spatial depth and the spatial layout. The study makes use of codes derived from the concept of 'Classification' and 'Frame' suggested by a pedagogist, Basil Bernstein. As a result, it shows that two codes are phased in overseas cases. In other words, one type is a lower depth of space and a high rate of rings with the multi-layer circuits and the three-dimensional circuit of multi-centered. the other type is the higher depth of space and a low rate of rings with the single-layer circuit and the multi-layer circuit of single-centered. In domestic cases, 4 types are shown. The characteristics of layout are seen as a radial shape and the rate of rings is lower than the overseas cases. It can be said that these results are a transitional phenomenon. For browsing circuit, domestic public libraries would be adapted to the three-dimensional circuit of multi-centered, a lower depth of space and a high rate of rings. By instructions of this plan, the real meaning of a public library will be come true.
This study investigated composition elements and estimation of image in lobby from user viewpoint that is the central space of local cultural institution, and spectator mainly utilizes. Progress process of study develops investigation device including literature investigation, professional panel and lobby space image measurement tool through on-the-spot probe and, executed supporting research to spectator. As the result of the study, first, lobby space image exerts absolute effect to local cultural institution image-building, and is grasped on constituent that floor, ceiling, entrance and lighting and decoration is important in image-building of lobby space. Second, the image of the important lobby space was grasped in order of convenient image(M = 3.98) bright image(M = 3.87), and cozy image(M = 3.80). Third, the results on investigating semantic structure of the lobby image, emotional factor, styling factor, spatial factor, and peculiar factor are composed of important factors that decides image of lobby space. Fourth, as the result of image analysis for lobby space, the degree of satisfaction for the local cultural institution was entirely low against the importance. In particular, the image for convenience, individuality, locality and dignity was not sufficient in all the three places. Therefore, lobby design of local cultural institution shall also suggest more various lobby space image from culture oriented viewpoint.
The purpose of this study is to examine how the floor heating system is affecting to users in childeren's libraries. This study included the method that extracts the affordance of the floor heating system, after surveyed using behavior in children's libraries and referred to J. J. Gibson's affordance and surface concepts. As the positive affordance, it was grasped that the floor heating system promotes social relationships and affords various surfaces for library using, but also as the negative affordance, that hinders users in the public usings and the behaviors for reference and using. The behaviors of these various characters can be regarded as life behaviors resulted from the sitting life style and the natural using behavior can give to children emotional rest and autonomous reading experience. For the function as the children's library, the learning of sociality in the public building and the various reading space, the space planning of children's library should be done after the positive and negative affordances extracted from this study are reflected. The guidelines for space planning are summarized as the followings: the layout of book furniture, the shoe chest and the space around that, the furniture hight and children's eye level, and the practical using of the table for sitting life style.
The purpose of this study is to find out how the otherness philosophy reveals itself in the principle of F.O.A construction space creation. The traditional philosophy of totality is self-centered and thoughts are based on the subject. It couldn't escape from the world associated with the self, and has subordinated the other to the main body. But the philosophy of otherness transcends the subject, to the open, creative way of thinking which acknowledges deconstruction, decentralization, and non-hierarchy. This is very similar to contemporary architecture, which pursuits change, and also to the current state of society. In construction by the construction group F.O.A, which is doing notable activity this generation, there is an attempt to transcend the fixed subject which is seen in the otherness discussion, and realize recategorization by overcoming the boundaries of subject and object. First, by the realization of landscape architecture using a topographical folding technique, boundaries of the subject and object are demolished in the relationship of the landscape construction, and recategorization. Second, by breaking up the meaning of the surface which is a visual and physical boundary for both the internal and external, recategorization is being done. Third, by making the boundary between the interior and exterior indistinct, cognitive threshold is dissolved, and the relationship between the subject and object is being recategorization. In conclusion, we can see that the many recategorization phenomenons that are happening in the F.O.A construction show the otherness that escapes from the conventional and stationary relationship, and recognizes each other at the same time, forming new relationships.
The purpose of this study was to analyze the preference of living room furniture and to suggest Korean brand furniture design guideline. Subjects consisted of 171 residents aged up 20 years old in Seoul and Kyung-ki. area. The data were analyzed using the SPSS statistical package. The results of descriptive statistics, factor analysis, t-test and $x^2$-test are presented. The result of this study showed as fallows; 1) Livingroom funiture design with considering family life behavior were needed. 2) Modernizing traditional elements(motives and pattern) were preferred to duplicating traditional elements. 3) In furniture materials, easy to maintaining and cleaning and environmentally-sound materials as solid wood were highly appraised. Also, functional and harmonious furniture design with interior or other furniture were needed. So, modular-system furniture for livingroom would fulfill user's needs which are function, harmony and conciseness. 4) Elegant, easy, unique, functional, and simple design for livingroom were highly appraised. Considering these results, it is necessary to develop more on the modernized traditional furniture based on the various needs of users. These results provide a practical guideline for the development of the Korean brand design for livingroom furniture design.

According to tone, two groups preferred pale, bright and vivid tone. 2) In interior color perference, most of the youth preferred GY and Y, and the elderly preferred PB and YR. According to tone, two groups preferred pale tone. Compared with general color perference and interior color perference, the youth had the similarity in preference profile, but the elderly didn', there was the outstanding difference in the perference of B, PB, P and RP. 3) In the preference of interior scheme, two groups preferred GY-analogous harmony1, G-analogous harmony1 and RP-analogous harmony1. According to age, the youth preferred Y-analogous harmony2 and PB-analogous harmony1, and the elderly preferred YR-analogous harmony1 and RP-complementary harmony1. On the whole, two groups more preferred analogous harmony than complementary harmony, and preferred type1(tone difference is slight). But there was the significant difference in analogous harmony of cool color.
As Korea has undergone rapid modernization, urbanization and industrialization, women's social participation has increased. Accordingly, child care facilities have shown continuous growth in numbers. However, according to research, child care facilities in Korea lag behind those in other nations in terms of quality. Given that, it seem urgent to enhance the quality of child care facilities and improve their indoor environment. Above all, overall atmosphere, colors and finishing materials are connected directly with educational effects as well as feelings and health of facility users. This study assesses the current state of child care facilities and preferences by focusing primarily on interior atmosphere, materials and colors. For This Study, 7 facilities were surveyed, and 46 subjects were participated for this study. The findings suggest that "pretty" style is preferred to "natural" style. As regards flooring material, wood floor is preferred. It is recommended to lay pastel colored carpet or PVC flooring material to the wood floor. As for wall, it is desirable to divide the wall spaces by adding wood and painting to simple wallpapers. In case of the ceiling noise absorptive material is recommended to use instead of wallpapers. For the doors, it is desirable to use contrasting materials and colors given accessibility for children. In the meantime, rather than strong primary colors, soft color or pastel colors are desirable for furniture. This study has limitations because of insufficiency of case study samples. However, it is significant in that the study results may be used as primary source of information to improve the environment of child care facilities.
This study is about the Characteristic of glass outer skin expressions in space designs of contemporary society, due to the rapid development of information and digital technology. These days, the glass outer skin show the various images and space expressions which symbolize the informations and the society. The contemporary space designers focus on the glass as the structure materials, and purposely use the glass to achieve the structure concept which satisfies the needs of contemporary society. Therefore, it is a valuable work to analyze the meaning of glass, which has been used for the structure. Throughout the work which has been experienced by glass outer skin, theoretical studies have been achieved and recently the 14 examples were chosen as the glass structures based on the experimental research and frequency featured in magazines after year 2000, which we have analyzed in detail. Glass outer skin reflect the phrases of time in modern society, and throughout the meaning of it, we could see that the glass outer skin serve the roles in informations, interface, imaginary modernization, and as a landmark position. Therefore, in this study, we can make a definition of glass outer skin expression based on the situations of modem times by analyzing the symbolic meaning of glass outer skin in contemporary space designs.
This research is on a seating posture happening at a chair in a cinema and looked into various changes in a posture through the analysis of bodily movement in a established space like a cinema. Through the behavioral analysis of a seating posture in a limited space, each behavioral characteristic shown by a male and female and interdependent relations with a limited space were grasped. The conclusion through the above research work was as follows: 1) This research suggested a frame of analysis by dividing a seating posture into the side and upper part and was able to analyze its subsequent change characteristic of a seating posture by a male and female. 2) As for the side posture, a male was found to change fewer postures than a female, but as for the upper posture, there appeared a high frequency in posture change in case of a female. 3) As for time of staying in the side posture, a female was found to keep up a specific posture, and relatively a male changes his postures frequently while appreciating a movie; likely, as for the upper posture, it was found out that there existed a difference between the preference for the upper posture and time to keep it up. 4) A male and female were establishing a comfortable environment through their change in a posture, and there appeared changes in a posture the most within every 10 minutes in both the side and upper part postures. 5) As for the correlation between a initial posture and keep-up posture, it was found that a male tend to pursue a comfortable posture as time goes by, while a female kept up a comfortable one from her initial seating posture.
Modern architecture's optical mechanism focused on Ocuularcentrism neglects the tactility of vision and tends to eliminate the optical and tactile dualism of traditional spaces by representing spaces and surfaces that are abstract and cold-hearted. In other words, all sensory experiences, except for visual experiences, are eliminated to make it impossible to create the substantial core of architecture that combines time, image, and surface textures. The fast-changing social trends, the emergence of new materials and technologies, and the corresponding development of various types of media since the Industrial Revolution have changed the paradigm of human perception and representation. With the development of media, other sensory experiences besides visual experience have been stressed and human perception has converted from single perspective to complex perspective. In result, new sensory items, such as visual tactility, have replaced the traditional vision-centered hierarchy. The composition of architectural surfaces has represented the functional and commercial needs of technology, structure, as well as the socio-cultural needs of the community. In contemporary times, it is being changed and developed by the new tactility and the corresponding expression of modern architecture. Based on the visual representation of tactility of architectural surface, this study used a composition of surface that combines various events, meanings, and senses to examine how architecture can mediate and reproduce viewers' visual experiences and discover the existential relationship between architecture and men.
The following research focuses on the formation method of digital space by organistic line extension among various digital formation methods. The paper reflects on the meaning and concept of today's digitalism which enables the application of complex organistic system on space through advanced technology. It also explores the concept of a line in topology which differs in assumptive meaning from traditional Euclidian geometry. The findings of the research are that first, digital space is not optimized, but is a tentative formation in process. A digital space encompasses characteristics such as infinity, possibility, potential, asymmetry, and the force of virtuality such characteristics are expressed through a moving surface constantly changing with direction. Second, a digital space formed by line extension is inseparable and durable since no measurement or dimension is predetermined. Furthermore, its sense of direction and flexibility gives it a feeling of a living organism. Third, a Euclidian methodology called 'NURBS' is being developed to express such a dynamic digital space; this is reflected through three elements, control point, weights, and knots to effectively reflect the characteristics of virtuality. The opportunities of digital space are infinite, and the possibilities of formation methods likewise vast.
Through staggering advancements of technology and network as we know them as digital revolution, we have established a foundation of space in which we can express reality by eliminating the boundaries between expression, space, and movement. There are many ongoing approaches that aim to overcome the physically-fixed property of space where the mathematical-geometric notion of Voronoi Diagram is one of them. Although the repetitive increment based on self-organization during the process in which space is generated by the Voronoi Diagram forms a pattern and focuses on the formation, its pattern is not restricted to a single method of expression but evolves over self-control. The result of having analyzed spaces generated by the Voronoi Diagram in this study can be summarized as follows. First, the Voronoi computation method with self-organization property creates multiple levels, increments, and evolves through feedbacks among changes with the slightest order and in the absence of control. Secondly, after forming a pattern through such feedbacks comes the differentiation phase due to the presence of different properties. Thirdly, a space that has gone through the generation process retransforms through active interaction between changes and it obtains ambiguous boundaries and a repetitive pattern. This leads to an evolution of space through repetitive increments based on self-organization. Such flexible space creation is supported by various digital technologies where we believe a converging application of these studies, sciences, engineering concepts, and space design is and effective and new method in terms of space creation.
