There is an agreement that sociocultural forces affect on the types of arts. There have been a little attempts to draw analogy between architecture and music. There are many objective and subjective factors for this to be true. If, however, the two arts are out of much the same social conditions, they show a degree of conformity in design and general organization. Our study shows the interrelationship between the Residential Space and structure of music. In order to clarify the interrelationship between architecture and music, the study examines ten Residential Spaces suggested by Yi-Jinkyung. The Residential Spaces are analyzed by using theory of Space Syntax. The structure of music is analyzed by tonality, counterpoint and harmony. The comparison between the Residential Spaces and music follows : From Renaissance to the 19th century, they have the same tendency to 1) openness & closure to the outer space and 2) the netting diagram in the inner space & Counterpoint 3) the tree diagram in the space & Harmony
This study analyzed the characteristics of spatial expression in the Barcelona Pavilion to be based on tectonics. Mies pointed out the image of materiality about the material rather than the process of tectonics using the material, and he also expressed demateriality in the image of each material through the reflection. To be liberated from structural matters, the wall has been introduced. He intended to show the design plan as the independent structural system, however, the wall actually seems to be supporting the roof that shows rather clearly self-contradictory because of the expression of materiality in the material. In terms of architectural elements; wall, roof, column, floor, and so forth, tectonic expression and abstract aesthetics stands face to face, because of hiding the productional process and transforming to line and surface in the image of materiality. The interior of the glass wall seems fairly closed space from the exterior, because materiality and reflection of materials of columns and podium. The character of experiential space is inconsistent and fragmentary because of the splendid images from maternality and reflection on the wall, and collision with the reality and the image the wall reflects, even though the geometrical space of the Pavilion's plan has the mutual penetrability and organic character.
The qualify of preschool education is related to the qualify of the physical environment, This research is aiming to develop and validate the set of scales for the measurement of physical quality of the interior spaces in child care facilities. The research has been in three major phases: (1)the development of indicative sub-scales for the description, measurement and evaluation of the physical designed quality of early childhood environments (2)two rounds of iterative phases of reliability and validity testing of the scales through expert panels and observational field-testing and (3)implications for future research to be done. 13 sub-scales were developed, which are based on Moore's 15 design principal for child care environments. And each sub-scale includes several evaluation items based upon developmental theory, existing empirical literature, and Korean, Australian and American child care standards. This set of scales will (1)aid research on the effects of environmental variables on quality of child care facilities for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers; (2)permit evaluation of such environments to identify areas of needed improvement; and (3)provide information for policy makers, parents, administrators, and designers/architects.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the chronological characteristics of the strategy for the house marketing in terms of the apartment lots for sale advertisements appeared to be from 1970's to 1990's in Busan·Kyungnam area. For the analysis of the newspaper advertisement, a new residence environmental indication is introduced to this research as referring to the existing research data. With this indication, therefore, this study is to examine what contents of the advertisements are. Moreover, as analyzing how frequently the advertisements have been inserted in the newspaper, it shows the characteristics which the construction industry has planned for sale of apartment in lots. The results are as follows; First, the frequency of the appearance in the newspaper about each unit and block in an apartment complex has been on the decrease. On the other hand, the importance about the surrounding area has been on the increase during the period. It shows that consumer require more about the surrounding area issues than each unit itself. Second, in the case of the outdoor space in the apartment complex, the frequency of the appearance in the newspaper has been kept a certain levels during the period. It is clear that the consumers have been concerned about the outdoor space throughout the period. Third, the most important issue is the qualify of site location, such as the benefits of the traffic, the levels of the education environment, the natural environment of the apartment complex and so forth. The frequency of the appearance in the newspaper has been kept increasing since 1970's in the advertisement. It clearly shows that this issue has been standardized for purchasing a house.
The development of data communication and network technology has brought a change to various communications through the internet. The internet data center is now on a large scale in its structure and facility, suitable for the internet environment that is under development in various dimensions, and effective for task support, stable facility, capable of space expansion and flexibility, and easiness in ease of maintenance and management, etc. The monitoring center of the data center which is one of the core facilities in the center, special space elements and functions as well as a function of task space are to be put into consideration additionally. This study was to present a proposal for the space elements and environmental design of a monitoring center, which could create an efficient and comfortable room.
The purpose of this study was to identify the preference of interior design, design style and color, according to consumers' life style. Data were collected from March 7th. 2002. to March 22nd. 2002 using the questionnaire. The subjects were 228 adults and frequency, percentage, mean, cross tab, F-test, factor analysis, and cluster analysis were used for data analysis. The major results of this study were: 1) The types of life style were 3: regular family oriented type, progressive fashionable type, and conservative self-manageable type. 2) This study revealed relative difference in design style and color preference according to consumers' life style. Therefore, the type of life style could be used as powerful variable in interior design and marketing of allied industries.

Holography provides a medium for creative visual experiences in space and scale. It has been firmly established as a tool for scientific and engineering studies. It could be creatively used in interior architecture and display as a practical device and as a form of art. Basic principles and features of holography are explained. Design of the holographic systems are illustrated in some interior architectural applications. It is believed that holographic elements can make a valuable contribution to interior architecture design by controlling light and creating new concepts of colour and space.
This paper describes the experiments to examine the sense of continuity produced by lighting between physically separated spaces. Tolerable limits of illuminance were measured for providing a sense of continuity between two rooms connected by a window. In the experiments the illuminance and color of lighting of the subjects room were changed while those of the other room were kept constant. The results show that the observers could certainly determine the range of optimum illuminance for them to recognize continuity, and the variance of the results between observers is very small. Moreover, the tolerable range of illuminance was almost constant as far as the color difference was less than some critical value. This finding would be helpful in designing a lighting system for providing a sense of continuity.
