The purpose of this study is to identify the cognition differences of home interior remodeling and preference of mass media among consumers and analyze relationship between remodeling perception and mass communication. The data are collected through questionnaire surveys, which included demographic information and preference of remodeling, mass communication from adult consumers who live in Seoul. 223 samples are collected, and are analyzed by using SPSS-WIN program. The major results are as follows: Most of the media are preferences above the average. TV media is a leading mass communication, which has an effect of most consumers. Internet business preference is found at young, male, white color business group and small family. Remodeling has been a strange word with consumers, but now on its needs are spread among the public that is provide to solve the problem which were found in their home on the influence of mass communication.

Amongst them, medial spatial characteristics will be eventually remarkable in commercial space which is coincided with economic logic and multilateral culture. This study is a focus on commercial space which emphasis contemporary medial characteristics and observes medial meaning and various technique through some experimental works in Korea. Also this study's purpose is to examine design directions which correspond with contemporary Korea culture.
This study aims at the spatial analysis in semiotic architecture focusing on the early works of M. Graves and P. Eisenman, the representative architects of semiotic architecture. This study on the semiotics of architectural space can be started with literaeur's approaches which recognizes it as the language. Thus, to applicate semiotics in architectural space means a methodology reaching for essential architecture. The conclusions of the study as per the above mentioned aims and intentions are as follows: The viewpoint of spatial analysis in M. Graves's semiotic architecture is defined the semantic metaphorical space of denotative context : That of P. Eisenman's described the synthetic deep of connotative self-restraint.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the types and meanings of the motives shown in the traditional houses. Research methods to achieve this purpose are review of literature, field survey, and contents analysis. Traditional houses were divided into 3 parts such as architectural elements, interior elements and decoration elements, and total of 163 motives were collected out of it. As a result, it was founded that roof of the architectural element, and doors and windows of the interior elements are shown the most of the motives. Motives were divided into two types, realistic motives and imaginative motives, and both types are shown evenly. Meanings of the motives are classified into 'protection', 'good-luck', 'long-life', 'ideology', and 'decoration', and the motives of meaning of good-luck showed the most variety.
Mario Botta is one of the modern architects who established his own architectural world on the basis of the architectural spirit of Modernism. His works have been a good theme not only for those who study architecture but also for those who study the relationship between architecture and the surrounding environment and there have been many published papers and reports on his works. However, most of them stressed on the importance of the external appearance of architecture or on the relationship between architecture and the surrounding environment. There have been relatively few studies that have dealt intensively with interior space. The aim of this study is to find the characteristics of interior space in public buildings that were designed by Botta and to analyze them from the view design principles and design elements. For this purpose, the five most important public buildings were selected and the public space of the building like the central hall, the lobby, and the foyer were analyzed. Through this study, the followings are realized. A) Spatial features: $\circled1$ Refined and graceful interiors where the principle of symmetry was applied, $\circled2$ Centripetal interiors surrounded by thick walls, $\circled3$ Interior design lit by skylights above the central area, B) Formative features: $\circled1$ The shapes of the external and internal spaces are identical, $\circled2$ Simple geometrical shapes were applied in defining the shapes of internal spaces, $\circled3$ Skylights and light wells were combined and were utilized as form elements, $\circled4$ Architectural vocabularies of Corbusier such as stairs, round pillars, and bridges were developed and utilized, $\circled5$ Utilized the geometry that resembled his architecture as a form element to the furniture, C) material pattern features: $\circled1$ Plainly expressed the patterns of bricks that appear in the course of construction, $\circled2$ Made and used horizontal stripe patterns using stones of different colors.

Nevertheless, the design competitions introduced for th first time in 1980s have played significant roles in developing the fresh ideas and concepts in housing design. It is important to review the ideas played proposed in competitions until now in order to spread them into other housing developments. In this context, this study classified the types of unit plan and analyzed their design characteristics in the proposals of housing design competitions in 1990s.

The office environment in the industrial society was for the massive processing of documents related to business under the guidance and vigil of a supervisor. however, accuracy and swiftness in processing documents were also emphasized when the concept of office landscaping and office automation were introduced in the middle of the 20th Century. The information society, that started in the late 20th Century, will be continuously developed in the 21st Century. In order to improve work efficiency in the information society, the office environment should be able to effectively use information and communication technologies and to efficiently manage networked organizations. This study suggests that the office environment in the information society should have connectivity, security, flexibility, mobility, and adaptability as its essential characteristics.
This study is to plan the interior spaces of cruise ships for domestic services. In order to give directions for planning of interior spaces, a survey was done through questionnaire by Koreans who have experience of travelling on cruise ships. Based on the survey results and other important situations around domestic cruising industry we set up the critical conditions for the interior space design for domestic service cruise ships. And then the data on the cruise ships which have similar conditions with the domestic service cruise ships are analysed. Types and sizes of interior spaces and horizontal and vertical composition of private and public spaces are main concerns in this study.
During last 4 decades of industrial development, apartment has been rapidly disseminated throughout the nation. Its main progress, however, only appeared in quantity, not in quality. To promote housing industry in more way and to enhance peoples' life quality through the better housing environment, housing plan should be based on living items including furniture, appliances and etc. Not enough research has been done to find out living items for better house plan development and furniture design. Among living items, furniture reflects both directly and indirectly people's lifestyle and way of living. This study attempted to find out the pattern of furniture possession which people own in their bedrooms. An in depth questionnaire survey of 600 households was carried during the year 2000. A variety of patterns were found which indicated diverse living conditions within a very similar uniform multifamily apartment complex. The result of this study will be helpful to understand the living conditions in a more systematic way and to generate new concept for both residential unit plan and furniture design.
The purpose of this study is to develop recommendation of sign system and color codes in making the public interior environment more accessible for the visually impaired persons. The appropriate guidelines in designing the sign system and the color codes in the public interior environment can increase the accessibility, the mobility and the safety for the visually impaired persons including the increasing elderly. By selecting the effective sign system much more desirable results can be brought: Improvement of accessibility, mobility, increase of safety, work efficiency and the psychological stability. Sign system and the color is more important for the weak-sighted people than the normal-sighted in way finding and the orientation strategies. 53 visually impaired persons participated for this study, the answers of the questionaires by the weak-sighted persons are focused on in this research. The data, the needs of users is analysed on the basis of users-oriented. The result of this study can be considered as a basic direction of sign system design and color codes in our codes in our public environment for all people especially visually impaired persons.

Decision of designers and architectures, as a result, is really crucial tot he environment issues. Above all, selecting the most environment-friendly material and design among possible candidates is natural and cost saving way. In the paper, couple of Evaluation Criterium for Material Selection are analyzed and objective linkage has been identified. With the result of analysis, methodology to minimize damage on environment during whole life cycle of the Interior Design has been sought for.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of physical environments change on children. Specifically, this study investigated the effects of a newly designed elementary school environment to implement open education on elementary school students. The changed environment was improved in various aspects including architectural type, the number of space types, layout, shape of the building, and color planning. This study showed evidence of interaction between aspects of the physical environment and the actual behaviors of children. The impacts of change in physical environment, more specifically, on children was confirmed by the study. Therefore, this study can be used as a basis to insist why physical educational environment needs improvement, to insist importance of physical educational environment and to justify importance of physical environment in educational setting.

However, if we use computers for visual presenting in the class, it will not be enough to catch the e-revolution. That is, we should work with computers in the creative and conceptual design such as the using of the design information and the applying digital techniques in the early stage of the work. The purpose of this study is to show how to work with computers in the spacial design process especially th using of the DIS(Design Information System) and the applying digital techniques in the early stage of the work.
The perceptual presentation of interior design is to represent an interior space planned by a designer as if people see it in reality. The perceptual presentation methods that have developed are perspectives, full-scale models, small-scale models, photography of models, video taping of models, computer images, computer animation, and virtual reality. The purpose of this study is to investigate limits of those perceptual presentation methods according to their characteristics. The methods have characteristics that are either static or dynamic and either monoscopic or stereoscopic. In terms of representing interior spaces and perceiving interior spaces, the dynamic characteristic is more helpful than the static characteristic because the dynamic characteristic provides consecutively changing views of interior spaces when people walk around within the spaces. The stereoscopic characteristic is more helpful than the monoscopic characteristic because the stereoscopic characteristic provides the binocular depth perception. Full-scale models, small-scale models, virtual reality that have dynamic and stereoscopic characteristics, are most effective. The next effective methods are video taping of models and computer animation that have dynamic and monoscopic characteristics. The last effective methods are perspectives and photography of models that have static and monoscopic characteristics. But the most effective methods can not be said that those are perfect because each of them still has limits. Designers have to consider the limits of each perceptual presentation method to find a way that shows their designs most effectively. To develop the perceptual presentation methods of interior design, researchers should focus on the helpful characteristics that are dynamic and stereoscopic.
